    You did a good job with this. When you started taking paladin levels and suggested using a 2 handed weapon you would have had some trouble since hex warrior is for 1 handed weapons unless you go pact of the blade, which you can't do if you want to not ever need to sleep😉

    Witherbloom Strixhaven background if available also grants access to Greater Restoration (and Death Ward for rest-casting shenanigans), which allows you to branch out significantly for sorcerer subclass (I'd probably take Aberrant Mind just as my favorite with no long rest limitations). I like Warforged/Reborn for a simple guaranteed "don't have to sleep" at all along with throwing in lack of eating/drinking/breathing etc to add to the "Immortal" vibe this combo befits. I also like levels in Eloquence/Lore Bard (for more spells/utility) or Whispers (especially if using Booming Blade when gishing) as an option over Paladin. Just some food for thought for other options to go with.

    Great Video anyway
    People are talking about Warforged, Pag 68 of Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron.

  • @nono7105
    @nono7105 2 года назад +7

    Exhaustion would come from a lack of sleep. Not needing to sleep would mean that you don't get exhausted. I can't see how a DM could rule otherwise.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 года назад +3

      It comes in the specific wording of the rules. Exhaustion comes from a lack of long resting, not necessarily sleeping. Page 78 of XGtE states: "Whenever you end a 24-hour period without finishing a LONG REST, you must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throws or suffer one level of exhaustion. It becomes harder to fight off exhaustion if you stay awake multiple days. After the first 24 hours, the DC increases by 5 for each 24-hour period without a long rest. The DC resets to 10 when you finish a long rest." Sleeping is a part of long resting, yes, but just because you don't need sleep doesn't save you from the rule. The best case scenario I can think of would be a DM saying that the DC doesn't get worse over time. Either way you're bound to fail eventually without taking something like Stars Druid which seems like a waste of levels on this build

    Without any long rests, healing becomes an issue, since hit die spent don't recover until a long rest is taken. Therefore, I think a wise choice of spell to take would be Aura of Vitality. You'll be able to heal both yourself and allies between combats that way. You might even consider the Extend Spell metamagic for this purpose as well.
    Gift of the Ever-Living Ones invocation might be worthwhile as well for self-healing, if you're able to get away with ignoring Aspect of the Moon using the Elf Trance racial.

  • @stanbunn1329
    @stanbunn1329 Год назад +1

    Play a warforged, also from ebboron, you don't need sleep and don't gain exhaustion for not resting. And then take the pact of the tome and aspect of the moon just to be safe. There you go, coffee lock starting at early levels. And you got the standard array wrong in the beginning, it's 15-14-13-12-10-8, you had 17-15-13-12-10-8. And when you added your racial trait you went way over where you can get at level 1. You may need to adjust your calculations because of that.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад

      I'm not sure where you read that Warforged are immune to exhaust but they aren't. They don't need sleep, but exhaustion is gained by a lack of long rest, not sleeping specifically. I also said that it is a modified standard Array. I use this in all of my videos

    Minor point. Unless you take pact of the blade you can’t use a heavy weapon with your charisma. The hex weapon is limited to 1 handed weapons or your pact weapon. So if you wanted GWM you would need to use your strength.

    Great video! I was wondering if you could do another build? I have an idea for a fear-based conquest paladin mixed with an undead patron warlock. How would you build this, what levels would you take in each class, and would you include anything else (such as sorcerer) to the mix?

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 года назад +1

      Hey thank you! I am always looking for ideas for future builds so I will put this on my list. Be looking for this in the future!

