@@AlliMummert Not true. Miley's version featured on The Last Songs soundtrack was released in 2010. Cher's version was released in 2013, three years after Mileys. So in fact Miley is the original singer, but Cher's is the more superior version of the two because of how much more emotion and pain Cher put into hers compared to Mileys.

I love both Miley's and Cher's versions. They both have strong vocals in different ways. Miley's version is having hope for something better and holding no grudges against the former lover. Cher does the same, the only difference being is that the sadness dominates the song and trys the digest it slowly.
CHER is The Greatest accross the board, Artist, Performer, Actress, etc: Not many will ever accomplish all this Gal has accomplished. Go CHER.

Miley’s version is truly beautiful .. and it’s from the perspective of someone very young. A teen experiencing her first heartbreak after falling in love, maybe even for the first time. Her version is actually more hopeful through the pain though because they are still so young and they know they have their whole lives still ahead of them to experience many more great loves in their lives. So, although the goodbye was painful, it’s not the end. Hope for a future filled with love is still very much alive. And knowing that, she’s wishing him all the best, knowing full well they’ll each eventually find someone new to love. Now, Cher’s version, on the other hand, comes from somewhere so deep, so painful, from a much more mature point of view, after living decades and decades of life and love and loss. She knows this feeling. She’s experienced deep committed love, perhaps 20+ years of marriage to the man she’s built a life and family with ..... and then experiences this deep profound loss that “hope” can’t even touch. That’s what I think Cher is singing about. And its why you hear something quite different in her voice compared to Miley’s. It’s so poignant .. you hear all the pain of someone who’s lived a lifetime of love .. and is now experiencing loss, saying goodbye, probably against her wishes, not what she personally wants, yet having no choice, and yet through all the hurt and pain, still wishing him well, all the while realizing that what she’s hoping for him is what they shared together all those 20+ years .. and it’s exactly what she’s now losing. The emotion in Cher’s voice is palpable, especially towards the end of the song, that one verse/chorus when you hear such pain. I personally lived the lyrics of this song. I lived it .. and yes, Cher conveys all the emotion perfectly. It’s almost as if she lived it, too ..💔
