You should do a Denis run and see how fast you can beat the game with his team. Then Denis can have his sprite in the tier list forever.
Good idea
I feel we can keep the Bruno tier for the Yellow playthroughs. But for Crystal playthroughs, the Bruno tier should turn into the Pryce tier
The Janine tier
@@dantemalick2872 Ha, that would be another option, I'm not sure how often Scott puts emphasis on how bad Janine is, Squidgy definitely does. The sad thing is Janine has to be that weak, since Koga's team are level 40-44, and he's an elite 4 member, it would not make sense her team being higher than her father's.
Scott is the man. Releases free software AND encourages people to make their own videos with it. Absolute beast.
I really want to see Natu/Xatu at some point. They are one of those gen 2 pokemon that always seems forgotten by time

On the whole "Rock not resisting Rock" thing, have you ever noticed that the physical types don't resist themselves, with the exception of steel and poison, while all the special types do with the exception of dragon?
Also great work Scott as always and Thank you all his supporters.
That is actually a really interesting observation? I guess the special types make a little sense, but why the physical types?
@@projectgarchomp2380 Rocks can break other rocks and often do, fighters fight each other with no loss off effectiveness, animals headbutt and body slam each other all the time, earthquakes break the ground all the time along fault lines, birds like falcons are predators to other birds, ghosts make sense that they'd be super effective against each other, bugs kill each other all the time just like birds.
Now let's look at poison, it makes some sense that poison resists itself since humans can get resistant to poison via mithridatism. Poison resists poison because it's somewhat immune.
Steel makes some sense too, since it's pretty hard to really damage steel even with steel, but it is possible.
It all kinda makes sense, but it's also weird and leads to weird things like having a rock and ground move will give you perfect 1x or better coverage since ground doesn't resist ground and rock doesn't resist rock.
@@ZerglingOne1 oh wait, I read it wrong, I thought it said all but those two resisted eachother, my bad
@Chogathable ghost is also an exception
@@LVazR Ghost is super effective against ghost. It is not resistant.
Wow! It's very nice of you to release your overlay to everybody. Also, Corsola seems like a relatively unique Pokemon for a playthrough. This was a fun one to watch.
Scott giving away possibly thousands of dollars worth of development for free. What a guy
That's super cool that you released your overlay. It's quality work, and really displays the degree to which you're willing to go above and beyond for the community
Thanks Scott!
Incredibly cool of you to release your overlay for free. Truly a gentleman and a scholar
I almost want to say it would be illegal to profit off of software that mods illegal copies of a game.
Agreed
Corsola always felt like a Pokemon that was just "there" - so it was interesting to see your play through with it like this!
It is a defensive Pokémon so it isn't the hype Pokémon. However, it's best stats are worse than the good Pokémon's "meh" stats. The base stat total is awful. I tried using it when I was a wee lad that wanted to learn all there was to know. Corsola isn't fun to use as a defensive Pokémon because it isn't strong enough. I like the typing but that's not enough. Meganium is more fun, as are Forretress and Mantine. Even Miltank does a better job at being a tank despite being a Speed specialist.
It's so unfathomably cool that Scott releases his overlay for free, public use. Just absolutely a king move.
omg thx for sharing your overlay ❤
You're welcome!
Ooh, you're amazing for publicly releasing that overlay! It looks incredible and shows so much information! I'll definitely consider using it if I do something with gen 1 in the future! :D
The way I feel about Corsola depends on the vantage point. If you imagine a rock type gaining the water type, it's generally an improvement. If you imagine a water type gaining the rock type, it's a downgrade.
So Corsola is kind of like when a kid's mom mixes their favorite food with a healthier but disliked food for dinner lol.
As a question, is there any combo that neutralizes the weaknesses of Rock type enough?
@iantaakalla8180 Ya know, I don't think there is a good combination now that you ask. For example, even steel wouldn't cover the water weakness.
But what makes rock truly bad--in a way that, say, ground is not--is that it has no good offensive options. It peaks midgame at Ancientpower, and in this gen you don't get the boost when you one-shot.
So cool you release that overlay to the public. Bet it feels cool to help the community with something you created yourself.
Also, can't wait for gen 8 and Galarian Corsola. :D
I love watching the credits roll and seeing how far into the dex Scott has gotten. I still remember when the original 151 were being collected and now we've blown through 4+ generations and I love it. Keep up the great work Scott!
Nice to see Corsola improve, and have a better time. I can’t wait to see how the lesser known Water Johto mon in Qwilfish improves its standings.
