You were the first person I've ever seen explain / show leveling the way you do with the channel rack and that was something i had never really known or used until now. I saw it in one of your more recent videos but its cool to hear you say it back when you did this!
it does and it isss. im an edm producer but this still helps so much especially more than a lot of other people doing tutorials like this so this is dope
That tip of cutting out 30-40 Hz of the kick just took mine to the next level, and I already learn how to make my snares hit harder from you, so my drums are cracking now!
HolaHola! I have the most annoying problem, when i record a vocal and want to listen back, i have to manualy move the audio file back, its like it wont snap to grid or something! i dont know.. been in contact with fl studio support, ive reaced out to many youtubers, and no one knows... its a brand new expensive computer, so its not that... can you please help me!!
Man,i ve just found you on internet and i told to my self to try watch your vids. I ve been watching your vids for almost an hour and i learned so much😁 Thank you so much i realy apreciate you! I want also to start posting on youtube ,sell beats and get known and guys like you just inspire me and push me to acomplish my dreams. Already pressed that bell button🔥
I'm kinda glad you took a while too for figuring out how important sound selection is, i questioned my entire existence when i could not figure out why my tracks sound so muddy for 3 moths. xD
Once again another video i sorely needed to add to my collection of information, ive had too many issues with lining them up accordingly! Thank you again man! your teaching methods are smooth and easy man!
it saved me in one of my first few beats i was doing so i kinda try to make sure i do it. I have noticed now that more beats i do that it really depends on the kick /808 combo and what your trying to do with it. thanks and i love your work! subscribe to my channel if u get the time!
I normally don't leave comments, but this video was extremely insightful. I appreciate the breadth of knowledge you dropped here. You should definitely get paid for this, lol. Much appreciated.
What the fuck, why are there not more videos like this. This guy is the only one who explains shit like this. Other just show quick examples and that's it. 10/10 would watch again
At 5:00, You adjusted the volume of the kick on the channel and not the Mixer. What's the difference between changing the volume on the pattern as opposed to the mixer where you had kick?
Nice. Another way to get good low end balance is get the kick hitting -3 on a vu meter then bring up the bass so when they hit together it hits 0 on the vu meter works most of the time.
I like this video so much dude Im not lying it helps me Im just a begginer in music producing and mixxing I swear to god I reccomend you for this video hahahah Thank You So Much if other's dont believe you let them go by their own lol because I see this very helpful :) wish you be a successful producer bro "Do Good Always"
Yo this is a good ass tutorial I’m halfway through n you already showed me so much I needed to know 😂 you actually giving quality information 💪🏽 ima check out ya other videos dawg 💯🙏🏽
I love text book philosophies mixed with experience and creative flavor. Great vid! ps: my dumb ass was using stereo imaging and doing the mono there instead the mixer. lls Also reversing kick polarity is a big key less yours already is.
Jesse Fishman thank you man! Lmao I used to do the same, I literally sat there for 5 minutes in disappointment and anger when I found out you can do it with that little knob lmao! Yes sir! I always flip polarity and see which gives more bass.
Daniel Jacks what’s good! So honestly best bet would be to do some google searching , it’s not something that can be explained in a paragraph. Sound and electricity play a role in it together. It’s very interesting!
Instead of using your channel rack volume pots download Gain12 and put it on your first track inputs to control gain/reduction. And btw, Loving the channel bro. Been producing over 10 years and I still find myself learning new things very frequently. Keep it up.
Doc Kaos815 Beats what's good! Yes sir , sidechaining is always something you can do ! I personally stopped sidechaining just because I didn't find myself in situations where it was necessary anymore. BUT if I'm having an issue Eqing the kick and 808, I will try some sidechaining. Just choose good samples like I mentioned and do whatever sounds good to you man 🙏
awesome! i just switched from back from wack @$$ ableton and learned that this leveling your talkin about here is what they also call "gain staging". you do this way before any effect tweekin. was using a vu meter to get the kick and 808 to sit well and the way you taught seems to work well too. but do you also use a vu meter to gain stage each of your tracks? dope teacher! super easy to understand. thanks for all you do. truly a game changer technique 🙏🏽
CorescopePlays yes, they don't have much stereo information in their sounds, so it's better to leave it in mono to give more room in the stereo for your other drums and melodies.
I understand mixing in mono then putting it back to stereo but what I want to understand you say put kick and 808 to mono so should the kick and bass channel stay in mono at all time even when you turn back the mix to stereo
Very helpful tutorial, but your kick and 808 sounded better before you started mixing than mine after mixing. You explained you had to find good kick and 808 samples, but I can never find them. What drum kit(s) do you recommend I buy to find these good kick/808 samples?
Question: I have a camelcrusher on my 808 channel because I wanted to add distortion, but whenever I add it, it also distorts the kick. I don't necessarily want the kick to be as distorted as the 808. How do I get around this?
LS...1.) I finished mixing this beat and I got my kick and 808 in mono in the mixer. Now I'm about to slap a maximus on it. Do you also put the low end in mono in maximus or am I good cuz I already got the kick and 808 in mono in the mixer?
If you pan your kicks and bass all the way to the right though, won't they only be playing out of one speaker/headphone/earbud ? I'm confused about that part
Munashe Chidhakwa I gain stage everything! Yes sir. As you see when I level the kick, that is the start of the gainstaging. Since the kick is going to be the loudest part of the mix, I set it around -9db so I have headroom
ah, because i get all my sounds to be at around -15db before i touch the mixing leveler in the mixer except my kick which i have at -9db now after watching ur other mixing video. so if i gain stage my kick do i still need to gainstage myy other instruments since it leveling based on my kicking. im asking for how you go about it?
Munashe Chidhakwa basically how I do it, is exactly how I did it in that video bro! I level the kick first (leaving headroom) then I mix the rest of the beat in
Youre getting my subscribe bro! One of the most usefull tutorials i found. But next time make your video not that big because few times it wasn't clear what you were doing because video was covering fl
I nearly closed the vid after that dab in the beginning, but I’m glad I stayed. Good info!
BassickOfficial I apologize... I cringe myself watching this video
lol admitting it is the first step to recovery
it was so bad... but I laughed
BassickOfficial 😂

