    I am a 57-year-old adult with social anxiety, panic disorder, diabetes, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and I’m a cancer survivor. DAS help me to enjoy the park and being on a limited income, spending more money on Genie plus is ridiculous. I have always been able to use the DAS system but this morning, I was outright denied the woman I was speaking to tried to tell me that I could leave the line if I was having an anxiety issue and was crying, and then I could go back whenever I wanted to. No. That is not happening after you’ve been embarrassed. The last thing you wanna do is go back in that line. Have been an annual passholder for years and will not be renewing next year. This is disgusting, and because people were abusing the system, we all now have to suffer.

      TY for sharing & sorry to hear of your recent experience trying to renew the DAS pass. We’ll be taking my 9yr old (has *autoimmune* T1d since 2016, anxiety AND adjustment disorder dx’d 2024) and 5yr old to Disneyland & CA Adventure Park for the *1st* time this weekend. We’re gonna try to speak with Disney guest services in-person this Thursday to see how it goes, but aren’t gonna pay extra $$ for the Genie+ pass. I emailed and they took >1 week to give me a generic reply regurgitating what I’ve already carefully read on their website (all good points addressed in this video). Hoping for the best!
      ⚠️Disney parks really needs to update their DAS policy to be more inclusive to all people of any age with any type of chronic medical condition and/or disabilities protected by Section 504 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). They also need to properly train their “cast” members so they’re more of aware of *mental health* disorders and other “invisible” medical conditions like autoimmune diseases (>80 different types including Type 1 diabetes, Rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, Hashimoto’s, Celiac, etc).
      We truly hope those who have cheated the system to get a DAS pass and have abused this *reasonable accommodation* for those with any kind of disability will soon realize their actions have consequences and affects us all. #antiableism #antidiscrimination #AANHPI #disneylandparks

    My husband and I met a former cast member on our trip last year who told us that she uses the DAS pass because it's easy and you don't have to prove anything. She took us to guest services and added us to her pass for the avatar ride that she was using for her mother and a friend. We walked right on the ride with a 120 minute wait. After the ride she disclosed her hustle. We were shocked and disgusted because we never knew about the DAS pass before meeting her at the park. I think the change is needed for those with true disabilities that benefit from the DAS pass. Keep making great content! Your hair cut is SUPER CUTE!

      Seriously!!!! I hope with this new DAS she gets caught and banned from Disney!!!! I wouldn't ba as mad if she wasn't a former cast member! She's gone through training as a cast member about how to help guests with disabilities and how important accommodations are for them. Yet she chooses to abuse the system cause it's easy, yeah no sympathy!!!

      @battlegroundbiscuits  2 месяца назад +3

      That is crazy! I wonder why she was a FORMER cast member. That is really disheartening to hear but sadly its not the only story I've heard like this. This is why we can't have nice things! It only takes a few people to abuse and exploit a system to ruin it for those that truly need it. Thank you for sharing your story! And thank you for the compliments! You're too sweet! I remember your handle from another comment you left before....love it!

    Mom of a severely autistic child here. I will gladly provide any documentation in order to continue receiving this service. We would never be able to do Disney without it.
    I have also been told numerous times by family members, friends, etc that they abuse the system for a DAS pass. I used to be too nervous to say anything but now I just tell them “people like you are the reason my child won’t be able to go to Disney one day”

    • @amberolson6583
      @amberolson6583 2 месяца назад +2

      I have a child with autism and medical conditions that are severe. And I always carry my son proof of disabilities especially if I'm requesting the accommodation. Without them my son would have seizures elope and become highly aggressive to those around him. So I don't worry about the changes. My friend tried to get it as she needs wheelchair to get around and they made her stand in normal line when able (accessable) or move her to handicap entrance where she waited her full wait time. She was not happy and thought she could DAS but was denied. We had no issues when universal switched.