I’m happy that you’re remaking a bunch of your older videos with your new rule set (like 4x speed as opposed to 3x speed) as well as your improved skills. While there might be a certain charm to the older ones, I think it’s best to have newer videos to showcase the Pokémon in a better light. (Also I’m always gonna want to watch more Scott’s Thoughts, even if it’s a Pokémon you’ve done before)
I don’t know what the odds are of you reading this but I just wanted to say thank you so much! First of all for releasing your overlay (even though I personally won’t use it) it amazing you’re willing to just give out something you spent so much time on! But also thank you for all your challenge videos. I use them to fall asleep to because I have really bad insomnia and laying in silence makes it works and I’ve probably watched every solo run and Vs video 3 times by now and yet I never get tired of hearing them. Thank you so much for all you do for this community and for me personally ❤
You're a gem, Scott
All your work so far is truly amazing! I hope this encourages the community as a whole to pursue and support the development of this and similar tools and resources.
You really go above and beyond for your fans and the community in both your videos and the overlays. Thank you, and it is amazing to see how quickly you have become an authority for Gen 1-2.
Thanks once more for the great content, Scott! You've been my favourite pokétuber for quite a while now. All the best! Cheers!
Hey Scott. Just wanted to say I appreciate the slower pace of dialogue since about the new year or so.
Like most I fall asleep to these, and the rapid fire speaking pace doesn't jive well with that.
Kudos man. Love your videos.
This is great! Thank you for releasing the overlay, that is awesome.
God i love getting home from work and seeing a new video from you these are always such a great way too end my day and unwind.😊
That's really nice of you to share the overlay with other creators!
Fun cut idea
When training after you knock out the first mon cut to the last pokemon you knock out and have it level you up
Dude, i have no words to express how incredible you are, the quality of your videos and the love you put in them is amazing, i really love all your videos, I've been watching you for a long time, since before the overlays, and I'm really happy of how much you have grown since then, and i will cut it here because i could be writing about how much i wait for your videos on weekends and how happy i get for random streams and that kind of stuff forever haha
Much love from a great fan :D
Thank you so much for this comment. Not having the greatest morning today, being a bit hard on myself for some mistakes, so reading this was really nice. Thank you again! It makes me really happy that you enjoy my videos.
Those bellsprout were kinda scary haha
Thanks for rerecording the audio, it makes a huge difference
I was shocked in stream when sand attack saved scott never thought id see the day 😂
Good to see Cor getting some love. Great work as always!
Congratulations on the release of the software. You’ve done some awesome work on it, to which you and those who helped you deserve much applause.
And now that I have used applause, you can do it again and again. :D
I love that your releasing your overlay for the public to use for free and are encouraging people to use it in pokemon challenges on their personal channels or computers if they dont make youtube content if they so choose to, without any objections from you. Most likely all you want for them to use it is just for them to give credit to you for making the overlay in the video and their description. I think this will be a great addition to the pokemon challenge community for a very long time. Im sure everyone in the community is grateful and looking forward to the overlays youre creating for other generations as well. If i see someone else using it i promise i wont leave nasty comments or anything like that as you requested. Great job, great vid and see ya next time.
garbo stats but nice move pool. excited to see how this plays out, keep up the fun vids man, you're appreciated.
I'm happy to see more corsola on the channel! It's such a fun pokemon that deserves the love! Hopefully, it gets it's best time yet 😎😎
Slowpoke or Tangela crystal playthrough? I've been binging your videos for days now. Glad I found this channel. I just downloaded an emulator the other week and decided to play pokemon again for the first time since 4th gen. 2nd and 1st gen were always my favorite though since they pretty much made my childhood. Probably why I've become so interested in this channel in particular since most of your videos revolve around those games
From the awkward early videos, to the fantastic quality nowadays, plus a huge positive force in the community, releasing the software for everyone to use. This is just great, thank you very much :)
I dare to say - If you were a Pokémon, this would be your 3rd or 4th evolution stage ^^
Another one with some nice improvements. Neat.
Overlay drop
If Corsola started with Rock Throw it would pop off hard
Indeed!
Glad to hear the overlay is now available to more players to get started on their own challenges for gen 1. I might give it a go sometime in the near future. Thank you to the Patrons for helping Scott not only develop the software but also giving the means for him to continue doing this as his job. Fantastic video and I am not surprised by Corsola's performance. It is similarly built like Meganium but is equipped with water and rock attacks. Though I wonder why it doesn't get access to Rock Throw... I think it would've been able to get ahead to Rival 2 a little faster if it started with Water Gun as it does in gen 9 at level 5 when bubble was removed entirely. But if it had Rock Slide (since it is an egg move) I think it could plow through the first two gyms and the tower no problem. Though most adorably in Pokémon Silver its sprite is waving at you when facing against you.
