- Act I. Scarpia (Roberto Frontali) sends the police agent Spoletta (Saverio Fiore) to follow Tosca. As the church celebrates Napoleon’s apparent defeat with a Te Deum, the Chief of Police indulges in his plan to steal Tosca for himself.

Marvelous! This is how opera should be presented in all its drama and majesty! It's the way we saw Tosca presented in the same opera house in Rome over 50 years ago with Tito Gobbi as Scarpia. Absolutely marvelous!
You lucky thing! I don't go anymore to this much loved passion of my younger years. Sydney Opera House was taken over by the hideous sexualising lobby of the sodomites and the use of minimalist sets and much audio visual antics....YUK!

I'm sorry, but Ingvar Wixell will always be the one and only Scarpia for me. This fellow's voice is not near strong enough or menacing enough for me.
