    Hallo Julian. I picked up a new iRig Pre 2 and the connectivity method has changed to a permanent TRRS cable. I did a few simple checks and it performed direct monitoring just sitting on the table doing nothing. Maybe with a TRRS to TRS adapter it will now go into your camera. Good luck!

    Thanks for yet another thorough review of very low-cost audio gear. These products must be putting significant competitive pressure on more expensive equipment. „Now for fun part, the measurements. “ Indeed, haha.
    As regards SQ and noise floors, for many users, good enough is indeed good enough (within reason).

    Another fantastic review with lots of useful details Julian! I was also hoping to use the live monitoring to feed into another device ... what about if you connect the pre hd micro USB with a USB powerbank, would live monitoring work?
    Also do you know if this pre hd can do loopback audio, ie passing audio output from a phone/computer back to phone/computer for recording?

    The non-HD version of the iRig Pre has a 3.5 mm out instead of usb, maybe that would work with your DSLR.

    Hello Julian, a great review once more but also a tip. Have you tried an OTG cable between the iRig and your camera? An OTG cable it the same as used for example to connect USB drive to a phone or a keyboard to a phone. Not sure it will work but you could also check the wiring of the cable and check out where it goes wrong.

    • @JulianKrause
      @JulianKrause  5 лет назад

      I don't think that it will work. The USB from the iRig is a data connection and needs to be connected to USB from either a PC or a Smartphone. Also, I don't think that a camera would record audio via its USB connector. But interesting idea, thanks for sharing!

    • @johannesmartinus5837
      @johannesmartinus5837 5 лет назад

      @@JulianKrause With an OTG cable there is one pin connected to ground with a small resistor forcing the hardware connected to it function differently. On your camera, can an external microphone be connected over the USB port or is it only a port to read the memory card content, that is the question? If it ONLY reads the memory content then it will not accept any other input else then directly to the memory card and also this would never work. But, if it does accept a USB microphone, it does accept an input source and then you might check if there is a 5-volt available feeding the iRig.
      This is almost the same story with the SJCAM SJ8 Pro. It does accept an external electric microphone but only their own one. The pin connections are not standard so a custom cable has to be made.

    • @johannesmartinus5837
      @johannesmartinus5837 5 лет назад

      @@JulianKrause And I also would suggest you do a test where your cellphone is used as a temporary interface where the iRig is connected with your phone and the earpiece output connected with the camera audio input if my previous answer does give any solution.

      @@JulianKrause I just checked the ports on the Canon EOS 6D and it is a USB data port and it has an HDMI mini output, Video output (PAL/ NTSC), External microphone (Stereo mini jack).
      So I think you can connect an external microphone over the Stereo mini jack and try that over the monitor stereo jack output from the IRig HD. I know this is not what you wanted since it will generate noise because that is surely present. But since you need then a 5-volt power supply too, using a smartphone will be easier when on the road since that will be with you anyway.

      @@johannesmartinus5837 Thanks for all the info! I sadly don't own the iRig pre anymore. So, I currently can't do any tests.

    Hello and congratulations, Can it be good to connect a shure sm58 to an android smartphone (no apple) to sing with smule type app? I have the doubt as there are conflicting opinions, there are those who say that with Android it does not work (I have a Galaxy S9 *). One last thing, does real-time monitoring always work properly with Android? There are no latencies with the base coming from the Smartphone? I ask you why with another device (
    TC HELICON GO Solo), I had this problem.

    What about headphones and impedances?

    • @nomadharpist
      @nomadharpist Год назад

      Same question. I realized how the headphones output impedance of an interface really affect my choice if headphones to be used with it. For example, my Audient iD14 mkii has about 20ohm and make the Neumann NDH 20/30 shine while they sounds really poor on devices with low output impedance. I am afraid they will sound poor on the iRig Pre HD as well

    • @JulianKrause

      The gain is very clean. I would say you don't need an external preamp. But you can connect one via XLR if you want.

    Hi, Julian. I have a question regarding the input noise. I have an audio interface with measured EIN: -119.5 dB (IHF-A)
    at 43 dB, 150 Ω input (data provided on its manual book). Theoretically, wich one produces higher hiss noise, iRig Pre HD that you tested or my audio interface? I hope you answer this. Thanks.

    • @JulianKrause
      @JulianKrause  5 лет назад +1

      Hey, the lower the EIN, the lower the noise. This means that the iRig Pre HD has about 6dB less noise than your audio interface.

      @mhmnmhmn4213 5 лет назад

      @@JulianKrause thanks Julian. I asked you because I am confused with the term like dB(A) and dBu. I thought they are different. I fortunately watch your videos, enjoy them and learn many things. It's nice to be answered. Thanks.

    • @JulianKrause
      @JulianKrause  5 лет назад

      @@mhmnmhmn4213 Hey, dB and dBu are in fact different, but I assume the manufacturer of your interface meant to state the EIN in dBu, because it is almost always stated in dBu. Cheers!
