Observation tower: has a huge sombrero Pets: have their own toilet Random ram statue: *just a random ram statue* There's so much for the mind to take in at that place...they probably had a conversation of "How much do you want at this roadside attraction?" *"Yes."* ...and I find it hilarious how a place as Mexican as that has *ONE* lone Mexican flag compared to all the American flags at 5:51
I am loving that Sam is getting to see a glimpse of America. I hope you both can experience things you've never done. So glad to be tagging along. I'm super enthused!!!
Welcome to my home state of Virginia!! Sorry about the gloomy weather. Hopefully it clears up while you're still here. My dad and I were just at South of the Border last Friday! We were just passing through on our way to a huge classic car show in Myrtle Beach that we go to every year. And we even stopped at the same rest stop at the Virginia state line just a few days ago on our way home! We just missed you!! Darn it! Anyway, have a great rest of your road trip! 😀
Omg I love you guys! I love your selections of songs from disney to phantom of the Opera. It's like my wife and I! Can't wait to see where you guys will head next! You should come visit Pennsylvania! 😁
Years ago we stayed there with our 4 children on the way to Disney World. The kids loved the indoor pool & of course the signs along the highway drew you in This was in the early 70s when Disney first opened & South of the Border was in much better condition.
Yea see back in the 70s I’d imagine, and even 80s, roadside motels like this were nice and family friendly. It was a different time. Must be such lovely memories.
You guys are like me. I adore kitschy vintage roadside attractions. I can’t wait to stop by on my way to South Carolina to get some pics & wonderfully cheesy souvenirs! So glad you appreciate that stuff too!
I love a cheesy gift shop, South of the Border looks awesome! Wondering what Sam thinks of seeing so much of America and driving so far. I know a long distance in the UK is having to drive 2 or 3 hours, what a shock the size of America must be!
Welcome to Virginia! I'm super excited about this! Born and raised here, I'd never dream I might have the opportunity to meet up with you... now, I have high hopes!!! I'm right on the Virginia/Tennessee line! You should really check that out! On State Street in Bristol, you can stand in the middle of the street & be half in VA AND half in TN!!😉 I hope y'all enjoy & I'll keep my fingers crossed to run into y'all!! Talk about SUPER ENTHUSED?!?!☺️
Born and raised in SWVA myself, I’m in Kingsport, TN now but totally think East Tennessee has tons to offer for a road trip!!! Bristol is so interesting with lots of history and then on down to Pigeon Forge-Gatlinburg for Dollywood and the Smokies!
Loving You and Sam on a road trip, you make me smile. You are having fun while traveling like it is meant to be !! Stopping and getting to see things like gift shops and restaurants and other tourisy attractions ! The Pedro head was funny. I might of been tempted to buy him. I hope you get to eat at a nicer restaurant. You are such a cute couple.
Wow, south of the boarder…. I haven’t been there in 30+ years! Looks the same! I remember the fireworks and gift shops. Places like Buc-Ee’s will put them out of business.
Jackie and Sam following your travels. Very interesting Thank You for sharing. South of the Border is HUGE. You were both the VIP's of South of the Border.
Only Jackie’s eternal good spirits could have made SOTB entertaining LOL! It was like watching one of those abandoned mall videos, but way more upbeat. Sam my friend, tell the truth, you never expected to see anything like it did you?! It’s pure American tat at its zenith! I loved every second of this. So glad you’re doing Busch Gardens Williamsburg!
South of the border is such an iconic stop for our family just to take pics!! Thank you so much for bringing us along our your road trip and looking forward to more adventures with you both!!
I'm super enthused about the jammin' Disney tunes in the car! My parents are from NY and I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, so we drove I-95 to NY many times in my childhood, and would pretty much always stop at South of the Border. Great memories!
My family and I stayed at he motel when I was a child in the seventies.we stopped there because of all the amazing billboards we saw. We absolutely loved it.
I am glad you stopped at South of the Border. We always stopped there on our road trips in the 1990's. One time we got to go up in sombrero. We even stayed at a motel there that had a waterbed. One year coming to Florida from Maryland we had a reservation at the Days Inn across the highway and there was such a bad snowstorm everyone was trying to get off. A lot of people were sliding off the exit ramp, including a young family who were Army and on their way to a new station in Florida. Their U-Haul had gone off the exit into a ditch and they couldn't find a room, so we invited them to share our room. Their son and ours played together and slept on the floor while us parents took the beds. We were stuck there for a couple of days because of the snow and lack of removal. That was a trip we will never forget!
I've been there 3 times: in the late 70s/early 1980s as a kid with my parents on a road trip, in 2007 on a roadtrip vacation to the Florida Keys, and last week coming back from a photography job. With your video, I can explore it again! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video, brought back a lot of memories. I remember when South of the Border used to be packed with people lol 😆 Praying for yall safe travels
You and Sam are hitting all our old stomping grounds.....South of the Border.....Williamsburg......Thank you for making us smile. Wishing you a wonderful vacation!! We are enjoying it as much as you are!!!!
