It's in excellent condition considering that it's over 75 years old -- no rust, discoloration or pitting on this particular piece. The engineering, machining and fit & finish that went into these guns is nothing short of amazing. Also, these guns had a very high rate of fire -- up to 1600 rounds per minute (3200 rounds per minute as a pair).
@@freddykisback123 They were primarily flexible aircraft guns. After rifle caliber flexible machine guns became obsolete, now surplus MG-81s were turned into ground-use guns towards the end of the war. They're not as good as true designed-for-the-purpose ground machine guns because of excessive ammunition use (hard to keep fed) and shorter less-accurate barrels. I'm not sure if they even have quick change barrels. The basic design of the internal mechanism is from the MG34, and hence expensive to manufacture.
Hello, does anyone know what the curved steel sections that run from the middle of the machine guns to the outside are used for? Are they for the spent cartridges to escape from? You can see them clearly at 3.13 many thanks
Very impressive piece of history. It looks to be in remarkably good condition.

@@maxfaxdude 3200 Both guns combined. It's closer to 1600 rpm (per gun).

That looks brand spanking new. Amazing.
When one barrel does not emphasize "F*CK OFF!" enough 🤣🤣🤣..
I wish there was more videos about this cool gun (or guns apparently)
I will post a high quality video firing this gun at the next Big Sandy Machinegun Shoot in October.

Absolutely beautiful rig!! Would be my bucket list gun for helicopter hog hunt
Beautiful piece of machinery
I need this for home protection
I had a idea of a fiction machine gun called mg31 and this was the design base the mg81 but with out the muzzle flash system and a 2 mag design
Die filigrane Technik für diese Zeit ist echt faszinierend, aber so sind wir Deutschen halt. Ich hätte sie gern mal beim schießen erlebt🙂
Its weight of volumetric fire must be impressive.
A real beauty

1600 RPM x2 guns = 3200 RPM. Holly Fuck.
Can I get one of those adapters made for mine. Shot off a AA mount it fell over. Show a video shooting.. Ed A
The mount show here was custom made by the previous owner who was a machinist. I can send you some close up photos if you want to see how it is made.