      Its a sad shame that those select few have the opportunity to ruin it for thousands of families and still continue to do so (and then brag about it). I know my husband would love to hand over his papers vs trying to advocate for himself among a sea of frauds. He would happily suffer in silence or do without something rather than ask for special accommodations, like so many others who TRULY need this service. I sincerely hope the best for you and your child and that you'll be able to visit the parks for years to come. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

    With my MS, the DAS allows me to go longer in the parks during the day. I love that I can just chill in a nice cool place and wait for my time to ride. One thing Disney never seems to consider is the actual line cue. Try putting some seating along the cue and cooling fans, if they are going to deny me a pass, then at least help me manage the line better.

    ive had complex regional pain syndrome for 10 years and have never used the das pass. i don’t think i need it because my problem is walking and standing for a long time, but i learned to work around it. i don’t care if i have to sit on the floor in a line as long as those who genuinely need the pass get to go through, even if i also have a disability. in life you have to work around ur own problems without taking away from others 🙏

      I have problems standing as well, but have been able to use the DAS. I have no issues walking, but standing for an extended time is nearly crippling. If lines are shorter, we'll of course wait, or I just won't go. We'll see how it goes for me the next time I go.

    I wish Disney would just accept doctors notes. That would make it so much easier. People who actually need the DAS pass would qualify. Not every disability is visible! & that would also fix the issue of people faking & abusing the system! People who don’t want to share their disability can do an interview if they’re sensitive to people knowing their diagnosis.

    In September 2022, we were planning our trip to Disneyland. My hubby had Stage IV Colon Cancer, and we had a note and records from our oncologist and set up our video call with Disneyland DAS. After the interview, the young lady denied us the DAS Pass. You never know how long you have left; we thought we had more time and could try again later. My daughter and I went without my hubby in September 2022, and he passed in January 2023. Every time the photo memories come up, it hurts he wasn't there! PLEASE @DISNEYPARKS please hire or train DAS interviewers. My husband looked great; he was funny and interactive during that video appointment. STAGE IV cancer means the cancer has metastasized to other organs. He COULD NOT STAND or WALK distances. My hubby sitting in a chair is NOT a good representation of his physical issues.

      My heart is shattered for you...I'm so sorry for the disappointment and pain you still feel from this. You have every reason to feel the way you do about this process and I wish, with everything, that your experience had been different for your family. This is exactly why there needs to be a better process in place and each situation needs to be treated individually instead of lumping a diagnosis into a certain category. Everyone needs to be educated and empathetic to all that register. Applicants need to understand WHO this pass is intended for. Whatever that means for Disney and their guests we will graciously comply for the greater improvement of the program. Thank you so much for sharing this with us as difficult as I'm sure it is. I hope the improved process serves your husband justice and you're able to find the magic at the parks again. Wishing you the most happy and magical memories to fill your heart!

    I’m really sad to say that the new process is not working. Myself, a blind person with optic nerve hypoplasia, my blind best friend with Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome which has resulted in numerous surgeries, causing severe fatigue, lack of oxygen uptake and many other severe symptoms that make standing in line nearly impossible for her, her blind husband, their 5 year old son, and a friend who is a C5-C6 quadreplegic were all denied DAS. We spoke to two medical professionals, the cast member, and the coordinator and despite the number of ways we explained the challenge of long lines with severe hear sensitivity and lack of ability to control body temperature, inability to stand in line due to fatigue, bottomed out blood pressure, and side effects from a severe chemo drug, and not to mention the challenges of navigating the osrk with only one sighted adult who has to take very frequent air conditioned stops to avoid over heating, no one cared. We had to cancel our trip and were then given a hard time about getting a refund. We are crushed.

      I just returned from a trip to Disney with my wife who is visually impaired. We had a similar apathy assault from the Disney employees. It also crushed us. Medical professionals are NOT disability or accessibility professionals. Some medical doctors (though not all) can diagnose visual impairment, but they may know nothing about the social model of disability or what disability needs are required by specific individuals. I am a disability researcher, and this system reminds me of an approach from the 20th century. We were shocked when we encountered this approach. We were regularly insulted and disturbed during our time at the parks. I had young ride operators telling my wife and I how we should approach visual impairment. Really, Disney?

    I would have to agree! I know that we would be willing to provide any documentation needed to get our DAS Pass. It makes Disney doable for us. I will say that it is sad that it has to come to that though. I would never have even considered using it if it weren’t for my daughter’s and my husband’s diagnoses.

