  • FULL DETAIL Discovery 3 / LR3 Rear brake rebuild. In part five of this rebuild we look at replacing the left right brake caliper with a brand new one from Bearmach. The old original one has done it's part as it has been on the car for 13 years.
    With the right side already replaced this is the last job before airing out the system and then get started on sorting out the EPB-module.

    Welcome to the zero faults series and the Project Discovery overland build series. Before I start adding mods like roof rack, rock sliders, lights and so on, I want to reset the car and get all faults cleared away. And first of is a full brake replacement starting with front brake discs an pads in full details.
    There are 2 major and some minor faults with the car at this point. The major ones are the EPB/handbrake module that has jammed on and the EGR-valves not closing. These are throwing an error and need to be fixed togheter with new brakes discs and pads all around before the MOT in June. About two months from this point in time.
    This reset series will end up in the EGR-replacement video and concluding with a MOT test day video.

    You are creating an invaluable guide for Discovery owners world wide. You are a rival to Atlantic British videos. 👍🏻🙏🏽😷🦘

      Wow, thank you! 🙂 That means a lot. Atlantic British is great and I'm not trying to compete. I have changed from making "How to" to "This is how I did it" - Since I'm not a mechanic and I don't have to be 100% after the book correct. 😅 Try to include what I have picked up from others and what I self have found to be smart. Thanks again, Cheers! 👍

    Yeah, those copper washers get pretty squashed in!
    Lovely camera work and oh boy, why can I never buy a used car after someone like you lol!
    God helg!

      I know, right, and a bit more on the left. I think I had a small leak there after I did the upper control arm change and I changed the hoses at the same time. I asked for a brake test at the garage and I think they have tightening it then. But lesson learned to next time. But with new washers I just set it to the correct Nm spec and it was sealed. Maybe the old caliper was the fault last time. 👍🙂. Thank you fro the nice feedback. Glad you noticed. Takes a bit of time to edit due to the different angles. God helg, hope it's a good one. 👍

      @@LandRoverDrive It happens with the washer on the sump too.
      Folks don't buy new ones and the sump plug gets tighter and tighter each time the oil is changed because the soft metal is compressed.
      No wonder you can buy kits to fix stripped out sump plug threads!
      The irony is that the washers cost pennies...

      Thank you. No I was a bit surprised my self and with the brake fluid running I got a bit stressed as I did not have any spare fluid lying around. 🙂👍

    One tip i would give is not to push that old fluid back into the abs pump it could be an expensive mistake. I always open the bleed nipple so you push the old fluid out. The only time I wouldn't do it is if it looks like the bleed nipple could break but as you were changing the calipers anyway this wouldn't be a problem.

      I totally agree and will definitely do that from now on. A great tip, thank you! 👍😊 I should probably also change out the break fluid more often too. 😅

    EBC brakes are the best.

      EBC has proven to be great and I would definitely recommend them as a alternative to the original ones.

    I feel like because you was changing the caliper it was pointless winding it in 🤷‍♂️

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  Год назад +1

      Very true! 👍😊 The thought was to save brake fluid by pressing it back into the reservoir. I don’t think I had a lot on hand at the moment of replacement. But pressing back the oil is a bad habit as has been pointed out by another comment. Better to bleed out the old oil instead. 😊 And especially when replacing from old to new calipers. I’m up for a full brake fluid change this summer. 👍

    you' re using a butcher hook ??

    • @LandRoverDrive
      @LandRoverDrive  2 года назад

      Yeah, that's correct, I'm a hunter but these hooks are actually my friend Thomas who left behind after he had a Nordic Roe hanging in my garage. I just found them to be perfect for a brake job. 👍🙂
