One tip that I learned from Thiago Alves that completely changed my kick for the better was to make sure my knee is past the target when the shin lands. The power difference with it is incredible.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. It seems every video this month has addressed the specific issues I've been experiencing. Incorrectly snapping my kick is something I am guilty of, and your breakdown helped.

The tip on having the knees drive forward then rotate hips at the last second is gonna be a game changer vs. swinging the leg around

I started training a few weeks ago. Hurt my ankles pretty bad by connecting with the wrong part of the leg. I trained karate as a kid and as far as I (and my body) remember we kicked more with ankle and foot rather than shin. It doesn't work well in Muay Thai 😬 Thanks for the explanation, now I know where the problems is and can fix it 👍

Great tips, Kevin. I especially appreciate the explanation of distance. If you can touch your opponent with the lead hand, you can land the roundhouse. Great breakdowns. 👊🏿 🥊

Perfect explanation thank you. The problem I still have is i rely heavily on the bag i hit to keep my composure, as soon as i mis the target i loose my composure and i become the bag during sparing XD Can you demonstrate how to recover from a kick when you hit nothing but air. Thank you

I would add more kicks in shadow boxing because the balance, the stamina, body positioning, ligaments are very different when you don't have the bag to catch you and you develop the wrong expectation that your kick will land on a human body the same way when hitting bag. Plus most people got tired way faster when shadow boxing too when try throwing shot with power. Feigning and chambering kick in shadow boxing helps too for more control deep, stable muscle.

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert, I just watch YT Martial Arts/Combat Sports videos.
I think Mistake 3 is not so much a mistake but rather a technique used by Karate particularly Kyokushin where you would Kick with the Ball of the foot which doesn't need as much Power. This technique is quick and snappy because you don't need to worry about turning your hip back after Kicking.
You could theoretically use this kick to test the waters before going for the Full Power Thai Kick.

as tkd practitioner, your drawback about snapping looks more like your tkd school had an issue with holding the rechamber too long