But I think with the software I will try and make Seel a slightly better Pokémon to use in Gen 1 by having it start right away with Headbutt and Aurora Beam. And by that extent Dewgong since I think that evolution line is my favorite for the water types available.
29:12 A "nice" victory. XD
EDIT: Oh right, something I've been wondering! Rather than an Oddish and Krabby, would it not be faster to catch a Sentret? Shuckle can learn Strength in place of Krabby and is given to you.
Interesting to see the utility of HP Flying, great run! Wonder if there were times you could've pre poisoned in the later fights to avoid the risk of paralysis given leftover/recover shenanigans.
Love your content ❤️
Would be fun to see how your pokemons effort values changes through the game.
If it possible to grab from the game like you grab the pokemons stats in battles
It would also help the second run as you might be able to optimize which routes you should prioritise grinding on
The functionality should be there already, as the overlay displays how many vitamins can be used, which is based on EVs/stat experience.
Something to note, Gen 3 introduced EVs as we generally understand them today. Gen 1 and 2 have stat experience. You gain stat experience equal to the base stats of whatever you knock out. This means that if you aren't battling pokemon that are VERY lopsided, you generally gain all stats decently well. Notably, you can max out ALL stats as well. Due to this, I am unsure how much actually seeing your stat experience would help, especially when the amount of EXP gained would also be a significant consideration.
Ah yes, Venomoth the grass/electric type.
One for the algorithm.
Releasing the Overlay is a great idea. You'll get a ton of extra traffic towards pokemon runs! Awesome idea!!!
I enjoy the light blue and pink theming for comparing the metrics at the end. That was a nice touch ^.^ This was a fun video! I can't say Corsola has ever truly been a favorite of mine but it's definitely been a Pokemon I've liked at the very least, and to see it get a good time is always nice. Like sure its not exactly competing with a lot of the fully evolved Pokemon but I'm not sure anyone expected it to. There's definitely something to be said for its style of play too since it has access to Recover, a move a lot of Pokemon do not have.
Releasing your overlay is also such an awesome move as well. Maybe I should actually take some time to do some solo playthroughs, even if I'm not doing it strictly for speed based reasons. I would love to get in some Snubbull testing...
Im so excited for the eventual Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff runs. I know competitively Jumpluff can do SOME things. I feel like in a solo challange though thats gonna be rough!
Wobbuffet fact: It has been featured in 20 cards in the tcg, 2 of wich are Rockets Wobbuffets
Pokemon crystal the best game of generation 2 specially the battle tower.
Good Job Scott!
Wow, when you ran this over a year ago, corsola came in at 3:14 and S-tier was "under 3 hours". You have really improved both this pokemon's time and your crystal play. Grats.
Also thanks to all the supporters on Patreon and RUclips, like me. ;)
Yeah. I wonder when my play is going to stop improving. The feeling I get is that it’s just around the corner. And then I find new ways or stop being stubborn and huge gains are made.
One to remind everyone who watches the video/stream to like the video.
Great content as always
Me, who’s started playing these in the background, looking up during those first battles against Lance’s Dragonite:
Its funny that Corsola a rock/water can learn mud slap and Gilgar who is a ground type can't learn it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I always liked Corsola.
"Oh my god, you know type effectiveness, i gonna faint" -whole fricking Sword and Shield Cast... kind of
I, too, was surprised when you KOed Venomoth as it is, in fact, a Grass/Electric type
Five because I always try to leave at least five.
I thought you learned protect to troll venu like you can slacking in gen 3 since it won't use sunny day since it sees you "quad resist" and it would just spam solarbeam since giga drain might not have a 1ko from full then was so confused 🤣 your so great at routing and stuff so I got a slight giggle on your first run love the videos! And thank you for not only making great content but releasing amazing UI for everyone your a champ!
Well, it didn't end up in A tier like it did two years ago, but what a beautiful playthrough. 💙
An extra one just because I can.
Thanks Scott!
Love the channel but I'm gonna keep asking for starmie in yellow or crystal til we see it! Keep up the good work
Way to spread the love of the game! Rom/overlay. 🎉
I may be a member but the news that it's out for everyone is exciting
Hey Scott, I sent you the email you asked for on the Hitmonlee stream. I never got a response so I figured either it got buried, or you were just too busy doing voiceovers to address it. Great video as always, glad to see Corsola get its second playthrough after the stream debacle!
Something I've come to terms with as I've gotten older is how much more frustrating it is to play games with intuitive strategies but mediocre results.
Corsela feels and plays *MUCH* better than a lot of Pokemon in Gen 2 would, but it's bad stats just leave you in a position where it feels like "Oh, I'm doing everything right and struggling anyways."
