I am Norwegian and I was 14 when this happened and I did don leather strips on my wrist at the time. Any chance you'd crush on this dude aged 50? I thought not. But I did look great and cool - once. :-)
I saw them in 1986 on their World Tour. I waited 34 years for them to come back to Australia! Saw them twice in February and they didn’t disappoint. Morten can still hit every note and he has aged beautifully. Brought tears to my eyes when they took to the stage.
I can beat that. I met him in person with his friends in a pub in Hampshire back in the late 90s. Very nice guy and great music. Spent an hour over a pint with him, remember that evening to the day i die.
Morten Harkett is an amazing singer. I've seen him live many times (both with a-ha and as a Solo performer) and he sounds exactly the same live as he does in studio.
Thank you for your reaction! Morten Harket, the lead singer of A-Ha holds two records among male singers, a vocal range up to five octaves and singing one single note for 20,2 seconds (in the song called "Summer Moved On"). The band still exists and has released a lot of albums and great songs since the time Take On Me became a huge hit. It would be cool if you reacted to other A-Ha songs..
On one hand it‘s so 80‘s, the synthetic drums and keyboard, on the other hand, this song is timeless. I didn‘t realize back then how really outstanding his voice is.
Just pronounce it A-Ha, however it comes out it's right, because everybody pronounced it their own way back then. I was in college when this came out, and I remember how cool and innovative this video was back in the day. The song was first released in their home country of Norway in 1984, then was re-released with this new video in the USA about a year later and became a massive world-wide hit. A couple of years later, these guys ended up recording the next James Bond movie theme at the time, The Living Daylights, another good song. After their initial big success here, they kinda faded from the scene in America, but remained a big success in Europe until into the 21st century.
I was thinking how could he have not heard this song?! It was one of the most popular 80s songs! Then I sadly realized I’m older now and not everyone lived in the 80s lol. Whomp whomp.

I have introduced this video to dozens of people over the past 25 years. You, my American cousin, are the first not to get totally blown away by the construction of the video graphics, absolutely defining 25 years ago.
The concept of the video was fascinating in that she was drawn into a comic strip by this attractive guy and lived in it for a while, and she comes back to reality. Then she retrieves to wadded up comic strip from the waist basket, takes it home and the comic character pushes into her house to join her. The VIDEO is what made this a hit record.

So nice to see your reaction to a song I heard back at the release in 1985, been a loyal a-ha fan since! Glad to you like it! "Take on me" by Norwegian a-ha (pronounced just as your regular "a-ha!" in surprise or revelation) was released in 1985 on the third attempt to release it. It was released in a genius planning campaign by Warner Bros, first they wallpapered the entire inner city of New York and also London with giant posters of the boys, published the video and waited for the audience to discover the now classic and groundbreaking video by Steve Barron which it did quite quickly and then, after a month of publishing the video, released the single - it almost went directly to Billboard no 1. It reached 1 billion views here on YT recently! I have seen them live several times, lead singer Morten Harket still has his voice intact, well mostly anyway!
One of the few reactors to be more excited about the "New Wave" music than the video, lol. These guys are Norwegian. I guess they were already really popular there before they made this, which became a huge hit in the US thanks to the super interesting video.
Was this new wave? I associate that with groups like The Police and Blondie or even Sparks (despite being an older band). I believe people called this lots of names, at least here in Sweden. Fjortispop ("fourteens-pop"), tjejpop ("girls-pop"), or just pop, or synth-pop.
@@herrbonk3635 This is synth-pop. They kept using synths for most (though not all) of their career, certainly their guitarist/ principal songwriter plays a MEAN guitar,, but their music quickly matured to the point where "pop" just generally didn't cover all the types of music they produced. I think that's where the New Wave label came from, but they've done some songs I think are straight up rock, too. They're kind of hard to peg.
You are a breathe of fresh air. I've followed you since lockdown and your energy rubs off. I love how you experienced this song!! Its a classic. Thank you for your smiles and enthusiasm. You are a delight.