Thomas Garcia aye! What’s good boss, thank you for watching! Glad I could help you out!
very informative. no side chaining?
sorry didn't see the reply to doc
HiveMind not unless I feel it needs it, but I never side chain honestly
it saved me in one of my first few beats i was doing so i kinda try to make sure i do it. I have noticed now that more beats i do that it really depends on the kick /808 combo and what your trying to do with it. thanks and i love your work! subscribe to my channel if u get the time!

At 5:00,
You adjusted the volume of the kick on the channel and not the Mixer. What's the difference between changing the volume on the pattern as opposed to the mixer where you had kick?
MghUnit407 it’s pre fader, so it will adjust the volume before it hits the plugin chain, so you don’t clip in the plugins
Nice. Another way to get good low end balance is get the kick hitting -3 on a vu meter then bring up the bass so when they hit together it hits 0 on the vu meter works most of the time.
Nice tutorial bro you definitely providing a service. I'll be using this mixing technique in my next beat for sure.

The New Old School you’re welcome!
does this information work with reggaeton?
Yo bro! Nice tutorials and beats. I definitely needed this. Question, are all drum sounds typically mono, like kick clap and hi hats etc?
THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING MAN GREAT TUTORIAL!!!
good job on explaining
Good stuff, thank you!

This is how you earn subscribers, great video keep it up man!
Nick EvRy thank you boss!!
you are a GOD maaaaaaan!
George Zaikov lmao!!! Thank you 🙏
I want to know why lowpass filter creates resonance. Could you explain?
Daniel Jacks what’s good! So honestly best bet would be to do some google searching , it’s not something that can be explained in a paragraph. Sound and electricity play a role in it together. It’s very interesting!

Entertaining and informative. You got my sub.

adapbeats thank you boss! I appreciate it
Good Work Bro, i watching you from Puerto Rico 🎧🔊👍✌💪
thank you!
What are you doing that the audio reactions even react properly on the 808 if the 808 is so low in volume? 🙈
What about sidechaining the 808 and Kick that's what I do now is that OK to do?
Doc Kaos815 Beats what's good! Yes sir , sidechaining is always something you can do ! I personally stopped sidechaining just because I didn't find myself in situations where it was necessary anymore. BUT if I'm having an issue Eqing the kick and 808, I will try some sidechaining. Just choose good samples like I mentioned and do whatever sounds good to you man 🙏
LifeStyleDidIt I see...
there are no rules when creating an art work.
Just gotta be discrete, as you often hear the ducking too well if not the well
Great video 👍
thank you g!