The struggle with using genuinely bad Pokemon is one of those things that becomes part of the entertainment. It's a little endearing to use bad tools and still succeed, which is way memetically terrible Pokemon like Deliberd and Hitmontop are fun. But Corsela *feels* good to use because of it's decent typing and wonderful movepool. It just isn't because it's stats hold it back so much.
It's such a bummer, but I'm still proud of it's results nonetheless.
Basically all the Gen 2 Pokemons except Mareep problem.
Given that almost all the Johtonian Pokémon are particularly bad, it would be cool to try a Nuzlocke where you exclusively use Gen 2 Pokémon in every generation after generation 2 to see what happens
@@warcriminalyesTyranitar? Houndoom? Kingdra?
@@zenitfan4life how many of those are avaible in a normal playthrough and not post E4/Late Kanto?
@@warcriminalyes good point.
For any wondering how much having bad DVs affect a pokemon, Corsola with perfect stats at level 100 has 208 attack. With 12 in its attack DV, it drops all the way to 202. Its HP drops from 313 to 297 going down to 7 in its HP DV.
Speed DVs are super impactful in competitive, where something like a 9 in speed means a perfect Slowbro outspeeds Corsola (30 vs 35 base speeds) but should matter much less in the "campaign" playthroughs.
Hope you do Huntail and Gorebyss (or a vs between them) this summer, if you are going to do some water Pokemon themed vids this season again.
I just think they're neat
Also clamperl here it's not so bad
I honestly think Corsola can do zero resets. It's not easy but it's definitely possible. At least in theory. In reality it would take a lot of time to do so.
Also it's great that you're releasing your Gen1 overlay for free for everyone to use. It really helps the community and is a great move from an academic/scientific point of view. Making science as accessible as possible.

“And then I wana talk about Bruno”. I see what you did there…
Love your content. Throughout your videos and streams you have mentioned that you used to tutor music. Have you ever thought of recording yourself playing and using that recording in your video’s? (Audio is what I meant)
you did this cute little piece of Coral proud Scott, much better run than the live stream. you got me thinking now, you said rock/water is a great combo for Jhoto, have you any plans for the fossils in Crystal, I know you've done Aerodactyl, but what of the Dark Lord and Lord Helix, I know you say you've got to redo them for Yellow, but how about for Crystal as well, do a few weekends of straight fossil runs, maybe the Gen 3 ones in Emerald as well
You know what I'd like to see? From you or someone else? The first and/or second gen, but with every pokemon set to medium slow growth rate. Since the growth rate seems like it really effs over a LOT of pokemon that would otherwise perform quite well.
I remember @23:50 from the stream and how disappointed you were that you forgot you had Protect to block Solarbeam (which would have saved you 10+ more attempts).
When I first got into pokemon I got a pokedex book for gen 1-4, knew corsola existed never knew where to get it. When I caught it I was like this is the worst thing ever for how rare it was
I always like picking weird hm type Pokémon for fly and surf . I had a corsula on my crystal play through as my water Pokémon and it was pretty decent honestly
Corsola is a badass
aye
I remember seeing this thing for the first time on the anime and just loved it! too bad it took until gen 8 to get an evo and they legit turned it into death ahah
I remember I did a "Mons with a crappy reputation" run of Soul Silver before.
Trust and believe that Corsola hard carried that run 'cause everyone else was god awful while Corsola gets early Surf, Ancientpower, Recover, etc.
Pain the speed run- alternative title.
Venomoth is famous for being grass and electric!
Nice a corsola run
Been slowly appreciating the water/ground typing more and more. Your Quagsire run is going to be fun!
For the Omni boost info, where did you find this out? It’s nowhere to be found on Bulbapedia, for example.
You can just test it a bunch, but you don't really need to. It's an after knockout effect which don't work in gen 2. You don't take poison damage or tick curse after you kill something, it skips that.
@@LOLC2k Then it should be marked.
We looked at the disassembly code to verify it.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon If so, why not also put it on Bulbapedia? Weren’t you once a Bulbapedia editor?
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Another question: if you were just off a specific range, did you consider using Ancient Power for a potential Omniboost, especially at the beginning of the battle?
Are you planning on doing a Bellossom run in crystal in the future?
Good stuff
Will you ever consider porting back distant future evolutions of gen 1/2/3 mons, such as cursola? It would be nice to see such Pokémon in the older games
How dare you publish the most comprehensive and best looking gen 1 overlay and spread the joy of Pokémon? ur a bad contetn craetor!
In all seriousnes though, when's the Parasect race coming?