Great video guys. Blenheim Ginger Ale started in the town of Blenheim, SC (25 miles west of South of the Border). The company dates back to 1903. In 1993 Blenheim Ginger Ale was acquired by the owners of South of the Border. Soon after they move the bottling operation to a new facility on the South of the Border complex.
Hi there, great to see your journey continue to Virginia :) Fascinating to hear how South of the Border came about & that it was the place to get Beer!!! I can see why it was very popular :) ha ha ha ! Oh my that merch is so quirky!!! xx
Hi Jackie and Sam. If you ever get a Chair like the one at Hotel Room than Sam should get a paper crown to wear. Loving the Road Trip so far. Rain is better than Freezing Rain or Snow. Hope the weather gets better. Keep on having FUN.
I always saw these signs as a kid as any trip we took on I-95. I live on the coast of nc and I remember as a kid my father stopping us there and it was “larger than life “ to me! I went as an adult and was like “ really”? Lol it’s charming though and I love that you appreciate the nostalgia of it all! You are an old soul IMO 🙋🏻☀️💕Also, Interesting fun fact is I was a very small child on the first opening of Disney and we went there! We stayed at contemporary and I have loved Disney ever since ! 👩🏻♥️
South of the Border has to be one of the weirdest roadside....attractions ever. Stopped by during Spring Break 1986 and was not impressed. Glad you got to check it out. Thanks for taking us along. : -)
"Sticks of dynamite" was on the list of fireworks they don't sell lol. Amazing how big that SOTB complex is now. Have not been in many years. How cool and vintage.
Every year as a kid we would go to Myrtle Beach, SC (from PA) for a week in the summer and I always remember that once we saw the South of the Border signs we didn't have long until we were at the beach. :) Edit; Omggg yes cookout is a must. I live for their cheerwine floats.
We actually had to stay at South of the Border years ago on our way home from Disney when a hurricane hit North Carolina. Williamsburg is one of my favorite places to visit. Make sure you eat at one of the Taverns it’s delicious.
Have passed this attraction over a dozen times driving up and down the east coast. Never had a chance to visit, but this video is a perfect way to cure my curiosity. Thank you!
My favorite video so far. You and Sam are like me and my husband 23 years ago and still now. We love our road trips. We have 3 granddaughters and listen to Disney all the time. Even when they aren’t with us
Fun fact from Virginia… “Virginia Is For Lovers” does not mean what most people think it means. It means that Virginia is for lovers of things (like activities). Virginia has so much to offer, so, Virginia is for lovers of the beach or ocean, or, the mountains, or, parks, or, skiing, or, golfing, or, wineries… I could go on all night. You get the point. Have fun and enjoy The Commonwealth of Virginia! It is truly one of the greatest states in America!
South of the Border is in better shape today than I remember. I love the amount of Billboards for that place and the counting down of the miles till you get there. A road trip up or down I95 is a must do! 😎👍🏻
I have been to South of the border a few times on road trips but it’s been a while since i have been there, I see some changes. I Definitely remember going into the fireworks store. I enjoyed this vlog! Safe travels ❤️
When you left Florida and said you were going North, I just had a feeling you were heading to Busch Gardens. Lots of great coasters there. I think Apollo’s Chariot is the best. Alpengeist is very good too. The Loch Ness monster is a classic. One of the best stomach drop hills for me anywhere for some reason. You do get banged around a little and the loops are a little tight even though they appear big. Invadr is a great compact metal/wooden hybrid coaster. The food is solid throughout the park. Shops are very nice. It is just a very beautiful park. Don’t wear slippy shoes as it may be wet tomorrow and some of the walkways are a little hilly. Enjoy. You are in Maxwell House country.
Albanese gummy bears are the only ones I'll eat! Packed some for our road trip tomorrow. Watching your video while I pack. You got me even more excited. Safe travels!
Oh my gosh. I am such a nerd. I teared up when you showed the sign for Williamsburg. I spent all of my preteen and teen summers there visiting my grandparents! I had a feeling you guys were headed there. Enjoy Busch Gardens and I hope you'll get to go to Colonial Williamsburg, it is always a must for me. It never gets old to me
A little ginger goes a long way!! Someone did a video of the South of the Border including staying overnight in the motel there. They never explained why it was called South of the Border and you did it in a few seconds. They ate at that steakhouse and did that reptile room that was closed too. Thanks for the video of your trip; great stuff.
Jackie!! You are making me crave gummy bears! Fun vlog although South of the Border is a shadow of what it once was. Like the one handed t-Rex, it’s def seen better days!
