  • Florida senior Caeleb Dressel won the 50-yard free in a time of 17.63 seconds Thursday night, taking almost half a second off the mark he had set earlier in the day at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis.
    Dressel's time of 17.63 beat the previous American, NCAA, U.S. Open and Florida record of 18.11 seconds, which Dressel had set in a prelim earlier in the day.
    NC State's Ryan Held was second, finishing more than a second behind Dressel in 18.64. Minnesota's Bowen Becker was third.

    To everyone saying it's not a WR. The previous WR holder for the Men's 50y freestyle in short course was Cesar Cielo Filho (the Brazilian who holds the world records for 50- and 100-M free)

      Regardless...it's yards not meters so can't be a WR. Yards are ONLY in the US and only at NCAA. (He is an absolute talent tho!)

      @oatmilkplays 5 лет назад +18

      @@kayamagan22 I'm not even american but even I have to admit that it's a WR. It's the NCAA, it's a different format, so what? Still the fastest time anyone has set in this format ever. It's like saying a WR set in the Japanese nationals doesn't count because it was held in Japan...(?

    • @kayamagan22
      @kayamagan22 5 лет назад +8

      @@oatmilkplays I take you point on the 'fastest time anyone has set in this format' YARDS,only really used in the US,no one else would bother with it around the world. WR broken at the Japanese nationals would count as a WR cos ONLY metric form is being used at their championship (to the best of my knowledge)which is the widely accepted format when it comes to athletic performance.(world wide) No one sets (wants to set) WR in 91m Sprint event in athletics.

    • @oatmilkplays
      @oatmilkplays 5 лет назад +8

      @@kayamagan22 point still stands. This is the fastest time anyone has ever recorded in this format. Therefore, it's a WR. It's not like the best swimmers in the world don't compete in the NCAA. A WR set in yards is still a WR and like I said. The previous holder of this record was Cesar Cielo Filho. The only man who swam sub-47 in the 100m freestyle and also WR holder in the 50m freestyle. He swam in the NCAA as well and had the previous record. Are you telling me you would have recognized his WR's in metric but not his WR in yards? We have to be consistent. Once again, I'm not american and don't understand the imperial system for shit, but we should give credit where credit is due. His swim is still impressive regardless of it being in the NCAA.
