- This Ozark foothills conservation area includes a stretch of the St. Francois river, which, when in flood as seen here, is used for kayaking. It is also known for its wild flowers. The history of the name is not known, but there were silver mines in the area in the 19th century, now long abandoned. The land was purchased for a summer retreat, and two areas now have extensive "jungles" of wisteria growing in the cedars along the bank, left over from that time.
