Fuck man, I’ve been a Tool fanatic since I was 14, and I regret the fact that I’ve never fully appreciated just what an outstanding bass player and crucial element of Tool’s characteristic sound Chancellor really is. Been learning a ton of his bass lines lately and been having a revelation. His bass is always way too buried in the mix, it NEEDS to be even more front and centre in the mix. Man, a revelation, I’m having, what the faaaaaaak 😻🤩🙏
5:10 I don't know if it's just me, but i find that this riff, even though it's the same, changes drastically when the other parts of the song change. It starts to sound darker or stronger, in a way.
that 9 at 6:25 is so simple but brings the song to another level (and it's already been brought to another level like 5 times). i thought it was a power chord, but i'm a drummer so just guessing
Creo que esta es una de las canciones más complejas y "caóticas" de Tool. Y, de nuevo Leo, consigues dominar con las cuerdas esta obra maestra. Desde España, gracias por compartir tu talento!!! Gracias, Tool, por existir ❤🎸
looking back at this and a few other things makes me feel good about how much ive progressed over the last few years, and as always thanks for making these!
Killer Warwick tone! My local music store can order a lefty five pro series and get it in a month or so, so I’ll be getting a warwick soon, appreciate your help and the help from the discord bros. Easily my favorite Tool song too, can’t get enough of the climax and the final chorus, with the layered vocals and soulful guitar playing and perfect bass playing.
thank you so much for this video and the others you make. It has helped me learn so much better! I also learning the guitar and drums and there are no good videos like this that help so if you know anyone that can do what you can do on guitar and drums tell them to post a video!!
Around 5.48 ith that simple tu du tu du du he dies not hit all the notes but instead taps one of those with other hand and it is much more fluid that way, does no one else hear this??? Othe than that nice maan. I love that bassline.
Well that's just the riff they played before that. If you listen closely, you can't really hear a 7_10 - 5 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 5 - 7 going on. Truth is, I can't correct you cause you can never be sure about these things. But I really don't hear anything else other than what I'm playing here.
Those are artificial harmonics and those are tapped an octave above the fret you are holding. So when I hold the 9th fret, I tap the 21th fret for the harmonic. For the 13th harmonic, I tap the 25th fret which isn't actually a fret, but it's positioned somewhere up high.
So I’ve started with the daunting task of actually trying to record, and I had a few questions. Do I need an audio interface and a direct injector? I tried using just a rocksmith cable into my laptop with audacity and ran into latency that I can’t seem to fix. Any input would be appreciated.
You definitely need an audio interface for digital recording. You can use the real tone cable, but then it would need to go into basic software like audacity. Otherwise, you're doomed really
Thank you! My setup is digital so it won't be a very good answer. In this video, I probably used my Ampeg SVT-VR bass amp simulator, along with some distortion from KHDK Abyss pedal. All the other effects are digital too..
heyyo its me again. The guy that is obsessed with tone. So, for this song, how is the bass treble mids and tone knob setup? im sure u can tell by ear somehow. you weirdo musicians. aight thats it for now. thanks
And you'll know that I will just say "I can't remember.." right? I remember having fairly new strings when I recorded this, but that's it really. Other than that, just the usual high treble/bass settings I always give you. Little bit of distortion, some compression, etc.
I have a drive option on my Boss OC-3 Octaver, but I never use it tbh. My rig is mainly digital so.. no pedals for drive/distortion anymore. I used to use a KHDK Abyss overdrive pedal though. It's not that great
does not sound like the patient in many times, i have to hear a lot the original song and some parts have extra notes that's not are in the original song, good job anyway...
The only part that might be wrong is at 3:36. A lot of people have said that they hear the same riff as before but just on the D string. so 7-10-5-7 instead of 14-17-12-14. The rest is fine though.
0:55 watch out!! wrong string in the tabbies !!! gotcha there U.U
oof, silly mistake during the transcription it seems. Thanks for pointing it out!
Came to the comments to see if anyone else caught that. 😁
Instablaster.
You'd probably understand if you actually play bass
5:52 is when every is making there own solo and yet they all sound in sync.... amazing

