I have been on flights where the passengers applaud upon landing. It expresses gratitude to the pilots and crew for a safe flight. It was especially frequent just after September 11, 2001.
Thank you for your fantastic videos, Josh!
    Informative, well made, adventurous. 😊

As I was watching, I was surprised that the passengers were applauding when the plane landed in Tashkent. That was very interesting. When planes land in Puerto Rico, the passengers applaud also.

Quite a few airlines really, you should visit Iran, and go on from there to Istanbul, quite a few unique airlines do the route. Ariana do their KABUL-ISTANBUL route on an ageing a310 too which is quite cool. One very unique trip is on UTAIR of Russia, from Moscow to the other side of Russia on a 767-200 (not so many flying in the world) a total of 9 hours. That would be mega cool.

Can't say this enough to producers of trip reports. Tell your audience how much each flight costs, so people can make a better assessment of services rendered. Where you get a free or discounted flight, you don't have to say what you actually paid. Instead, just quote the lowest possible going rate without travel points on that particular departure date. That way, if services falls short of what some have come to expect, it could still be justified, given price point.

I've been told by colleague on a recent buisness trip to Baku that some governments in Eastern Europe and Central Asia are weary of returning ISIS fighters/loyalists. Apparently they're not only monitoring for returning citizens, but also for foreigners who may be avoiding arrest upon return to their own country.
This may not have anything to do with your experience. My guess is that the camera confused them, especially in a post-Soviet nation.
It's also possible that you were just fulfilling a daily quota they may have for extra questioning that they may have to document on their end of shift report.
Great video, btw! I live in the New York area, but have to travel for work frequently to Central Asia, the Balkans, Moldova and Belarus. It's always great to see others' experiences with airlines/airports I've become familiar with.

I flew with Uzbekistan Airways last weekend on their AB A320NEO from DXB-TAS, and to be fair they were really good. The plane was new, and very comfy. The staff yes did look a little dour at times but it didn't detract from what was a really nice flight, and after spending a little time talking to them they were incredibly friendly. I don't think i met an unfriendly Uzbek for my entire stay, in fact quite the opposite, they went out of their way to help us.
What i would really i would really find interesting (if you could add things to your videos) is more about the airports you travel through. Especially things like immigration, arrivals and taxis etc, as i travel through some random places and would like know what to expect. Thanks.

I can imagine 2 possible reasons for the tight security measures: either they are afraid of terrorism (Usbekistan had a problem with Islamistic terror groups in the past) or: they're afraid of political journalists. Even though longtime-ruler Karimov died in 2016, Usbekistan is still pretty much an authocratic-dictatoric state. Not as bad as Turkmenistan, but not as "open" as Russia either. Something in between. They're not used to Western tourists, especially not on an exotic route like Istanbul-Tashkent. So maybe they were just afraid you're some kind of opposition-/ political journalist.

But when the big boss man arrived and after hours of interrogation my Kiwi dad was allowed to go and to keep his film. I would think security was fairly tight as you are flying in a "sensitive" area of the world given the current situation...though you could say flying to the USA etc is not much different !! I would not be surprised if Uzbekistan airlines were flying old Soviet built aircraft which were probably banned from flying to European destinations due to safety concerns ? Just a thought ! So in recent times they probably needed to upgrade their fleet...and I am sure they can afford it !! How can someone make chicken taste like "soap" or should that be slop ? Rough old landing...no wonder they all clapped...reminds me of some flights I have done in China !! It does seem strange that you virtually fly close to KL to Jakarta and then turn around and head to KL but probable an issue with "freedom rights" on certain routes. Qatar fly to Singapore and sometimes that flight continues to Indonesia and comes back via Singapore ! Strange Business class lay out 2 x 1 x 2 ? Cabin crew age about the same as United ! ( Maybe they trained there ??) Was the airport Changi or maybe KL ?? Great stuff Josh....enjoy Royal Brunei (dry airline uuughh ) and looking forward to our next flight together. I will be in KL next week and flying Malaysia Airlines in Business Class from Melbourne and am looking forward to the flight and 10 days in Malaysia!!

Clapping after landing is not just a Soviet thing! It's done on other airlines. It's a way of thanking the pilot for getting you to the destination safely. What's wrong with that! You would like to be congratulated or thanked for producing your videos, Pilots would like to get some acknowledgement as well

I would say a nightmare flight with Uzbekistan airways. Crazy rules , why it’s forbidden to film inside the plane in 21 century. Very strange. Next time I would suggest to choose an Air Astana of Kazakhstan. It’s the best airline in the whole CIS and Eastern Europe region. If you compare those two airlines, it’s like 5 star hotel to 2 star hotel. Uzbekistan airways buys new planes but inside service is very bad like Soviet airline and so outdated. Food quality and IFE is very poor, stewardess uniform is typical soviet style, interior is very simple. Cutlery is plastic, food is same like from canteen. Don’t waste money for such suspicious airlines instead take a high quality airline like Air Astana which has direct flights to all major Asian cities.

I have only experience on Royal Brunei and Garuda Indonesia in Business Class and both are very good. From staff I would say Royal Brunei is one of the best. Often you are alone in Business Class and you have two flight attendants which take care about you. This is quite like in a private plane.

There are certain places in the world where it's quite prevalent on flights which are Int then fly onwards to a domestic route. Gangs will board the domestic leg and target foreigners on the flight. To avoid an argument with someone from that part of the world who gets offended by proveable facts being pointed out I wont mention where it's especially bad but some google research should tell/ show you easily enough if you are interested.
I also thought he was going to say the crew and that it was more a confiscation than a theft.

I am not sure how is your overall idea about my country's people attitude but you just saw people who are already tired of meeting people but I would recommend you to go out and travel to Uzbekistan's historical places such as Bukhara Khiva and Samarkand. I am sure that you will find out that people are more friendly and open minded. As you mentioned we still have more security check but if you know that happens for us when we fly to USA. I think that is security check which happens in most of the cases. I personally flew to New York and I got such questions and 4 to 5 security checks. Lol.
Once more thank you very much for trying Uzbek Airways. You will see dramatic changes in near future. Hope see you again with Uzbek related videos. 👍👍🙂😉

Hey man, really liked your video! I am from Tashkent(Uzbekistan) been living in Europe for more than 3 years and also been traveling a lot I fly at least 7-8 times per year. I can give you an explanation with Uzbekistan airways plane fleet, So basically a year ago when Uzbekistan president has made an official visit to the US he agreed with Trump to purchase 5 Dreamliners however one of the aircraft's within first 13000 km of use has broken due to the short flights cuz as you know those Dreamliners were built to have a long-distance flights and long story short already two of them for sale! BTW that landing applause is a common thing between ex-soviet countries.

The other 3 dreamliners were agreed upon by Shavkat Mirziyoyev when he visited NYC in 2018. They currently have another one in order. The aircrafts were not broken because that is a fake information. They were sent to Germany and Netherlands for upgrades. The dreamliner that broke is Moscow airport had computer problems and was not broken at all. Hope I clarified the nonsense you said above.

I really appreciate your economy class reviews. I can totally relate with your comment about finding it easier to sleep in an economy seat. I like you always grab the back seats and reserve the window seat as I can rest my head against the window or fuselage. I am very tall and I find business class seats to be wide but not really wide for the feat. Often I feel like I am in a cocoon. 3e economy seats across is better than a lie flat business class seat.
