      Hey guys would you be able to do a video about timing the 4 step approach and swing? So you don’t hit the ball too early or late. Cheers!

    Wow this makes soo much more sense! I’ll have to give it a try. I’ve struggled a bunch with finding my distance for approaching correctly. I feel confident this will help me get my sweet spot figured out. 😎👌 thanks for the tips!

    I’m 5’ 3 and 3/4 (don’t rob me if that 3/4, lol) and this video is really helpful to figure out my approach! Is there a video on how far sets should be from the net for different height? I was told sets off of the net is better for us shorties.

    • @betteratbeachvolleyball
      @betteratbeachvolleyball  3 года назад +1

      Really glad you found it helpful!! If you cannot reach over the top of the net when you jump, you might do better with sets a little off the net - everyone has their own personal preference when it comes to what set you like though, and the best way to find out where you want your set is to simply try out a bunch of different ones. If you don't play with a consistent setter, you can just have some toss for you to hit off of and see what works best for you! We also have a TON of attacking videos in our Online Coaching Program, The Elite Performers Tribe (www.betteratbeach.com/coaching). We take you through the basics and then work all the way up to advanced tactics and swing selection to keep the defense on their heels!

    I think knowing where to start my approach is key to consistent hitting. If I had to record myself I'll bet that I've never been in the best spot to start my approach and either get under it because I'm early or start too far back and I'm late. Need to be consistent with that sweet spot.

      Brendan knows this answer well, as we both are GMU Alumni. As with indoor ball..generally speaking, if a hitter complains to the setter more than once..don't expect any more sets. We had a four year All American setter and learned that it was better to adjust to the set..than to never get another one:)

Also, what are the easiest corrections to say the most common three things that keep an advance beginner hitter with low power to getting to intermediate power and with vision would be great.

    What would be the main differences between approaching a ball that is set closer to the net vs. a ball that is set further away from the net? Would the contact point & arm swing also be a lot different in one case vs. the other?

      @betteratthebeachvolleyball this is exactly what I was thinking. Measuring our approach from the net (plus our arm swing) it's a good starting point, but we always (or most of the time) are adjusting our approach to the ball the setter is giving to us each time (of course, having a consistent reception and setting makes things easier).

    Video suggestion: Strategies for attacking in gusting wind and/or with inconsistent setters.
    I struggle perfecting my beach approach because I'm dealing with one or both of these things.
    It's hard to look for openings on the court when I take my eye off the ball and the ball is in a very different place from where I was anticipating. Maybe it's where I play, but the wind speed above the antenna is often different from what I feel on the ground.
    What do I do when I'm ready to jump or mid jump and the ball has suddenly moved 1 foot to the side or behind my head thanks to an unexpected gust?

    once you;ve found that distance, do you run at an angle to the net, so that you can swing across your body, or would you be parallel to the next and hit forward if that makes sense?

    • @kevinquartemont2313
      @kevinquartemont2313 3 года назад

      I'm pretty sure it depends on what side you're hitting from. For example, a right handed hitter would take an angled approach from the left side and a straight on approach if hitting from the right side. Obviously reverse that if you're a lefty.

    do you have any suggestions for shorter folk, who do not have massive vertical jumps? should our contact location be farther than an arms length away from the net, since we need to rely more on topspin and a flatter ball trajectory to bring the ball down instead of being able to hit downwards?