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  2 месяца назад

      Absolutely! We are on the same page as usual :) I never even considered it until I started visiting the parks with Tim and learned about what DAS was for. Even then he tried everything he could to avoid asking for it. I think part of the anxiety he had was that the cast members might judge him or that they wouldn't believe him. He is already insecure about the diagnosis and then to verbalize it to someone he doesn't know and to be vulnerable asking for help was a HUGE hurdle that he would rather avoid if he could. I will say for Tim it would be easier to hand over some papers that a professional has signed stating what his issues are rather than trying to convince someone himself. And part of why the cast members have to be SO selective is because of those people that are dishonest (and really good at being so). I don't envy the position those cast members are in...i'll say that!

    So I would love to hear your thoughts on my situation.
    I was told in an email to Disney that I no longer qualify for DAS. I was told I could leave the line and rejoin my party or buy genie plus.
    I have a rare genetic disorder that affects every organ in my body. I have a permanent central IV line that I need to administer lifesaving medication through. I also need my partner’s assistance during medical episodes. I do not have the ability to leave line by myself when I am in the middle of a medical episode. I also cannot use Genie plus because I cannot guarantee that I will be well enough to do a ride in the hour return time frame they provide. Taking away my DAS access makes it almost impossible to visit the park for the price of a ticket. I already could only do 2-3 attractions per day MAX with the DAS. Now I’ll be lucky to be able to ride one attraction (and many of the low-wait time attractions are not an option to be due to the spinning nature of the rides).
    I am probably one of the people that disney and park goers think is faking. I look “normal”. I speak “normally”. But I am FAR from able bodied. Let me reiterate that Disney explicitly told me that because I don’t have autism I no longer qualify. I will be a physician assistant by the time my next trip comes. I have done disability advocacy work for years. I know the history of ADA law well. Disney trying to make non-autistic disabled people pay to play is disgraceful.

    Thanks for sharing this! We have used DAS twice with my autistic son and it really makes Disney an accessible trip for our family. I also know people that very openly have been getting DAS passes when they actually don’t need them (by their own admission 😑) and it really enrages me as someone whose family depends on it to be able to have this experience. They just know what to say to the cast member to get it approved. The extra step of documentation (like Universals system) prevents this. We used universals pass in January and the process is easy, but I do wish you could get in a queue using the app like Disney. We will happily provide documentation to Disney on a future trip for this accommodation!

    What Disney should do is follow the law or the American Disability’s Act that says if you are declared Disabled by medical personnel and the the government it is against the law to deny disability services to those people , now if Disney does not follow the ADA law they are opening themselves up to a massive lawsuit , now I can say I have only used the das pass one time the last time we went but it’s because I was declared Disabled from injuries that over the years has taken 19 surgeries to keep me going and I can’t walk or stand for long periods of time and my wife has osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis both and she also can’t stand or walk long periods of time , we have both been declared disabled and we are both in our sixty’s and we love Disney but if they won’t help us with the das pass then we have no choice but to stop going because it’s impossible for us both to stand in those lines , we have no problem getting our wait time and returning but it’s not right that they have the power to say your not disabled when we are

      I believe wholeheartedly, based on what you shared, that you are disabled and that you deserve fair treatment for those disabilities. Believe me. However, the problem I see is that disabilities come in all shapes and sizes...and therefore cannot be treated equally. To follow the ADA law Disney has to provide access to ALL people with disabilities. That includes the ability to access the attractions. Ride cars have been modified for wheelchairs, ramps have been built into queues and walkways, ECV parking is available at shows, etc. The DAS pass is not for ALL disabilities. Disney has the right to determine what disabilities qualify for this particular access and its accommodations. The challenge the cast members are seeing is making that determination based on how truthful guests are. Without professional documentation all the cast member has to go off of is their word. I wouldn't want to be in that position any more than a guest with a developmental impairment wants to be in the position to convince that cast member that they need the pass. It is very much a tricky situation. We will be watching for updates as these changes are rolled out. Thank you for sharing your experience and opinions! I hope that you are able to find a way to keep visiting the magic!

