Well I think 'equal' in this sense means equal rights, equal opportunities, etc., Of course nobody's the same, we're all different individuals. So 'equal' here means fair, no one has an artificial or arbitrary advantage over someone else for no good or logical reason. LIke you get to start a foot race with another person at the same starting line...you aren't unfairly set back 3 ft. for some arbitrary reason. In this case you aren't being treated 'equally'. It all depends on which definition of the word 'equal' you choose (and they exist in a dictionary).