Ok - since I’m from NC, I consider myself a Cook-Out connoisseur 😆, I def would’ve love to give you some pointers for next time. First off - Cajun seasoning, always Cajun seasoning on your fries and your burgers and even your grilled chicken sandwiches! The double burger is not the same as their regular burgers, the meat on the reg burgers is fresher, the double burger patties I think come in frozen. Their grilled chicken sandwiches are really delicious especially w/ the right toppings, and one of my favorites is the BBQ sandwich w/ slaw, very much Carolina style, with hush puppies and Cajun fries, it’s always the way to go! 😁👏❤️🥤🍔🍟 Looking forward to the rest of this trip!!!
I love cookout! I’ll definitely try the chicken next time I’m there. I will say the one that just opened near me in VA is not as good as the ones in the Carolinas (at least I don’t think so)!
Omg I wish we knew these tips before!! Next time I am going to take all of this advice and for sure get the grilled chicken! Thank u girl you’re the best!
@@SuperEnthused Real chicken with a big old slice of tomato, lettuce, onion, mayo and Cajun seasoning is my favorite. But they also have this really good honey mustard they put on the grilled chicken sandwiches / that’s good too. Or bacon!!! Their bacon they have is good! Also - you gotta hit up Bojangles and Biscuitville too!
At Hot Tamale, my favourite food was the hard taco. It was BIG and the shell *(the hard shell) had a neat and unusual flavour. The reptile museum building was my favourite-it was only $8, and there were all kinds of snakes, lizards, turtles and alligators/crocodiles!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Haven’t been to SOB since 2014 and was really hoping it survived the pandemic! I was so happy to see it’s still going I almost cried.
What a fun video. Enjoy watching you guys along the way. Can’t wait to see your stops and destinations. I hope it’s Colonial Williamsburg!! Love that place. Thanks for taking us along
We LOVE South of the Border! We have an RV and the campground there is super nice. It's a great stopping off point for northerners going to and from Florida. Last time we were there we were able to go up in the Sombrero - quite the view of I-95. We'll be there again in a few weeks!
I always enjoy watching your videos and I have to thank you for bringing us along. I love road trips! I grew up in the US, but I have been stationed on an island for 20 years and there is no such thing as a road trip here, so when We save enough to get back to America with our 5 children we live it up!! And the previous 2 years since airfare was so more reasonable we went and such memorable road trips during our vacation time. But this year I don’t think we will be able to due to the cost. So your road trips are really lifting my spirits and I feel like I am right with you and Sam. Thanks again!!! 💕💕

South of the Border used to have a wild mouse coaster, too, but it was demolished years ago.
Super fun trip, Jackie and Sam!

I love ginger ale I’m going to have to try that!!
Pennsylvania Hershey Park and Knoebels. A MUST
I gotta admit Jackie you’ve got very good taste in Music. Heard lots of good songs on that Road trip of yours. Hope you had a lot of fun 🙂

So true! Eating road side or packing food is so nostalgic!
Have you had the sweet tea at home comin'? It's perfection!
Yes so good!!
We actually had to stay at South of the Border years ago on our way home from Disney when a hurricane hit North Carolina. Williamsburg is one of my favorite places to visit. Make sure you eat at one of the Taverns it’s delicious.
Just love your road trip music. From the clips you shared, it's seems like a great mix.
Have passed this attraction over a dozen times driving up and down the east coast. Never had a chance to visit, but this video is a perfect way to cure my curiosity. Thank you!
My first job was at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. I worked in the lladro gift shop in Italy. I rode the Lochness Monster a ton that summer.
My favorite video so far. You and Sam are like me and my husband 23 years ago and still now. We love our road trips. We have 3 granddaughters and listen to Disney all the time. Even when they aren’t with us

I'm enjoying your vacation trip😊👍👍
Yay I’m so glad, Maria!
Thanks for taking us along
this makes me smile seeing you and sam so happy!!!! looks like the south of the border was fun!
🥰🥰🥰
We LOVE South of the Border! We have an RV and the campground there is super nice. It's a great stopping off point for northerners going to and from Florida. Last time we were there we were able to go up in the Sombrero - quite the view of I-95. We'll be there again in a few weeks!
Pantheon is awesome!!!! You’ll have a great time!
⚡️⚡️⚡️
Girl I can not believe you went to my family’s home town of lumberton!! I hope you enjoyed the south!!
This was fun! I love seeing the fun you two have together. On long car journeys we always have Disney sing-along-songs on too! : )
South of the Border! Your video makes it look so intriguing. Now I want to go!!
When she gets back to Florida Jackie will be doing Harmonious in her backyard. I was hoping you would find the Adam The Woo sticker.
😹😹😹 oh man I wish!! Those fireworks were amazing!!