Someone probably already mentioned this but the end of the music video, when he is in the hallway trying to break out, is based on the movie Altered States (1980) with William Hurt, trippy movie
Agree about that song. Other than this being a great song and music video, a-ha made many more albums, but quit releasing singles in the U.S. "Dark Is The Night For All" is another one of my favorites.
This song and the video came out in 1985. Yes, 1985! The video “wowed” us back then and has stood the test of time. It is still an amazing video even by today’s standards! The tune is catchy and excerpts from the video have been used by MTV and VH1 in their commercials. I am so glad you got the chance to experience it. I wish I could hear it / see it again for the first time....

One of the most underrated 80s bands. "Take On Me" was their first major international hit, but in my opinion "The Sun Always Shines on TV" was their greatest song with an amazing video still holds up today. You need to check it out, you won't be disappointed! A-Ha - The Sun Always Shines on TV
Now you know how I felt when I was 8 and this song broke. And how me and countless others felt when hundreds of great songs came out in the awesome 80’s. Seriously miss those years, it was a lot of fun and we didn’t have cell phones and the internet stealing our childhoods.
'The sun always shines on TV' was the follow up to 'Take on me' ( their 1st single) and got to no 1 in the UK charts. I loved 'Hunting high and low '. Loads of great songs.
The video makes more sense when you know he's saying "I'll be gone in a day or two". So, he's a comic book hero with a crush on the pretty girl reading the magazine. She likes him, too. He comes to life, but only for a day or two, and tries to romance her. I think she's interested. They meet again in another Ah Ha video. Love the synth. Great song.
There was actually a sequel to this song with another video that shows what happened to them after this video ended. "The Sun Always Shines on TV" Its great too.
This song is 40 years old and one of my favorites. The original band and singer sang the song resently look on utube. And his voice is still so beautiful. This is one of many songs I consider the play list of my life
This first album definitely had some catchy pop tunes on it, this song was a big hit. I really liked the second album "Scoundrel Days", it was more of a new wave / alternative album with more instruments added.
I grew up in the 80s, listening to all their greatest hits. They matured into a more rock band, showing their influences by bands like The Doors or Uriah Heep. Between A-ha and Depeche Mode, you gotta love em 80s