      No way. Many things that are disabilities are NOT reasons to skip a line at a park. Many people are fine in wheel chairs and those can go through the line without a DAS. I know of extreemly overweight people who got them because they are notcomfortable walking, standing in line- got a wheel chair or electric scooter and were automatically issued DAS when in a scooter. In other places, like mentioned : Universal is more strict than the current Disney rules. They are not saying people are not disabled, just that many physical disabilities are fine to go through in wheel chairs meaning the regular lines ARE disabled friendly for many. I mean there was a buisiness where people with legit DAS issues would join a family and go to Disney with them and get them on the DAS pass and be paid.

    How many miles does one have to walk during a visit to Disneyworld? 3, 4, 5, 6 miles? All while surrounded by and bumping into people.
    I have arthritis in my knee and standing in place becomes painful, but not much more painful than walking 5 miles.
    My wife has stage 4 colon cancer and only a third of her colon. She can generally figure out when she can and can't stand in a line.
    For the life of me, i can't figure out these adults with debilitating anxiety who would ever entertain the idea of going to the most crowded place on earth.
    DAS should be for children that have not matured enough to maintain themselves.

    I did the Universal IBCCES card and DAS last month for my upcoming trip to Orlando this Thursday. As someone who doesn't enjoy talking my illnesses I was very hesitant to do it. I've never heard of either pass before but as it's my first time to both parks I looked into it. Talking to strangers about my illnesses is rough for me. You cannot tell I'm sick and I still get the she doesn't look sick comments all the time. I've been yelled at for parking in handicap spaces. I know they can't tell I've been sick for 23 year's but it still brings tears to my eye's being yelled at. I spoke to both of my doctor's and though they thought it was odd that I needed paperwork they were looking out for my health and gave me what I needed. I uploaded the paperwork for the IBCCES card and was approved within 48 hours. No call or video chat. It's good for a year. With DAS I could feel the anxiety rising I was very nervous but the cast member that helped me was very nice and I was approved. So now I can enjoy my time at both park's even though I know I'll get weird looks from people. I'll come back after my trip and update how the IBCCES pass works out. I'm super excited.

    I honestly think the DAS pass are being more used due to the amount of people just learning about it and how that might make their trip better due to a disability affect them in the park. Heck I just learn about the system this year despite going to the theme parks in CA for years (I have many disabilies). Is there a few people who abuse it? yes 100%. Honestly think they just need to ask you a few questions (similar to service dogs) and those questions could be: Do you have a disability?, what could be some of the accommodations you need?, Do you understand wait in lines for more than 20 mins?, Could you wait in line for more than 20 mins? ect. No documents, no telling what your disability is, just questions. and that should be only ask to the person with the disability unless they are unable due to being non-vocal.

    The disability pass at Universal Orlando is ridiculous. We did not renew our passes due to the hoops we had to jump through every time we went to the parks. We have an autistic child in a stroller and needed a stroller pass. We would stand in line in the summer sun for a stroller as a wheelchair pass and by the time we got it the child was severely upset and we’d leave and go home. I’m hoping that Disney doesn’t do the same. Up until now, WDW DAS has been a blessing.

    I've never done the DAS pass - I have issues with my feet that prevent standing for long periods (and as such use a mobility scooter to and from the hotel as well as in the parks). If they want me to wait on the scooter, I will do that, as I have done for the past several years in DCA. Where the issue in CA arises is that much of Disneyland does NOT have mobility equipment friendly queues. We buy Genie+ on every park visit. We are not trying to skate out of waiting or any such thing - we just cannot stand for extended periods. I actually like Genie* because of lightning lane and the included photo pass. So, if we are not "disabled enough" for DAS, this is going to throw a major wrench in our enjoyment of Disneyland. Very scary times, as we travel to Disneyland at least 3x yearly.

