- This short slideshow shows an above view of how my garden has matured over the last 11 years. The first picture is how the garden looked when we purchased the house in Autumn 2009(Rubbish was left behind by previous owner). The following pictures were taken in the Autumns’ of each following year and shows just how much the canopy has filled out from Autumn 2009-Autumn 2020.

One of the finest achievements in that sized space that I’m aware of. An ecosystem unto itself. Lush, lovely and tropical!
🙏 Thank you! I always try and garden with wildlife in mind.
It's fantastic to see the development over the years. What a journey and an amazing achievement with such a space.
What an amazing transformation! Your garden is absolutely beautiful! 🌴
After seeing your garden on gardeners world a few years ago, then on u tube, that inspired me to create my own tropical garden, now in its 4th year. I'm so pleased with the results so far, I'm constantly learning and improving. Recently opened it up for a local charity event and raised £400 over 2 days. I still think your garden is one of the best, with its fantastic range of plants and the way you have put them together. Thank you for sharing your journey.
It’s all about that T-Rex 😍 Great work!
?
@@Fdeubcfhbbjhfd The Tetrapanax plant with the massive leaves, they’re known as T-Rex 👍
🙏 Thank you! The Tetrapanax sends out suckers EVERYWHERE so it would take over the garden if I didn’t keep control of it and pull them out!
The amount of love and care, thoughtful planning and placing of plants is astonishing. Loved seeing it from the beginning. All the hard landscaping to get the water features in…. such a lot of hard work and I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of time and energy that went into sourcing each plant, never mind the cost. You are a true ‘foliar artist’ and I am in awe of your dedication, skill and plant knowledge.
That tetrapanx is magnificent! Amazing garden
Wow you have paradise in your garden...unbelievable❤️👍🏻
This is the dream, absolutely amazing work. Glad I've found your channel. 🌿
Absolutely love your garden. Thank you for sharing
You are a big inspection to lot of people who love plants but don't know how , were and when to start . I can see the effort and passion and love that has gone into your garden🙏 lot's of love from India 🙏
Incredible! your garden is my inspiration in Patagonia Argentina
I am floored! You are Blessed! :)
Awesome transformation am so envious, keep safe👏
Incredible Steve, it has been an amazing transformation!
Fantastic achievement!!
That’s truly amazing love it!....
Wowser, that's amazing.
Your garden is just beautiful!!! I didn’t realise how small it was, gives me hope for my small plot.
That is just totally amazing. Im in awe. Im pretty sure that all ‘tropical garden lovers’ would give their right arm for your garden. Your skill at putting it all together is awesome. I would love to know more about your journey and what were the ups and downs of your garden. You must be a bit of a slave to it though, for it to look so pristine. But if you enjoy it, it wont be a chore. I do hope you sit back and just enjoy it sometimes too though!
Hi Vics Tee, sorry for the delay in replying. Thank you for your comments. I normally have a good tidy up and preening session before I do a video so I can’t really say that it looks spotless all the time. I used to be a slave to the garden but only since I started having an open day. I enjoyed the work but it was stressful getting it ready as I have very high standards and worry about things that visitors wouldn’t even notice. Now there a good hardy backbone of plants my work has got a lot easier. Most of the plants I grow are hardy in most of our winters here so they just come back up in spring with no interference from me.
Here is a link to the early days of the garden. I hope you enjoy: www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=135&t=15027
The neighbours must be jealous of your fabulous garden, I know I am.
I was just thinking the same!....
🙏They have children Bryan, I don’t. The garden is my playground. Their gardens are football pitches!😁 I’d probably do things the same if I did have children. I had a visitor once say that she wished she was 4 years old again so that she could run around the garden and see it through a child’s eyes.☺️
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho ficou maravilhoso lindo demais o seu jardim❤❤
Beautiful& looking at your earlier years gives me a bit of faith that it won't take forever, just wish I could put my stuff into the earth but we rent 😐
Oh my god 😂 imagine being a neighbour in those barren gardens next to a bloomin rainforest!! 😅 Christ. I’m overwhelmed. Feels so huge and yet is crammed into a standard, very modest plot! Just goes to show what you can do with expertise and innovation.