    • @nathans.3618
      @nathans.3618 2 года назад

      I've been thinking of this build too. My idea was 8 paladin, because you want at least 7 for Aura of Conquest and may as well grab 8 for the asi, and 6 undead warlock for Grave Touched and run pact of the chain. Invocations would be cloak of flies (since I would be using sword and shield instead of EB) gift of the ever-living ones for more heals, and investment of the chain master with a sprite. Now I know the 1 damage their bow does isn't much, but with chain master it's a bonus action, a magical attack and it uses your spell save DC and on failure it poisons for 1 minute, giving the target disadvantage on attacks and ability checks.
      Now at lvl 14 where do we go? I thought shadow sorcerer for hound of ill omen, but that's a max of 6 lvls and the hound cost 3 sorcery points. So 2 per day since we wouldn't want to burn spell slots we could use on smite.
      But instead if we went lore bard we could still have two 5th level spell slots, get cutting words as a reaction 5 times a day (until bard 5 then double that) and pick up any 2 spells at lvl 20, bard 6.
      You won't be doing the most damage, but if you have cloak up every frightened creature that starts its turn within 5 feet of you takes an average of 9 damage. If you picked up spiritual guardians and have that up cast at lvl 5, even if they succeed the saving throw they take an average of 19 damage. If they fail its 29. Either way, you still get to take your turn with 2 attacks you can smite on.
      Sorry for the long ramble, but its been 4 weeks any no one else tried to give you any ideas. I hope you find the perfect build.

    Cries in Thri-Kreen. You do not require sleep and can remain conscious during a long rest, though you must still refrain from strenuous activity to gain the benefit of the rest. Infinite short rest lol

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад

      The issue lies in the changes that came in Xanathars that break the correlation between sleep and Long Resting. So yeah you don't have to sleep, but you still have to long rest in order to avoid a Con save to avoid suffering exhaustion.

    So silly question. I'm gonna play as a Thri-Kreen (Don't need to sleep) so I can take Pact of The Blade instead, then can I technically Coffee Lock if my party long rests more than once per 24 HR period? At least early on before I get all the way up to being able to use the restoration. It still is good if I have a bunch of extra spell slots. Plus with Pact of The Blade, I can take Eldritch Smite instead of Paladin Levels and keep going up with Warlock.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад +1

      You just have to be careful because exhaustion comes from lack of long resting, not specifically sleeping. Then all of your spell slots leave if you long rest. You can always risk the save and try to roll out of it but obviously the save gets harder and harder as you go

    One thing he glosses over is you also need 100 gp worth DIAMON DUST per Greater Restoration, specifically the dust not the 100 gold. If you have a DM hand waves having to have specifically diamond dust then great! None of the people that DM in my group hand waves the material cost.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад

      This is a crucial element of it and it's why the Coffeelock RAW is really no longer truly viable in a long term sense. It is incredibly expensive to maintain even if you find the dust and you can't avoid it by skipping sleep thanks to Xanathars. This build is merely a best case scenario situation that is probably going to be difficult to duplicate thanks to the restrictions in the rules

    • @b.b.927
      @b.b.927 10 месяцев назад

      @@DapperSnapperGaming College of Creation Bard can alleviate this by 5th level if you take that instead of Paladin levels. Obviously by a certain point you'll be rolling in gold by tier 3-4, but if diamond dust specifically is hard to come by you can just create it. Performance of Creation can be fueled by your infinite spell slots. A Conjuration Wizard in your party can also create the diamond (since no cost is specified) and grind it up for you if you plan ahead with another player.

      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад +1

    • @LyghtSyde
      @LyghtSyde Год назад

      @@DapperSnapperGaming right, I guess my understanding about how to create them is my issue. Like how many can you create per short rest? You aren't able to hold more points above your level limit so it's breaking them down until you have enough points to then create a new slot. That process takes time. Since in the rules its written as a bonus action. Out of combat how does this work?
      Using it on a point based system if I broke down all of my available spell slots I would have 124 points after I replenish them and break them down again. Assuming I break these down properly without going over my point limit I can create 17 5th level spell slots and still have 2 points left over before my short rest. I feel like I'm doing the math wrong because that's A LOT or is it just that broken?

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  Год назад +1

      It really is that broken. There is no limit to how many slots you can create since they are temporary spell slots. You are only limited by the amount of down time you have. Short rest, convert to Sorc points, convert to spell slots, repeat. Technically the best Warlock to do this with is the Genie since at level 10 they get to short rest in 10 minutes. Keep in mind we are only converting our Warlock slots over to points and then to regular slots. I'm not sure if it is that many but it does add up over time