Everyone has been so friendly.m When I first heard this I worried but then I took a breath and Im not going to worry unless they tell me we can't use it. I think it will be interesting to see how it works with the new people who will be doing the interview. When we do our interview we always have our letters from the doctor and ask if they want it. I am not in the Military. Thank you so much for your family's service and sacrifice defending the US.
    My worry in the wording isn't 'Autism,' its 'developmental disabilities'
    I have a psychiatric service dog. She is trained to do pressure therapy to prevent dissociative episodes that can last days. People have used specific disability wording to try to shut us out of public access. The most major incident of this was at the Majestic Theatre. A manager told us New York law only allows 'medical alert dogs.' We were let in because He 'didn't want to ruin our night.' We got lucky the guy decided to be 'nice.' There's a reason I have to keep the ADA service dog policy open on my phone.
    I honestly believe he was just confused about what the ADA says. It happens a lot, with varying degrees of maliciousness.
    With that experience in mind: they are permanently banning anyone they find to make untruthful statements about their disability.
    That scares me. I've been accused of faking. I follow a few creators whose disabilities are more visible than mine, who have also been accused of faking. Which rangers from glares and getting harassed to literal death threats.
    I'd rather give a doctor's note to a 3rd party than have to do a video call with a cast member. Buuut: every clinic I've asked about doing this for housing has said no, citing liability issues. (My area is not dog friendly.)
    I could probably still do the rider switch program and be okay. I absolutely couldn't handle certain lines, so DAS would be a good idea for me. If this policy extends to all disabilities however...yea. There's a lot of potential for discrimination and errors in the policy.
    I'm highly pessimistic about cooperations too; would not surprise me if this was Disney trying to force more people to use Genie+. That's an opinion, however. Not a proven fact. Yet.
    Quick positive story, cuz I like leaving things on a good note. Same trip in NYC, I had the honor of visiting the 9-11 Museum and Memorial. First of all, that place is impactful and incredible. Second, the staff and volunteers there were some of the most understanding and kind people I've encountered. Esp in regards to my service dog. They made sure to welcome us, tell us about the on site working dog, and multiple people told us there was a temporary exhibit about the dogs of 9-11 that I had no idea was there at that time. (Imma hide now. Sorry for the text wall.)

      Spent 4 HOURS waiting to do the new DAS ENROLLMENT…. 4 hours! I’m really sure now that we shouldn’t continue with the annual pass. On so many levels Disney has went down, including their costumer service. The prices are more than outrageous and now with the DAS situation, which I do have medical documentation for, it’s having to relive serious injury every 120 days. I will not ever understand why they just didn’t do it like Universal Studios? I give props to Universal Studios for having established a platform, which was ingenious! The process is terrible and the lack of transparency of the conditions that qualify are even worse, as there’s no guidelines where at least our medical providers can provide documentation for. I spoke to my provider and they were clueless, as they could only provide documentation such as FMLA paperwork and a letter of permanent disability. I’m not sure I want to be put through this process every 120 days. Plus the prices are becoming ridiculous and unaffordable. My DAS got denied as they stated it was o lay for developmental disability. But complex PTSD AND military sexual trauma are not even closely considered. This is concerning. Not ADA compliant for sure.

    I like your logical, well-thought-out explanation of the changes. I suffered from the worst anxiety when I was a teenager and just out of high school, but I still dealt with the lines. This was prior to smart phones existing (5 years prior) and I dealt with it, I would pass time in line talking to my friends, and not once did I think "I have a 'disability I shouldn't have to wait in line'. As I got older I started eating healthier, exercising daily and in general not worrying about what others thought of me. I now have the mildest of anxiety and it's baffling to me how people aren't even willing to give these things a try...especially now that social media exists, and people are addicted to this 'outrage culture' non-sense. If you have anxiety and you sit at home all day, eat like shit, and are constantly stupid Social Media sites like Tik Tok and Twitter....guess what? You likely are contributing to your own anxiety. So stop eating greasy terrible food, stop drinking sugary beverages, take a whopping hour out of your day to go for a walk at the very least, and stay off of social media! You'll realize that you're anxiety will significantly go down if not completely go away, and you will be a much happier person in general. Oh ya, also make REAL friends in REAL LIFE, not "friends" that you met on the internet, those aren't friends. Friends are people that you know actively, or at the very least have known in real life (maybe they moved), not random people you met in your "safe space" (stupid meaningless word for weak people).

    My family of 4 will be traveling with 2 extra people this time, my 82 yr old dad and my daughter's fiance. I am concerned about the DAS only qualifying for 4 people. I do not think it is reasonable to separate a party of 6 and make some of them miss out on the experience of doing the ride as a family at the same time (even if not riding in the same vehicle -like Pooh for example). This would create a logistical planning nightmare if 4 can ride a ride but two must wait in the standard line finishing much later. It seems like this is an attempt to force at least some of your party to purchase Genie Plus. It will be interesting to see how this works. Also, I have never been to Universal, but recently completed their third party system in preparation for our next visit. I had to provide paperwork about my son's diagnosis and once qualified it allows a party of 6 that accompanies him to ride together with the card.

