  • Fishing for mackerel from an aluminum boat in Nova Scotia, Canada. On this fishing trip, we ventured to the Saint Margaret's Bay Area and caught hundreds of mackerel! We couldn't keep our lines in the water without catching fish. For gear, we used Sabiki Rigs with 1.4oz weighted hooks. Unfortunately, most of the fish were far too small to keep. However, we kept enough for a few meals. During this trip, we even witnessed a pod of dolphins swim by and caught a hake and a large sculpin. Notably, this year mackerel need to be 10.55 inches and you are allowed to retain 20 fish.

It's definitely been a challenging year. I went out a few time myself and had pretty bad luck... This trip was the season exception!

Seems like some places and some schools are good numbers and others are good size. Yesterday I caught 8 keepers in River Philip, 2 of them around 13 inches, and that was more than half the fish I caught all day. The other day I caught 10 undersize in a row. It's like they travel in groups by size. Did you say when this was shot? I didn't catch it. Lol "that's your brother!" I like to put little pieces of macker head on my sabiki rigs, it gives you a chance to catch stripers at the same time.

Haha I laughed when he made the brother comment. This was filmed late August, so just a couple weeks ago. They definitely do travel in size... Some schools have big fish... Some have smaller fish... Thanks for watching buddy!