You’re an official Engineer bro. I’m subbing
Cortney Warren thank you for watching!
Thank You!
K-Bolo you’re welcome my G! Thanks for watching
You make that levelling, but the whole song is gonna sound not loud enough. Should I just rely on limiter and turn everything up during the mastering?
yes!
Dang bro no days off lol. Great tutorial and very in depth as always.
btw your hand signals always have me weak lol
Lmao! Trying to go crazy with these tutorials man! Thank you so much
JHilladay Beats lmao! I feel like I talk more with my hands than words bruh.. 😂
can you do a tutorial on which effects you use in the mixer?
yes! mostly just EQ though
Helped ALOT!
Yella Odl glad I could help! Thanks for watching boss
;)
Is this mixing what you do before side chaining the kick and 808? Or does sidechaining give you the same solution??
it is a part of mixing, used to duck a sound when another sound plays
@@LifeStyleDidIt nice! I been fixing some of my projects ever since i watched this video and its helped alot. Thank you
Hahah thank you bro well taught god bless
Son-C good looks g! Thank you for watching and copping the kit!!
Thx man pretty cool tips here keep it up that leveling info was valuable. Do you eq ur 808's?
Blackheep Beats thank you! Yes but (only if the kick is fighting) if they play well, I just level
Good explaining tnx
How can I know that the kic and the 808 gonna fit together ?
Thanks 4 the tuto
just play them together, no FX and see how they compliment each other
Wait so when your done mixing , do you leave them on mono or take mono off (808/kick)?
hang on so you leave your 808s and kicks on mono even when your finished?
CorescopePlays yes, they don't have much stereo information in their sounds, so it's better to leave it in mono to give more room in the stereo for your other drums and melodies.
thanks man!
This shit saved me! My 808 just wasn't sounding good on phones but this seemed to help a lot!
DeanThomasOfficial thanks for watching!
Good shit bro, support from AR
magic thank you my G!
Do you think a distortion plug-in should always be used on 808s?
Great info!!!
thank you!
Can you do a video side chainning the 808 and the kick? Would be so appreciated
I have a few of them!
If you're mixing your drums this low what db should i be mixing my melodies around
I just go off ear
I understand mixing in mono then putting it back to stereo but what I want to understand you say put kick and 808 to mono so should the kick and bass channel stay in mono at all time even when you turn back the mix to stereo
Very helpful tutorial, but your kick and 808 sounded better before you started mixing than mine after mixing. You explained you had to find good kick and 808 samples, but I can never find them. What drum kit(s) do you recommend I buy to find these good kick/808 samples?
Hey! Many people have great kits. The Martianz, Thebeatplug, Superstaro O, Curtiss King, I also have kits on my site!
@@LifeStyleDidIt Thanks LifeStyleDidit, I really appreciate your advice!
Question: I have a camelcrusher on my 808 channel because I wanted to add distortion, but whenever I add it, it also distorts the kick. I don't necessarily want the kick to be as distorted as the 808. How do I get around this?
Is the kick linked to the same channel?
@@LifeStyleDidIt no I have them separate, but I have the kick routed to the 808 track to sidechain the 808 everytime the kick hits.
In which case 8O8's sound more powerful
In playlist/channel rack
(I just want a single note to be played underneath the kick)
Harsh Music it doesn’t matter where you put it on FL
I wish I found your channel 4 years ago bro gyadamn I wasted so much time learning all this shit.
Do you take your kicks out of mono too once your done mixing?
That dab at the intro was fuckin hilarious.
wish I could take it back... haha
I hadda run it back when he dabbed like did he jus do that LMAO
could you just use an 808? without the kick?
if you want yes!
Straight up
What camera do you use? Thanks g i reached out on insta
canon 70d
awesome video

WE ARE AGAINST THE PROGRAM if you already have this kick and 808 in mono, you’re straight
Thank You Helped A lot :)
Kata you’re welcome bro!
a handy trick to prevent kick/808 from clashing: just inverse polarity of either 1 :P
If you pan your kicks and bass all the way to the right though, won't they only be playing out of one speaker/headphone/earbud ? I'm confused about that part
That was the stereo/mono switch bro not the pan switch
@@kyronmcculloch4056 I was actuallly on version 8 and it doesn't really work for mono compatibility for both headphones, if you are on headphones.
Im not too sure tbh bro im still learning myself, but im sure that was the stereo mono and the one above was the left and right pan
Do you not use reverse polarity for ur kick and 808?
Munashe Chidhakwa if the phase needs to be reversed , but you will be able to hear if it needs to be flipped
Do you gain stage ur instruments or you go by ear?
Munashe Chidhakwa I gain stage everything! Yes sir. As you see when I level the kick, that is the start of the gainstaging. Since the kick is going to be the loudest part of the mix, I set it around -9db so I have headroom