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  2 месяца назад

      Without knowing what your disability is I wouldn't assume you'll be denied just yet. We are all still waiting for the details around these changes. I don't think Disney (arguably one of the most inclusive companies in the country) is setting out to exclude people. The ADA law is to protect disability rights of QUALIFIED individuals. If you qualify then you have nothing to worry about. As a company providing a service to the public, they have to provide access to the theme parks...which they do with handicap parking, transportation, ramps, and wheelchairs, etc. The DAS pass program is an accommodation, again, for qualified individuals. Nobody is entitled to this...its something that Disney has extended to those who NEED it to make their visit as enjoyable as those who don't need it. As far as genie+ goes, whether its worth it is subjective to each guest. Disney isn't telling you to get it or not to get it. Each guest has to decide for themselves but its not Disney's responsibility to provide customized options for each of us based on where we live or how busy our schedules are. Again, if someone qualifies then they have nothing to worry about. But with the current program anyone can walk up to a cast member and say they have a disability. If the cast member can't ask questions they would be forced to believe you based on what? THATS the problem. Too many people are being dishonest to get a "free" pass that they don't truly need which makes it more difficult for those that DO need one to obtain one, lawfully, from a cast member. Respectfully, something has to change for everyone involved or the program will continue to fail.

    From speaking with guest services cast members at WDW not much is changing they are just taking the responsibility of dealing with DAS and moving it to a third party that has more training in these kinds of issues, yes pure mobility related issues will probably not qualify for DAS now because almost all ride queues are accessible in standby line. As a person whose spouse suffers from an issue covered by DAS I appreciate that they are trying to make it more fair the purpose of DAS is to come up with an accommodation to help solve your disability issue to the best of their ability. I do agree if you broke your leg and you’re just in a wheelchair you don’t really need to have DAS, that’s why they focused in on the autism and other mental disorders because that was more of the goal of DAS in the first place. Also I want to remind people not all disabilities are outwardly visible just because someone doesn’t look “disabled” doesn’t mean they don’t have a legitimate disability

    I agree 100% with you about not comparing one disability to another. Your comment about being able to wait in the regular line if in a wheelchair is not really the case. My use of a scooter due to mobility issues (doctor diagnosed), is not practical in the kind of line Disney uses. The outside straight queue is fine, but once inside the sharp turns and narrow spaces does not allow for scooters. I'm not sure of the technical term, but the back and forth weaving barriers in use is not negotiable on a scooter. I made the mistake of attempting this on a ride and wound up stuck and holding up the line trying to do a 3 point turn. From that point on I used the handicapped entrance. Unless they widen the lanes and make the turns bigger and less sharp, wheelchairs and scooters have no business being in the regular lines.

      I’m with you on this but, in my case, my power wheelchair uses quadruple the power if I have to stop and start repeatedly with every guest moving up in line. I would be out of battery by the time I got to the front of a standard queue. I don’t mind waiting my turn but I can’t do it in the regular line; I’m good with a “come back at X time” to reflect the time it would have taken to get through the queue.

In my explanation I was more or less trying to compare the reasons for needing different types of accommodations. I don't think the DAS pass was ever intended to be used for guests in wheel chairs because they have a broken leg for example BUT, after reading your comment, I can see where there would be a need for a different kind of pass or return time solution if you can't maneuver through the queue. Have you ever just asked the cast member at the entrance if you could enter another way on rides where the queue is tight? Im just curious. Because if they would allow that then I could see where that would be considered the accommodation instead of offering a DAS pass. Thank you for sharing your opinions here :)

      My mom was in a wheelchair last time we went to Disneyland due to spinal surgery and couldn’t walk for more than a few steps. About a third of the lines weren’t wheelchair accessible. The cast members won’t allow you to even enter the lines with stairs or sharp turns if you’re in a wheelchair. So the only way to bring a wheelchair in the line is going through the exit using a DAS pass. Genie Plus doesn’t solve this issue either…

    I don’t understand why Disney doesn’t just require people to show a disabled parking placard IDENTIFICATION CARD to get a DAS Pass. It would prove the person has a proven disability or mobility problem since each state requires a doctors note to be given one and it has the persons name and birthdate so people couldn’t swipe their grandmothers. I’m not taking about the placard, I’m talking about the ID card that comes with the placard you can show as proof that the placard belongs to you if an official asks for it.

