    Trying this tonight! A little trick is to secure all the tubes with a rubber band in a circular formation and you can set them on a plate or bowl to catch any drips.

    This video was so well-timed for me. I think I've developed some kind of allergy or intolerance to something in most lip balms. I found an organic unscented balm from Dr Bronner's, which is pretty nice, but expensive. I think this will be a fun winter project to tackle this year.

    Tallow balms, and anything tallow are my favorite products. I know you said you have been making this recipe for years, but if you don’t mine I will suggest to leave the shea out and add it into the melted beeswax and coconut oil. Shea is head sensitive and sometimes it causes a grainy feeling/ texture after a while. My recipe is pretty similar and I love it!

I either put my tubes in a circle with a rubber band around them or I have a silicone measuring cup that the same height as the tubes that I can put 5-6 tubes in for easier filling & moving to the refrigerator to cool. I also use popsicle sticks, regular size & larges ones for getting my product out of the measuring spoons & stirring while melting. Merry Christmas 🎄

    I made this with my 10-year-old granddaughter. I didn't have olive oil so I subbed jojoba oil. I had to make two batches because the first batch I was more like lip gloss instead of a thicker balm. I figured out that because I'm using a block of beeswax instead of the pellets the measurement for the amount of Beeswax is quite different. I thought I could just grate to tablespoons 😕. Before we did the second batch I did a little research and discovered that 2 tablespoon of pellets is about 1 oz off of the block of beeswax. I used my kitchen scale to weigh it out. So, once we got the ratios correct it came out perfect ❤

      @mschele64 Месяц назад

      @@lizchilders4154 The article I linked was my inspiration and plantain salve was the first concoction I foraged and made from scratch. I gathered enough broad leaf plantain leaves to fill a pint jar, washed & dried, then chopped them very finely and covered with olive oil. After about 6 weeks I strained it off and used it to make the salve. I also keep some of the infused oil in case we have a big poison ivy breakout or someone is covered in mosquito bites or chiggers. It’s easy to just slather on the oil. For the salve, I add a tablespoon of beeswax (either pellets or finely chopped) per ounce of infused oil, and heat it all in a double boiler until the wax melts. I like to add a drop or two of lavender essential oil too, after I take it off the heat, but that isn’t necessary for it to work. Pour the melted mix into the tubes and let it cool. Easy peasy.

      @@thehomesteadingrdbabassu oil is a replacement for coconut oil, you can also use cocoa butter instead since it’s a harder butter compared to shea.

    I think they do make a paper tube that could replace the plastic… not sure if it would work for this application. We have had so many issues with chapsticks that we had to resort to Aquaphor😖. We may just have to try this! Merry Christmas! 🌲😊❤️

      Aquaphor is the only thing that works for my kids. They're so sensitive to everything. The least amount of ingredients and no flavors, the better. My kids hate Peppermint chapstick the most.

    Do you use food grade essential oil? I wanted to add scent to mine, but everything I read says to use food grade oils, but they aren’t easy to find, and expensive.

    How do you get 17 cents a tube? A 50 count bag of tubes on Amazon is $13.97 which is about 28 cents just for the tube.