They weren't new wave, they were pop music. They had no albums in Norway prior to the release of this one.
A highly admired ground breaking video, and he hardly watched it. At all the key points he had his eyes closed, LOL!
But he's right about how good the song is!
I’m so excited you did this song...I was hoping you would! It’s one of my favorites...I’m always blown away by the vocal range of the lead singer. Loved your reaction! Thanks!
Nice Jay try the sun always shines on TV. My teen years in london this was always playing somewhere. Let yourself Jay foot tapping yet mine is . Great reaction ☺☺💖💕💖
I absolutely love that song!
Someone probably already mentioned this but the end of the music video, when he is in the hallway trying to break out, is based on the movie Altered States (1980) with William Hurt, trippy movie
Now actually watch the video ! Haha 👍
This video is actually a two part video. The second part is the music video "the sun always shines on tv"
The girl in the video was his girlfriend. Another great song by AHA is "The Sun Always shines on TV."
Agree about that song. Other than this being a great song and music video, a-ha made many more albums, but quit releasing singles in the U.S. "Dark Is The Night For All" is another one of my favorites.
She's in the "Your Love" video by The Outfield too.
@@OneEyedJack1970 I neve knew that. I see it now. Thank you!
It's another song. It's not great.
You laugh, I laughed...couldn’t help it! The video was loved everywhere!
Im on a binge of your videos man....the selection you have and taste in music is right on track. The video was crazy , whoever made the video and concept was way ahead of anything at the time. Great channel!
Best song and best video of 1986 😎👍🎶
I loved his reaction,it is a wonderful song. His appreciation of how it was written.Great stuff
Hi, listen to their track Hunting High And Low.
And the album too.
This riff is more contagious than COVID. Once it gets in your head, it stays there.
Bit of a pop classic. One of the best music videos ever as well - 1985 but still looks fresh today
The best🙂! One of my fav songs. Everyday I have to listen it! 😎❤ After "Take on me" comes "The sun always shines on tv". 🙂And another great great songs: You are the one, Cry wolf, Crying in the rain, Hunting high and low, The living daylights,.. hihi😃
No 80s music is complete without Duran Duran. Hungry Like the Wolf was one of their biggest hits.
Oh I loved them
Every Duran Duran song would suit me fine 👌🏻 best band ever and yes I still live in the 80s lol
Wild Boys was my favorite! They were my first real concert at the Worcester Centrum in 1987 for my 12th birthday. LOL
It was a big hit in '85 Jayvee, great reaction! Another big hit of theirs was 'The Sun Always Shines On TV' - it was massive in the clubs.
This song is often used, as the epitome of 80's music.
It's hard not to agree.
I'll never get fed up listening to this one, one of the best songs of the 80s.
Your whole reaction to this song is how I feel every time I hear it. It never gets old. Now you can go check out the unplugged version... Completely different mood, but still amazing.
Their performanCe '89, for Rose Theatre'🇬🇧 eVent, was eXtrORdinay ℹ️🔥!!.,
the sun always shines on tv ,and living a boys adventure tale are also great songs by these guys
Now you know how I felt when I was 8 and this song broke. And how me and countless others felt when hundreds of great songs came out in the awesome 80’s. Seriously miss those years, it was a lot of fun and we didn’t have cell phones and the internet stealing our childhoods.
"The Sun Always Shines on TV" next please.
Another perfect song. I miss the 80s (and 90s) so much, so much incredible music back then.
The Sun Always Shines On TV
The Living Daylights
Other well know and great tracks from A-Ha.
2/3 tracks 🎵., That they *sung ., 1989 'Rose Theatre'🇬🇧 eVent.
Absolute 'Legendary'.!! ℹ️😎
This song was released in 1985! The Singer was Morten Harksen,. The best best falsetto in pop! The band were from Norway!
Another one of those great early 80's club songs to dance to... it was like the European invasion in music during the early 80's.
Another great song from them is James Bond movie’s theme The Living Daylights (1987)
You really need to watch the video, which was ground breaking at the time.
Great song.
No this is from Dead Pool 2 and the girl gets shot.
Yours is the most genuine reaction for this song.. the kick we get at that high note is just glory!!
Absolute 80’s classic!🥰
There was actually a sequel to this song with another video that shows what happened to them after this video ended. "The Sun Always Shines on TV" Its great too.
The video was EVERYTHING for this song and my guy never even saw it?
This song is 40 years old and one of my favorites. The original band and singer sang the song resently look on utube. And his voice is still so beautiful. This is one of many songs I consider the play list of my life
This first album definitely had some catchy pop tunes on it, this song was a big hit. I really liked the second album "Scoundrel Days", it was more of a new wave / alternative album with more instruments added.
Welcome to 1985! I used to play this album and dance in my room for hours! Such a great song/group!
Why alone?🌺
Morten Harket has one of the most beautiful and powerful voices ever.
totally agree!!
I think he deserve more credit !!
The live action and animation mix was so revolutionary at the time. So few people were doing this.
He actually hits those notes when singing live too.
yeah !! still awsome !!
The lead singer I think still holds the record for the longest recorded vocal note.
Great reaction. One of the greatest songs and music videos of all time. Epic ♥
I grew up in the 80s, listening to all their greatest hits.
They matured into a more rock band, showing their influences by bands like The Doors or Uriah Heep.
Between A-ha and Depeche Mode, you gotta love em 80s
Loved your reaction to this! ❤️ Have you listened to Blondie "Heart of Glass" or "Atomic" "Call me" etc etc etc? xo
I’ve done heart of glass a week or so ago
@@JayveeTV cool! I must have missed it! Sending hugs xo
I never ever - ever never never will get bored with this song! I've loved it since 1985 and today it still sounds new. Every time I listen to their music (huge catalogue BTW!!) I sort of fall in love ... 😍. A-ha u-huh!!