  • @somebodynoticed

    Usage of the DAS increased partially because, some of us who qualify for it, never had to use it previously because we could schedule Fast Passes 60 days in advance. This made it unnecessary for me to use any special disability services which I would otherwise need. I’ll be at Shades of Green soon but I have no intention of going into any of the Disney Parks because of the inability to schedule Fast Passes / Lightning Lanes in advance. Even with all the nickel diming Disney is doing now, the inability to schedule rides far in advance of the trip is the main reason I can’t go back. It’s a very long, physically painful, flight for me to get to Disney World so, without any relative guarantee that I will get to go on the rides I desire, I can’t risk the expense and the pain to go there again. I don’t like using disability services if I can help it and, preCovid, prescheduling my Fast Passes put me on a level playing field with non disabled people.

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  2 месяца назад

      I could see how the removal of the Fast Pass might impact the amount of DAS pass users in that way if they never used DAS before. I know many people that would much rather use the same system as everyone else rather than ask for special accommodations. However, now that I have experienced using both, I can say that I have never missed out on a ride because it wasn't scheduled in advance. I understand your concern about logistics and the risk but with a DAS pass you're able to use it in combination with the Genie+ if you wish. It almost guarantees your ability to get on the rides you want. The only exceptions I can imagine would be on extremely busy days (christmas day or NYE for example) OR rides that use virtual queues that you need to reserve at certain times. But even for VQ rides you can choose to purchase an Individual lightning lane instead for that particular ride which does give you that guarantee in most cases. I have no intention to persuade you one way or another and I do empathize with your situation. But I sincerely hope you're able to find a solution that works best for you to visit the parks again! For what its worth, my husband is like you and avoids using any special accommodations when he can. But when he was able to experience the parks with a DAS pass it changed everything for him, which changed everything for us as a family. I hope you enjoy your trip to Shades! • @ariesempresstarotandguidance

    I have physician documented proof of a condition that would quality me for DAS. Disney's screening process didn't ask for medical documentation or anything, so it's small wonder it was being abused by those who may not really need DAS. I would gladly hand over all my information as proof but I think their (former) screening process was not thorough enough. I have always thought that DAS should be limited to those who really need it, and have medical reasons or psychiatric reasons (and documentation to support that), I would also welcome the idea of a third party screening process, it would free Disney up from having to do all that extra work AND it would allow us to share medical information in a way that only one agency would have that and therefore hopefully protect our privacy as far as our personal information goes.

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  2 месяца назад +1

      I also like the idea of a medically educated, unbiased party to make these decisions. It might filter some of the emotions guests have towards Disney right now as well. I would hate to be in either position that determines a family's ability to enjoy their day or the differently abled guest that has to plead their case to be accepted. I know my husband absolutely cringes at the idea of talking to anyone about his condition. I usually have to kind of help him talk through it. Its tough but I try to advocate for him. Many people don't have that or won't even try. The program does need to be reevaluated though because it absolutely gets abused, sadly. Hopefully the new program works out for everyone. Thanks for sharing your input with us!

    Idk if you know this or not but there has always been two types of disability passes. There is DAS which has always been for cognitive disabilities { but they have been letting people in with mobility disabilities} which they really aren't supposed to because they have a separate pass that's a mobility pass. The only difference between the two is DAS is on your phone and the mobility pass is a sheet of paper where you go to an umbrella or exit of a ride to get a return time. It's really not that different or that big of a problem. DAS was built so that people for example with severe autism { heightened senses that make standing in a line with screaming children for longer than 10 min unbearable and they will have a melt down in line} hence why they have the mobility disability pass which is made for all the other disabilities. If anyone were to actually call Disney guest services we wouldn't be having this misunderstanding. Universal is the one who should be unders scrutiny. they now require that you get a doctors letter, which is very hard for someone with a cognitive disability to get approved on their website before you can ever get a disability pass.

