    You were the first person I've ever seen explain / show leveling the way you do with the channel rack and that was something i had never really known or used until now. I saw it in one of your more recent videos but its cool to hear you say it back when you did this!

    That tip of cutting out 30-40 Hz of the kick just took mine to the next level, and I already learn how to make my snares hit harder from you, so my drums are cracking now!

    I have the most annoying problem, when i record a vocal and want to listen back, i have to manualy move the audio file back, its like it wont snap to grid or something! i dont know.. been in contact with fl studio support, ive reaced out to many youtubers, and no one knows...
    its a brand new expensive computer, so its not that...
    can you please help me!!

      it saved me in one of my first few beats i was doing so i kinda try to make sure i do it. I have noticed now that more beats i do that it really depends on the kick /808 combo and what your trying to do with it. thanks and i love your work! subscribe to my channel if u get the time!

    At 5:00,
    You adjusted the volume of the kick on the channel and not the Mixer. What's the difference between changing the volume on the pattern as opposed to the mixer where you had kick?

      MghUnit407 it’s pre fader, so it will adjust the volume before it hits the plugin chain, so you don’t clip in the plugins

    Nice. Another way to get good low end balance is get the kick hitting -3 on a vu meter then bring up the bass so when they hit together it hits 0 on the vu meter works most of the time.

    Instead of using your channel rack volume pots download Gain12 and put it on your first track inputs to control gain/reduction. And btw, Loving the channel bro. Been producing over 10 years and I still find myself learning new things very frequently. Keep it up.

      Doc Kaos815 Beats what's good! Yes sir , sidechaining is always something you can do ! I personally stopped sidechaining just because I didn't find myself in situations where it was necessary anymore. BUT if I'm having an issue Eqing the kick and 808, I will try some sidechaining. Just choose good samples like I mentioned and do whatever sounds good to you man 🙏

    awesome! i just switched from back from wack @$$ ableton and learned that this leveling your talkin about here is what they also call "gain staging". you do this way before any effect tweekin. was using a vu meter to get the kick and 808 to sit well and the way you taught seems to work well too. but do you also use a vu meter to gain stage each of your tracks? dope teacher! super easy to understand. thanks for all you do. truly a game changer technique 🙏🏽

      CorescopePlays yes, they don't have much stereo information in their sounds, so it's better to leave it in mono to give more room in the stereo for your other drums and melodies.

    I understand mixing in mono then putting it back to stereo but what I want to understand you say put kick and 808 to mono so should the kick and bass channel stay in mono at all time even when you turn back the mix to stereo

    Very helpful tutorial, but your kick and 808 sounded better before you started mixing than mine after mixing. You explained you had to find good kick and 808 samples, but I can never find them. What drum kit(s) do you recommend I buy to find these good kick/808 samples?

    Question: I have a camelcrusher on my 808 channel because I wanted to add distortion, but whenever I add it, it also distorts the kick. I don't necessarily want the kick to be as distorted as the 808. How do I get around this?

    LS...1.) I finished mixing this beat and I got my kick and 808 in mono in the mixer. Now I'm about to slap a maximus on it. Do you also put the low end in mono in maximus or am I good cuz I already got the kick and 808 in mono in the mixer?

      Munashe Chidhakwa if the phase needs to be reversed , but you will be able to hear if it needs to be flipped

      Munashe Chidhakwa I gain stage everything! Yes sir. As you see when I level the kick, that is the start of the gainstaging. Since the kick is going to be the loudest part of the mix, I set it around -9db so I have headroom

      ah, because i get all my sounds to be at around -15db before i touch the mixing leveler in the mixer except my kick which i have at -9db now after watching ur other mixing video. so if i gain stage my kick do i still need to gainstage myy other instruments since it leveling based on my kicking. im asking for how you go about it?