You nailed that intro. I never even realized that was bass until I went to learn this song
Thanks Ian! I also no idea to be honest when I first heard the song..
the part from 5:21 to 5:51 always sends shivers down my spine! One of the most epic moments in music history
Same here, it's so amazing
4:28 man you nailed that transition
Much appreciated!
3:04
That part is so beautiful ❤
5:10

Oh definitely darker. It always sounds a bit .. sad to me? Can't quite explain it.
What a fun bass line to learn! Been a TooL fan since the 90's and always take a trip learning their songs! Thanks for the killer lessons!
Learning Tool is really something else for some reason.. Somehow different to any other band. Thank you :)
This is the most help I've ever had learning Tool, thank you.
Happy to help!
My favorite Tool song.
Definitely overshadowed by Schism, Lateralus and The Grudge on this album..
that 9 at 6:25 is so simple but brings the song to another level (and it's already been brought to another level like 5 times). i thought it was a power chord, but i'm a drummer so just guessing
Goodness. I've always loved this track. These tabs have helped me appreciate how gorgeous and genius this song is in a whole new way.
Glad I could help :)
Good stuff. JC is such an innovative player, especially his work on Disposition through Triad.
Probably the most innovative modern bassist at this moment..
@LeoBassCovers I'm a JC fanatic but... Thundercat.
Played this on my four string cort and it sounded wonderful
One of my favorites Tool songs, great cover !
Thanks! :)

Really enjoying these. Third Eye was awesome too

No problem! Glad I could help really
Congratulations for this line my friend. I really enjoy your tool covers, for sure it helps to develop my bass playing skills !
So good
Thank you!
Did you get the beginning effect leaving the volume full, switch between the pickup
You’re my favorite bass cover channel, awesome cover :)
I appreciate it :)

No problem!! My mate Max has made a lot of amazing videos for Tool songs, including The Patient:

I started learning this song 2 days ago and this video helped a lot thanks!
No problem!!

Good job. I like how you did the intro.
Thanks!
Thanks for the cover!!
No problem!
Está muy bueno! 🔥
i think 3:36 part should be 7_10 - 5 - 7 - 7 - 7 - 5 - 7 on D.
currently it's sounds like unharmonious. correct me if i'm wrong.

Grandioso amigo 😃
QL Q TOCA LA CANCION SIN TRASTES. un genio
Can you explain to me what’s going on at 4:29 with the 9 and 13th fret harmonics? I’m having trouble interpreting what’s going on right there

@@LeoBassCovers2 Thank you so much man that helps a ton 🙏
Hello Leo, this sounds awesome! Do you have a bass only version for this track? Cheers
Right here :)

Are you using a wah for the intro? (Not able to get that wah like sound using the tone knob on my budget Ibanez...)
it's the volume knob! :D

Is it weird that this is my favorite tool song?
uh, no? It's one of my favourites as well.
Fantastic. How do you get your bass tone ? What's your setup ? I have an Ampeg BA115HP combo and a Fender Precision/Jazz hybrid
Thank you! My setup is digital so it won't be a very good answer. In this video, I probably used my Ampeg SVT-VR bass amp simulator, along with some distortion from KHDK Abyss pedal. All the other effects are digital too..
Love the cover. How fast is the flanger set to though?
Thanks! I honestly have no idea..
LeoBassCovers2 oh okay! Keep up the good work (and new album hype)
This song has a lot of interesting chords, I wish Tool would do more of this rather than just slamming in their usual voicings
Yeah, one of my all time favorite bands, but sometimes I wish they’d explore more harmonies than just D minor/phrygian
What strings do you use?
Warwick 40301M Black Label
045-065-085-105-135
how can you tap with one hand so loud when i do it its so quiet and inaccurate maybe i need to practice it more
Compression :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 dude how do you find time to reply to every comment its amazing
Cause I'm not THAT busy haha. But I want to reply to everybody so I make time for it too
I write riffs like this in my band all the time. They other guys just want to know the the 1 is :/ that’s my struggle :(

@@LeoBassCovers2 5 mins response. Bro ima make another account to sub or something. But anyway, do you use driver pedals?

Do fear inoculum
Already did it. I covered the entire album :)
Also, I noticed you don't use your pinky finger. Interesting, that's all ! :)
Probably just coincidence haha, I do use my pinky in most of the covers :)
does not sound like the patient in many times, i have to hear a lot the original song and some parts have extra notes that's not are in the original song, good job anyway...
