Bought in Belize in 1989 as a second home .Started in Orange Walk Town and ended up in the twin cities area near Mennonite country. Was not great by good for a few years, then the whole place turned around. Government went from helping us to having their hands out to get even the most simple of permits issued. Then the drugs started to be a problem along with them came the problems at the Guat. border, the lack of reliable electric service , the local officials wanting their cut. Stayed and fought the system and the drugs for 10 years and walked away from everything we had built as we could see what was coming. Still have many friends in country both Belize natives and UK and US citizens. I read both papers and listen to LOVE radio everyday and see that it is only getting worse. My 2 cents is be CAREFUL in Belize no matter if on vacation or living as it is only time that you will also be put in a bad situitation.
Thank you for all of your great videos. My wife are moving to Belize in 2 weeks and I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Just wanted to say thanks for you perspective on things.
I own 23 acres of farm land in Belize. Nevertheless, my husband and I will be living nearest the Caribbean Sea as our transitional HOME, and WE have all intention of owning multiple properties inside the JEWEL. Why? Because it is very common inside Belize to own multiple properties. That's why. In other words, it is NO BIG DEAL.
Good points made. We purchased land and got the title in 10 months. I agree that we have never experienced racism in Belize. We will start our house build very soon. Thanks for your video.
Hi, thanks for watching and thanks for your honest content on your channel.... yes I watch you guys. Enjoy Placencia we lived in Maya for 1 year. Maybe we will run into each other one day...😁😁😁
LoL....Hey Michael. You always put out the accurate videos. Btw, I know EXACTLY what video you were referring to with regards to the misinformation that was put out there regarding Belize. I had just watched it before seeing yours. My wife and I still have a home in Venice, FL. We have property in Corozal that we bought a couple years ago, but we'll be living in the Cayo district for roughly two years while our home is being built. I'm sure I'll get to meet you sometime soon. Keep up the great content.
Hi, thanks for watching the channel. We hope you get some real information from them. If we can answer any questions just send us an email.😁 I used to fish at the inlet in Vence when I was young.. Small world...
Don't forget that you have 2 feet to WALK AWAY from any situation that you're confronted with in Belize. Don't forget that the U.S. EMBASSY is located in Belmopan, Belize, for you to lodge your COMPLAINTS, because they will offer assessment & assistance. Don't forget that top notch LAW FIRMS are established in Belize, and they really do specialize in LANDS & CONVEYANCE...including FAMILY LAW. That is correct. So the truth of the matter is that you have absolutely NO lame EXCUSES.about your sojourn inside Belize, or your encounter with any Belizean Citizen. Period.
Correct! The jungle sure wants to grow. I have 65 acres. Unless you want to have a staff of bush choppers, get a smaller piece of property. It is not something you will be able to do yourself unless you get a smaller piece of property.
It was a long slog. My Canadian bank didn't want me to buy the property. They didn't want to send funds over to me. First 2 realtors were scam artists. I finally closed on the property. Now comes the hard part. Building a reputable garden nursery company in Burrel Boom.
Suffered the same fate living in Belize...... paid 21,000 bz to a lady for land and she disappeared to the US..... so I placed a caution on the land so thay no one can build on the land or sell the land .... however, system is corrupt as ever.... who can we trust in Belize... I went to the Poloce station to rèport the matter and the threats I received.... the officer asked me my age and then suggested that I was just being paranoid
I have to disagree. I’ve had my property for 14 years and being scammed happens a lot more than you realize. There’s a group of realtors, contractors, etc. that have scammed people there for years. I could go on the huge story of our experience as well as many others we’ve met over the years, but there’s not enough room here for that. Buyer beware. Do your homework and realize that in some cases, this is a business model for them and they’re very good at what they do. Choose your friends wisely. As you said before, Belize is not for everyone. It can be an amazing place to live, but you really should rent for at least six months or more first. It allows you to learn all those things that you do not know when you first get here. This will help you avoid some of the issues that many have gone through.
We are coming to Placencia and have been a couple of times, but we are coming on the fifth to look at houses. Do you know of any good realtors around that area?
Why are you fighting with the vegetation, and how fast things grow in Belize? Why aren't you hiring WORKERS to do these JOBS for you? Do you realize that Central America has all the WORKERS you need...at a fraction of the cost in the USA. I think it's SHAMEFUL that you are doing ALL that WORK yourself...while depriving the LOCALS of a weekly paycheck. That's all.
You guys are weird. A french national was telling me his story. And my thought was, this man has money to waste and trust strangers with his money. He showed me an email from a woman in Belize reassuring him that she has her PHD (and doesn't want to taint her image) and is trustworthy and isn't here to scam him (I kinda judged her based in her English) . Anyway, the French man has never visited Belize but was buying land in the country through a third party - something i discourage you do. Because it wasn't my job to dig into his case, but i advsied him to visit the country and do his own paperwork. We were conversing via email. P.s. some police officers are big scammers