Hi dreamer, thank you for your comments! The garden is about the size of a tennis court. My neighbours both have children and their gardens need to have space for football. I don’t have any children so it only needs to please me and my partner. Well mainly me really 😁
simplesmente espectacular
Very nice and new subscriber 👍🇨🇦🌴
Tanamannya rimbun hijau segar, indah sekali...
Apaan sih Bun, dia mana ngerti.. hehe..
Steve,
This is easily the finest tropical garden I've come across. Either by video or in person. My wife and I have just started our new landscaping in our back yard and as others have asked, have you done a video identifying all the plants in your garden? We would greatly appreciative if you could do a narrated version of the video or possibly list the plants for others to research on there own.
Remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Charlie and L,
Carlsbad Ca. USA
Thank you
Hi Charlie, thank you so much for your comments 🙏 I have hundreds of plants in the garden so to do a video naming them all would take hours!😆 I am hoping to get a list together of what I grow but it will take time. I’m no good with editing or adding things to videos so I just do a walk through of the garden and that’s it. I upload these videos to help me remember what I’ve done each year and how the garden is maturing. I never in a million years, thought that people would watch them so much OR get inspiration from them. What I may do in future is do shorter videos of each part of the garden and describe and name the plants and my thoughts as to how I put the garden together.
@@Springyfeller That would be great. Just a list. Every time we see something we would like to plant we have a difficult time identifying it.
We are doing our our best to have our own private peice of paradise much like yours.
Thank you again,
Charlie
JUST a list Charlie!!! 😂 I’ve probably got at least 30-50 new plants to put in this spring/summer that’s without what’s already in there! 😂 I’m not sure how much of it you will be able to find where you live Charlie. I’ll see what I can do!👍
Do you have a list of plants?
Looks GREAT!!!
Any 2021 update video(s) on the way? Used your videos to help me plan a garden overhaul this year 👍🏻 🌴
It's impressive, well done. Can you share the names of some of those frost resistant palms?
Beautiful garden!!!!!!! Im a new gardener and wanted a sub tropical garden in Greece. What plants would you recommend to start with that take most space?
Amazing have you a plant list for the canopy plants you used?
Your videos are just inspirational to what can be achieved with fore-thought and talent. Can you please tell me what that tree is in right frame at 0:55?
Thank you🙏 The tree is Tetrapanax papyrifer ‘Rex’
Awesome transformation!! You have got such a beautiful garden 🌴🌴 . What is the size of the garden in sqft or yards?
Hi Lucy, thank you for your comments 🙏 It’s approximately 78ft long and 24ft wide. I always say that it’s about the size of a tennis court.
Incredible. What is the giant leaf tree/plant at 1:21 in center frame?
Thanks Joel🙏 The plant is Tetrapanax papyrifer’Rex’
❤️🍹
Amazing garden mate, can I ask the tree near the T-rex is it an Acacia Dealbata or an Albizia?
Hi Chris, thank you for your kind words!🙏 It’s an Albizia. I wouldn’t recommend planting one over a patio though as they are SOOOOOOO messy! I had to plant mine near the house as to make the use of the shelter and microclimate that the house provides.
Hi Steve, We’re starting from a blank sheet. Could you help with our garden please. We’re in Harrow, just off A40
Hello Mahesh, what sort of help are you looking for. I can help to a certain extent I expect.
@@Springyfeller Hi Steve, Thanks for getting back. I’m into aquariums and koi keeping, but know very little about plants. I have an empty garden and would like to create an evergreen low-maintenance jungle set-up and hidden seating like what you have created. So would like to know about the right plants and placements. My number is on my last uploaded video. If you’re able to msg , then i can show the place
Hi Mahesh, I’m into aquariums too!👍 I’ve got a marine reef tank full of soft corals and anemones/fish😁
When I first started out I read a book called COLLINS practical gardener - ARCHITECTURAL PLANTS (what to grow - how to grow it) by Christine Shaw. I purchased most of the plants in that book over the time.
If you are on Twitter, you can follow me @springy_steve BUT I don’t just post about gardening. 🦔
@@Springyfeller Hi Steve, Good to hear. Will keep in touch
How many houses have you got? This isn't the one where you explained how to grow big colocasias...
I think you are mistaking me and my garden for someone else’s. I’ve never explained how to grow big colocasias.
