I wonder if my shipment will ever arrive? 🤷♂ I have some plans for when/if it does.
Do you know of any specific inspirations for your texts? I really like your style
not Anti-Gravity.
justa magnet.
if i lift up a cup, its not anti gravity cup. 🤪🤪🤪🤪
@@gree9963not with that mindset!
I did the same project, but I used thin black thread as my anti gravity mechanism for my ornaments
Probably much safer to put on a real tree!
You could call it Feliz Gravidad (happy Gravity) in a pun about Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas)
Gold!
Hahaha love it
Who is Feliz?
@@leef_me8112 happy in Spanish
@@leef_me8112 That's Happy Gilmore's cousin from Spain
Man, this is real production value!
Thanks!
The whole retro-future story arc, or whatever you might call it is super cool. I know it is a huge effort but definitely sets you apart from other maker content. Can’t wait for more! Especially more Volvo turbo stuff!
Thanks This upcoming year hoping to really ramp up production. Definitely some Volvo stuff in the works!
If you put coils inside the necks of the ornaments you should be able to power LEDs using the energy from the pulsing magnetic field. Full-wave rectennas! They’re like a half-wave rectenna, but hole!
I thought about it, maybe v2? actually v2 could be wireless levitating Christmas lights! hmm... lol
The common man is not concerned about the passage of time, the man of talent is driven by it. Arthur Schopenhauer. Loved the video!
dude .. just amazing project / video / editing / narrating / story / producing .. just in awe of your talent ..
Thank you! I appreciate the kind words
This is what RUclips should be all about. The vibe of the videos is awesome.
Dude, you made my morning!
Yesterday I was thinking about if you were going to post anything this year. 😄
One year I won’t make it, but not this year!
merry christmas Sean. Always fun to watch your christmas videos.
Great work! You should put this in your living room😂 Also, love the old oscilloscope.
My dog would not be happy with that 😆- Thanks Austin
Lovely project, though I kinda miss a shot of it in the dark! And I'm very curious to hear if the coils heat up over time.
Oh that slipped through, I’ll post some dark shots/videos! They do heat up, mostly when they become unstable. Otherwise they’re pulling about 5W continuous. I put little heat sinks on them but not sure how it affects them.
Thanks for sharing Sean! I love your sense of humor!
Thank you! Enjoy your holidays!
your intro about time made me subscribe right away
Love it! POV + antigravity tree next year?
I should probably get working on that now…
Hi man, miss you videos with blend of engineering and retro-futuristic movie vibe. Hope you fine.
Very cool!
Hey, Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas! Thank you!
I absolutely love your videos. You're awesome!
Thank you so much!
It's not officially the holidays if we don't get the ornament project, a few more cryptic hex codes and some White Bat tracks. Love it!
Thanks Salim! Made it just in time.
Great video!
Thanks!
It's a huge pleasure for us to be a part of your campaign , as always NICE BUILD! 🥳🥳,
Where did you buy your electromagnet coils?
Alibaba, but just search 19x12mm coils and they should come up various places.
Was that the time machine from primer that 0x1B5F50C5 was working on? That might be problematic
Don't pay attention to that one, he has no idea what he is doing.
awesome video, on another note, weird question. what kind of cargo pants are those? i need something like those
Thanks! They are from a company called BAD workwear. I like them a lot, pretty much only pants I wear.
Where can i find those electro-magnets??
Did you consider sampling the back EMF from the coil to determine the distance to the permanent magnet?
I did not. That sounds like a cool way to do it. One problem with the linear hall sensor is the EM messes with the sensor. I tried turning it off to take a reading but with the inductance the current sticks around too long. So that could be an alternate solution.
What inductors/electromagnets are you using here? Having trouble finding ones without ferrous shells…
Search for “19x12mm coil” - that will get you the result you need.
siiiiiick build video
Thanks!
I've never seen one of your videos before, and while I don't plan on building a tree like that, I'm definitely coming back for more videos.
Exemplary! I love it when YT notifies me you have a new video! Merry Xmas and Happy New year mate!
Thanks Seon! You too!
The past 11 minutes really flew by!! Awesome job on this one!
I like to hear that, thanks!
Without time, we would be pointless; left wandering in the dark continuum of a fruitless existence. Many thanks for this episode, it's always good to see a new upload from you. Best edits, very descriptive with component explanations... you Sir, are the "influence" that our young, impressionable, American children should have in their algorithm. Much love, from a house of Aerospace nerds. ✌🏼
0:09 My last name is rush so yes all the time
You can't escape it!
i'm really not being that guy, i swear, 😂 but gravity doesn't pull things down, and there are no forces of gravity. there is only upward acceleration of mass like Earth pushing upwards against you at all times, due to warping of spacetime lol.. this video is dope btw ❤ (also- this comment is very funny because it's so unecessarily pedantic yet accurate 😂😂)
There is nothing wrong with being accurate 😛
Did i miss where the designs/plans for making one of these are?
(Not versed enough to make from instructions in video, even though I'm quite positive all the info needed is there)
What’s the magic search term for those coils? :)
19x12mm coil 😉
I just found this channel and holy is it cool and great. Awesome job gor everything you do and thank you for the inspiration!
Very nice! Thanks for the inspiration!
Please give a hint where or how to find such coils.
