    Over the last few months, we've been slowly picking away at the RattleVan...
    We picked up this 1979 Chevrolet P30 StepVan out of Ohio.
    It ran, but it needed a lot of work.
    But now, all the work is (mostly) done!
    Time to bring it HOME!
    So, Matt spent a couple weeks hammering out all the necessary repairs to make it reliable and roadworthy!

    i own the same truck (1979 14 footer)! Loving this. They're known to be loud, try kilmat all over the inside of the doghouse. It'll cut down on noise AND heat. I put a double layer on mine because i had it. It's a lot heavier now, but man oh man what a difference. You won't regret it

      Thanks we will try it! That haul back home was brutal after about 2 hrs at 55mph. You could’ve cooked eggs on that doghouse lol

      @@RattleCanCustoms mine has the same speed / rpm ratio issue. I’m gonna swap out the transmission for a 4l80E which is an upgraded th400 but with overdrive for highway driving. Only issue is will need to get a shift controller from us shift or other supplier.

      @@BobVan is the 4l80 the same length or will you need to mod your driveshaft?

    • @BobVan
      @BobVan 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@RattleCanCustoms might possibly need to adjust the length of the driveshaft. There’s several tailpieces the 4l80e uses. The donor I found has the old slip yoke w/driveshaft so I’m gonna modify it. The us shift quick 2 kit with the carburetor attachment is the way to go. You may be able to use your 3 speed shifter and just adjust it to not use D1 gear. I’m gonna have to buy a 4 speed automatic shifter because my Stepvan is a manual transmission.

      @@RattleCanCustoms on my 4l80e, from bell housing face to end of the output spline that sticks out is roughly 32.5 ” on mine. I have a th400 sitting next to it and its roughly 34.5” for length comparison so you may need a longer driveshaft…

    Amazed you could find new door handles. If they still work you could re chrome them and save them if you ever need replacements again.

      The old handles were in pretty bad shape, but they did work. Might just do that
