At first I didn’t think I’d buy it, but with the improved controls, free camera, silenced Fi, single time item descriptions, and cutscene skipping, I was convinced to buy it! I’m also really excited to play the first 3D Zelda that’s been released running at 60fps!
I remember the tutorial portion of SS being about 2 hours long. The HD version is nearly 9 times faster if you just skip all cutscenes. That is insane. Seeing the Switch version of SS is like that one person who wakes up so early that by the time the Wii version wakes up, the Switch version is just done with his work for the day.
Love the changes genuinely. A smoothed out tutorial and more player agency are exactly what this game needed. The Nintendo team learned from BOTW and they nailed it.

TO BE FAIR: The Wii run was much dirty & he did the Sword Tutorial which is optional in the Wii version also. EDIT: HERO MODE IN WII VERSION has faster text & skippable cutscenes. Back in the day I tried speedrunning on hero mode. With skipping cutscenes and going straight to the next story point I was able to reach the surface in 20 minutes. That's why I always made sure to have a blank hero mode file ready for next time in case I didn't feel like experiencing the intro again
Ok so I like that you can skip cutscenes, I'll take it. That said, I really wish they made you hold a button to skip them, story is important to this game and the idea of someone accidentally skipping one sucks
You gotta push the skip button twice in order to actually skip it. That prevents accidental skips, while also allow to skip almost instantaneously if you know what you're doing.
Link jumps off skyloft to meet his loftwing but lands on Revali instead, who catches him briefly, then promptly throws him off and Link plummets to his death.
I just got the game and completed this section in about an hour and a half. Being speedy is great but in my opinion this game is best experienced slowly with the player letting the brilliant presentation to really sink in.

I've honestly always loved the opening. But if they mostly took out (non-story) tutorial stuff, that's great. 👍 Edit: Wow, that's insane. (Cutscene skipping really makes a difference, doesn't it?)
It looks so good! The Wii version looks so rough because of capture-card complications, but the HD version altogether looks so much more smooth and streamlined in every way compared to the original. This is now a very good game, Nintendo have done a good thing here. I’ll be much less eager to doubt them when they announce something like this in the future.
while I will likely miss this iteration of skyward sword I can shamelessly say I've listened to bamboo island over 100 hours. That, fi's theme and ancient cistern will definitely keep me revisiting speed runs or the ost for years to come

Nailed it! I have played through this game three times. This is such a massive game changer. Not just skipping the cutscenes but all of those optimizations. Now I want to buy HD even though I have it on Wii. It's time.
In the time it took Switch to finish, Wii had only gotten to a point that Switch reached before Wii's opening cutscene had ended, namely getting the first sword. Wow.
It's not a new game. Not everyone needs to be forced to watch cutscenes for a game they already played before. Being able to skip cutscenes will make speedruns and returning playthroughs more fun.

I kinda want to know how much time the fast text alone saves, since it's obvious from the video that the bulk of time saved is through skippable cutscenes.
The thing is the comparison is not fair. The first time one plays the game the cutscenes will be watched. The comparison should have been Wii version Hero mode (skippable scenes, faster text) versus the Swiych version.

The difference in timing is incredible, but I do feel like a little of the charm the original had is missing from the Switch one. But maybe that's just 'cause it was all skipped ;;;

It really bothers me that nintendo, after even having a 25th anniversary logo at the beginning and the "25th anniversary of the knight academy" hint, did not even bother to change both of these to a 35. It would have fit perfectly!
I really hope the intro when you start the game and Link is sleeping is still in the game and for some reason John decides not to show the intro in the switch version but only the Wii version.
You can skip whole dialog sections with the minus (-) button, too! This is barely as fast as the Switch version will go! You guys should redo it and skip the Zelda and Groose dialog scenes. To clarify, I mean that you can skip the whole section of dialog you can already make faster by pressing B instead of A. Pressing Minus (-) skips more.
I am so excited to go pick up game later on today . It is currently 12:11 am and my near by gamestop opens at 8am supposedly so I am excited to go get this game. Sadly will only get to play like two hours cause then I got work at 11 .

But when I got Breath of the Wild, I actually had the game for about a month before I left the great plateau. Although to be fair ... a decade later, I've finished Breath of the Wild, but not Skyward Sword

Just a note is that the original did allow you to skip cutscenes. You had to have seen the cutscene before though on that system or be in hero mode.
Cut scenes actually makes the game look and feel alive instead of skipping them