    Wish they made it like DLP (Disneyland Paris) where you show proof (ASD diagnosis letter etc) to get either a Priority/East Access card or Pregnancy Wristband where the Priority gives you Priority by putting you in a disability or fast lane queue that takes 5 - 10 minutes and the Easy Access Card and pregnancy waistband a come back time.

    It depends on the documentation they are looking for. I’d rather not pay for an appointment just for DAS if I don’t have any other reason to see my doctor. Also, May 20th is coming up soon and it can be hard to get an appointment by then to have a doctor write a note. If I could just show something from my medical record with my diagnosis, that’s fine bc I already have that.

      I'm not sure how it works for children. My husband uses the current DAS pass but they never need age/address...they simply ask him questions, take his picture and then apply the pass to his MDE account. In your situation, since your child is 2 they don't need a ticket and therefore probably doesn't have their own MDE account so it would probably need to be added to the parents account. They will probably take the childs picture though to associate with the pass.

I now have a knee injury, (Hopefully temporary) But I see a lot of DAS passes. This is fine if they need them, (Not judging) but I have a friend who gets a DAS so she doesn't have to wait with her young grandchildren at the cars ride (and others that have long lines) It's bad enough to be an adult, but to make a 5 year old wait 120 minutes for a 2- or 4-minute ride is ridiculous. I think Disney needs to re-think this Genie plus stuff. I can't think of any families with young kids that can afford being nickled and dimed and having to pay $35 plus per person per day. That's for another blog.

    I agree with you on several points; Disney’s wording about “autism or similar” developmental disabilities is severely misleading and has caused a lot of stress and anxiety in the disabled Disney-going community. I think disclosing a diagnosis would solve a lot of the problems they’re having with overuse of the DAS system. In fact, I think Disney CM who are handling this should have a list of disabilities covered under the ADA and base it on that. However, suggesting that someone who is worried about their trip being ruined, because they don’t know if they’ll be approved for DAS, look into Genie+ also isn’t the answer you think it is. Many disabled people wouldn’t have the extra money to purchase Genie+ every day of their trip and would still have to wait in line, do Rider Swap (again, not a solution for many disabilities), etc. I don’t think we need to completely overreact until we know exactly what Disney will or won’t approve, but people use their life savings just to go to Disney with the assurance of accessibility through the DAS program.

      This is part of the reason we always do the in person registration. It is also much easier to convey when face to face. This really steams my clams! First, Disney shuts off the walkway from SoG to the Poly (? to keep SoG guests from waking through the Polynesian). Secondly, Disney will not allow the SoG buses to go directly to the Magic Kingdom. They require SoG guests to board a bus that goes to the TTC, only to offload and walk a pretty good distance to the Monorail or to the Ferry to get to the Magic Kingdom. That's a lot of stress for families and a lot of wasted time from the parks. And now Disney is messing with the DAS system. In their media releases, Disney is saying the DAS will be very limited and they mention "Developmental Issues" as to what they will authorize for the DAS pass. In my mind, that is in many ways going to exclude our military members--Active duty, retired, and veterans. I served 30 years in the Air Force in Healthcare and I don't recall seeing many active duty personnel with "developmental Issues". I would venture to say there are a lot of disabled veterans who used to get a DAS pass which under the new system will not be allowed to get. Which is sad. And on top of that, I know a lot of prior military who are 100% disabled who simply don't like talking to anyone about their issues--me included.
    I would also venture to say the abuse Disney speaks about is NOT caused by disabled military members. The DAS pass changes seem to be more targeted towards Disney is "losing" money because the DAS recipients do not necessarily buy Genie Plus or Lightning Lane Passes, AND the people getting the DAS passes are taking up space in the Lighting Lane lines and making those people wait a few minutes longer.
    I live close by and have been an Annual Passholder for many, many years, but some of the things Disney is doing has taken the magic out and the fun out of going to the parks. It bothers me to see many of the WDW guests walking around having to look at their phones for Disney information and seeing families arguing about what they can and cannot do.