I found them on alibaba but I think aliexpress should have them also x.alibaba.com/AvLigx?ck=pdp
@@SeanHodgins Strangely couldn't find anything like this on aliexpress. Thanks for the link!
@3:22 It looks like your electro-magnets have a hole in the middle. Couldn't you aim a laser pointer diode from above the magnet through the hole and into the 'floating' ornament to hit a diffuser inside the ornament to give it some light? I am assuming for no particular reason that the metal on the ornament also has a hole in it.
Did you end up using PID control for the electromagnets?
No, couldn’t get the PID tuned properly in time. , I might do a livestream doing some more stuff with them.
@@SeanHodgins That would probably make them behave more stable and in turn reduce the power consumption so they don't start overheating.
Love what you're doing with the storytelling man!
Love your unique style!
Thank you!
I have it on good authority that "time is the fire in which we burn!" Also, what the hell is going on?
I really love your conten, i wish i could be more influent to help you in your journey
5:04 😂 I love how things in your universe are sentient
After all this time, your videos are still soooo underrated
Saw a SH video and I liked before watching. I love your monologue especially the one at the end of your CNC lathe video. I hope you don't change the format
Thank you! We'll see where this takes us.
Take the magnet OUT of the payload and just use a piece of ferrous material.
There will be NO attraction when the electromagnet is off.
They don’t pull enough to do that. You need both, and the linear hall sensor can’t detect non magnetic ferrous metal so the system doesn’t know where the object is.
An idea i've had for long is making a levitating a cube that's entirely made of 0.96" that persistently display memes and nothing else.
Do it!
what's with that car dent?
It was parked on a street before I acquired it, and someone walking by gave it a kick.
@@SeanHodgins it matches the profile of a maker. It doesn't need to be pretty, but only to work.
Another gem. Thanks for sharing, Sean!
Thanks for watching!
nice video and project. is that robot arm actually as amazing and useful as it looks like?
Thanks! he’s pretty unhelpful for a lot of the stuff I do but he tries his best! Great for difficult camera work though.
sadly i have embraced sloth-hood...but you inspire me to brake threw
you can do it!
Great video! I love the intro, and the cinematography is amazing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videos always give me Mr Robot vibes. Great project as always
Thanks man!
Exactly what I was thinking! Was looking for someone else to point it out.
👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Mr. Robot?
wicked, i made one of those in '92 - 30 years ago ;0
You're further ahead of the game than me. :)
Now transfer power at the same time to have light up ornaments!
That’s a great idea, need more coils
First
You were!
🥰🥰🥰
Its just ricks killing ricks...........
It’s just Seans all the way down
I haven't even gotten past the first few seconds and I'm already loving it. You really have awesome cinematography and story telling skills, never mind the technical stuff. I really love your videos, keep it up, you're awesome!
Thank you! Hoping to do a lot more this year
Wow this is incredible Sean! Aother creative, unique and annual Christmas project under your belt. I love your helper in the video. Lol. Love Dad
Thanks dad!
Oh my that intro tho
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
you are not normal... its cool, please we are waiting more video. By the way is that demo of J.A.R.V.I.S.
Maybe a demo for a future project!
amazing 🤩
Thanks 🤗
Brilliant work, this kind of workspace is my goal. :D
Mine too, I've already filled it up somehow and I never thought I would!
i literally had a convo at home of a levitating christmas tree in a livingroom like maybe 3 days ago
Haha, that was the other option…
Awesome project, I've always wanted to build one of these!!
When I test the boards you can build one of those!
6 min how to and 6 min stile 🙃
The perfect ratio?!
@@SeanHodgins That is a tuff question. I believe you can make a good video with any ratio between 0 and 1, but the optimal ratio probably depends on your goal and your situation and even if I knew both, I wouldn't know what the perfect ratio would be. But it does not have to be perfect, just as good as you can make it. (Like anti-gravity ornaments, you just have to keep it balanced 🙂)
imagine making 120 by hand :)
maybe next time with ultrasonic levitation so they don't drop on ground?
I could imagine my neck giving out half way through, yeah. lol
I'm not sure how much weight ultrasonic levitation can support, but that could be interesting!
I wonder if you could use the magnetic field turning on and off to light up the ornament?
You could add a separate circuit to handle that, I'm not sure how easily it would be done with the single EM. I decided against trying that early to avoid scope creep.
I'm not sure I followed the logic for your electromagnet choice, I was able to achieve the same with the same with your first mentioned electromagnet a couple years back. I'd like to know more about why you thought it was too ferrous.
Hmm, I think it’s a timeline issue, I could see it working, but the stability issue I was having was causing them to jump to the edges. So maybe the magnets I was using were too strong!
@@SeanHodgins That could make sense, the magnets I was using might have been smaller. I'd be curious to know how the power consumption compares because from my understanding the shell around the coil focuses the magnetic field more in the direction you're interested in holding the magnet up.
This is the best channel on youtube because he uses Karl Casey music
He’s great!
Novel use for the Diresta Ice Pick Twister. 😄
Ill complete that project... one day!
Second
can u share the code and project files?
I will yep! Putting together a GitHub, just had to rush getting the video out 😂
Amazing, great video as always@@SeanHodgins
Who's "they"?
Which they are you talking about?
SEAN pls collab with ALEX LAB
I could do without the interruptions and meta stuff, and character arc and bad acting.
lmao thanks for your "positive" input.
