  • When you open the door, does it keep falling back on you when on a slope and won’t stay open?
This means that the door check, a small arm that is attached to the door at mid-height isn’t keeping the door open in the preset locations. This piece will need to be replaced.
In this video, I show how to remove and replace the door check on a door on a 2005 Honda Accord.

I was able to replace the door check without taking the inside door panel off. I removed all of the screws as directed and popped loose the bottom of the inside panel I peeled back the plastic rain/noise layer back and was able to reach under and through the access to remove the old unit. I did drop the new one twice and was able to reach down near the speaker and retrieve it but I recommend care to NOT drop the new one. I DO recommend extending the arm of the new unit before trying this- it allows you more length to work with. To extend the arm, I used a woodworking clamp. Hope this helps.
The video was helpful to see what’s behind the door and where the clips and screws are located!

LOL. You start out saying how this is going to be an easy job to replace the door check mechanism. Then it turns into an ordeal to properly remove the door panel and all the wires and cable without breaking anything. Not so easy.

Nice video. I would appreciate that you tell people what size any nuts are so that people know what tools they need to remove/reinstall parts. Also any other type of information that you may have discovered an issue, etc. I am about to change both my checekers and it would be nice to know what size wrenches, for the nuts and bolts, whether you need a special tool like impact wrench, etc. Did you reseal the gasket covering the open space to get at the part?? EtC. I liked the way you addressed the opener latch that broke. Most car doors have this type of clip and they are fragile and sometimes hard to detach. Sorry you had that problem. All in all a good DIY video.

      thanks for sharing your thoughts!
my focus was to show how things are done, using just simple tools. if a special tool is needed, I'd report that.

It is strongly suggested to disconnect the battery whenever working working on your car. even something simple as unplugging switches.

This was an excellent video. Not only did you describe everything that I needed to know in detail with clear video footage, but you also included the extremely helpful information about avoiding breaking the door pull cable bushing. Because you included that, I was able to avoid it I appreciate it, and if anyone wants the part numbers for the left and right front door checks on the 2003 Honda Accord, they are as follows:
    Left front 72380-SDA-A01
    Right front 72340-SDA-A01
    Thank you again!

You broke the green plastic on door handle release cable I advise you to replace it or you will have a problem to open your door. It happened to me.
