im in ap art as well and im not doing as well as id like. i have about 3 pieces for my portfolio with about a month left..my theme is centered around fascination with the horror genre. i thought itd be easy cause i like horror themes but actually doing the drawings has proven really difficult for me lol...best of luck to you and your works though!! this one came out great!! :D
I'm currently taking ap Art right now! From what I know, for the section for 10 artworks, you can add any progress photos that you believe shows experimenting/your thinking process for your artwork. Be loose with your sketches and honestly try to enjoy what you create! Hopefully this helps a little ^^

Omg I just realized u asked for tips, and I’m not pro BUT I HAVE SOME: Tip 1: u can also submit closeups of pieces ur rlly proud of for the 15 submissions Tip 2: try working with different mediums becuz they like that Tip 3: try to go out of ur comfort zone but still don’t go too far out and be over ambitious cuz it’ll burn u out For the most part just pace urself (I’m not one to talk tho) and u will eventually be done in no time :)
that first tip is actually really smart i like that and im gonna ignore the burnout warning from tip 3 and go all out thank you for the tips tho they all helped!! ::,,DD
Oh my god this reminds me of my a level art external examinations 😭 it’s like a three month project (there’s also a longer personal investigation but that’s like a year long) it’s just three months of just churning out as much polished art, experimentations and testers as you can. We have a final external exam which is 15 hours long and I managed to do 5 A3 paintings in that time it was crazy 😭😭

i regret not taking art this year, it's one of my old hobbies that i want to respark my interest in because as soon as i realized i cant draw anatomy quite good, or color, and the moment i had to do WORK with my art, i burned out really fast. i cant switch but im hoping to take art next year and hopefully i can get int advanced/ap with some time. your theme is so simple yet it feels like it has so much thought. this definitely inspires me to make my own portfolio, for fun, outside of doing art to work. thanks jo :)

Go ham with the progress photos! Although I'd recommend making them look semi aesthetic and give it like a color theme !! When I usually brainstorm my pieces I use it as an opportunity to decide on a color palette and doodle with them! The colors usually give me an emotion to put into the piece like red being passion or anger .. and stick stuff in the spread such as tags or paper :3 to add to the theme.. I'd recommend making your 15 pieces half progress pics and half finished pieces !! :oo

To motivate me to work on my pieces consecutively i often depended on my other AP classes to push the ap art as well!! Like if i know something in AP Bio is really gonna crunch my time for art i try to start way before it or spend as mucn time for art like during lunch or wherever i have nothing to do ...during thr period i actually have ap art i really submerge myself into my work usually lsitening to music to drive me to work on pieces ! If i dont feel like starting or work on a acrual piece i just doodle in my sketchbook for more piece ideas or just to warm up the drawing skills !! Dont stress yourself dear , as a person who took more than one ap class including ap art it is hard work but push through and put your best efforts !!! (I know the portfolio have been submitted but if you do ap art again you can use these ideas!!) I aim to take ap 2d art again!!
photo subbimssiona can make it a lot less stressful if you like to save your details for the final piece! try to get pics of the sketch the line work and the pictures you used as references all on the same pdf and upload that

when I took AP art we had to do 24 fully finished substantially sized pieces 😭😭 idk how I lived through that tbh also I didn't have a theme and just came up with something random at the end and got a 5 so who knows

I’m also in ap art and I focused a lot on nature and I feel like I won’t do as well because it seems like college board likes perspectives and people and faces and emotions and now I’m scared
i ended up making a 4 on my portfolio! i was expecting a 3 so i was p happy about it 😭😭 the class overall was easy, but my teacher didn’t make us start working on our portfolios until around march, so i had to rush it lol. tbh i think the whole “creating art with a consistent theme” thing really wasn’t for me, but i’ve also seen a lotttt of artists thrive under that expectation. i hope the class goes well for you when you take it, good luck!

not necessarily, but the art judges at AP definitely prefer it! if you’re taking the class to get a good score, it wouldn’t hurt to try and learn it, but if not then it doesn’t really matter. The main thing I would focus on is trying all sorts of art mediums for your pieces, AP people like seeing that you can adapt! I ended up with a 4 using mainly a cartoony style and using different mediums. its not a 5, but i was happy!
