so glad you got these early. been waiting. thanks for posting so quickly.... i keep debating on this vs metcon for hiit but i think this is a better one. like the current ones
I have NIKE Free Run 2018 and those shoes have the same issue of rubber sole splitting. You can also check those and compare with these as both have similar price.
I ordered both. I can say I much prefer the 5 over the 6. The 5 seems more focused towards lifting while the 6 is more all around. And the 5 fits my narrow feet a lot better. The 6 is too wide for me even in the mid and rear foot.
@@MichaelThomasDev classic Nike, sadly. Innovate then it just ends up polarizing folks or losing what was great originally Core metcon line has seen the same thing happen
Jake, you have never led me astray . . . your video reviews are excellent. THE only problem is you are good dude and really do not have anything bad to say about any shoe . . . you could sell sand in the desert 🤣 After watching your reviews and knowing what I am after, I ended up buying Metcon 8 for CF isolated lift days and WODs with rope climbs. Fantastic for these specific purposes. Overall, not too frequent; the Metcon 8's get used about 1 day per week. Like most everyone else, on those days when there is a lot of running, I have dedicated running shoes. Again, those days are relatively infrequent in CF programming. I was still after a more 'do it all shoe' for the majority of days at the CF box. For this I got a bit frivolous and bought some Haze Trainers and Inov8 260 V2s. Not sure which of the two I enjoy more, as BOTH are AMAZING 'everyday' shoes in the CF box. If I had to pick only one shoe to wear every day for every CF purpose, I think I would go with the Inov8 260 V2s. Comment should be over at this point. Anyone looking for ONE shoe to do 'almost anything' CF has offer, it is the Haze Trainer or Inov8 260 V2. . . but, because I am a shoe horror, I have this persistent notion in my mind there is something between the Metcon 8 and Haze Trainer/Inov8 260 V2 for which I am in pursuit. I got the Reign 6 thinking it would fit the 'niche.' Honestly, another amazing shoe that I find falls on the end of the spectrum with the Haze Trainer/Inov8 260 V2. So, did not really fill the gap. I just have another great 'do it all' CF shoe . . . did I say I am a shoe horror? 🤣 I know this is a long comment that finally comes with a question . . . knowing what I am after, do you think the Metcon Free 5 (not 6) or Metcon Turbo 2 is going to fill that 'niche' I am exploring? I appreciate your enduring the agony of a shoe horror with a first-world 'problem.'
Haha, every shoe has its perks/drawbacks depending on the context! That's how I look at it - I view it similarly to my training ideology. There are no outright "bad" shoes or exercises per se, just contexts where they make more or less sense. Too many reviewers overlook that concept, imo, and they blanket their personal biases to use black and white language. Appreciate you sharing all of that! I'd go Free Metcon 5 before Turbo 2. The Turbo 2 is a bit too niche for what you're looking for, imo!
Dude, you should make a "Training-CrossFit Shoes Tier List"* Should be good content. No one in RUclips can do it besides you and Joel. *Available in 2024.
That boot reminds me of the 4 which was a pain to get into. The 5 solved that for me. Disappointed that they reverted back to the 4's boot construction with little stretch. Hopefully it's not as small as the 4.
Here is my quick review Metcon Free 5 versus 6 (got them yesterday ) -MF6 feels way lighter, but also feels really cheap in hand versus MF5 -The MF6 Boot makes it hard/a pain to put the shoes on / Take out -MF6 have a softer plushy midsole, the MF5 is way firmer. -MF6 is surprisingly stable while weight lifting. Despite the sole being softer, it seems stable sidewise. -MF6 having less midsole foam exposure could be good. Never have any problem with MF5, even working out on paved road etc. Bottom line : MF6 seems more comfy to walk, but MF5 is a way better fitness Gym shoes. The MF6 feels like KSwiss type shoes, and feels cheap. For me it MF6 are a huge downgrade to MF5
Love it The flatter sole and surface are give it that stable feeling. Those are pretty much my exact thoughts as well that I discuss in my full review, but I do enjoy this shoe’s og FXM vibes I feel like it’s the upper that gives it the cheap feel. Chainlink mesh always feels better quality than this type of textile, I feel Keep an eye on your forefoot durability that’s what I’m mostly concerned about Thanks for sharing, homie
They are and not at all - IMO, these fit pretty dang unisex (why else would they provide both sizes, you know?) and are plenty wide for my feet. IMO, the 7/1 "men's release" is likely colorway related and not sizing
Hi! Do you think the metcon 6 is safe for HIIT workouts? (And the ocassional badminton sesh). I used to wear running shoes for my workouts, and rolled my ankle pretty badly.. not safe 😂
For HIIT, yes. For badminton...you'll have to test and see! I'm not going to say for sure they'd work. They'll def be more stable than your running shoes, though!

@@thatfitfriend Honestly I felt like the 5 was a good upgrade from the 4 design-wise but yeah new versions can always be hit or miss unfortunately. I'm still trying to get my hands on the 5s but man they're hard to come by.

I have both the Metcon 5 are much better than the 6. The metcon 5s fit better and look better. Mid sole looks better on the 6. But other than that the 5s are better less clunky and bulky. I am sending my 6s back
I've used them for 2-miles so far and they were comfy enough. Squatting wide, they're a little softer than the 4s so should work fine up to 3 wheels etc. Thank you so much!
Weird that in my country ( The Netherlands ) you can order them for women, but not for men... Now I bought the Reebok Nano X4, mostly foot HIIT workouts / crosstraining.
Think they’re unisex sized! Peep how they feature mens/womens. The “men’s” releases on 7/1 but my hunch is that’s just colorways. These fit my EE width feeet fine so idt they’re gender specific lasts in this iteration
Depends on the brand - these are technically a women's colorway, but they size unisex, I believe. Shouldn't matter for this model. Sometimes sizing can differ, but more and more, I'm seeing companies use unisex sizing on their training shoes - and I think that likely has to do with cutting down on costs/resources
Wow... that splitting is really disheartening. I was excited about these, but not sure. I'll await the full review. 😁
