  • Steve Whitmire -- a world-reknown puppeteer from the Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop and the Muppets Studio -- shares his advanced puppetry knowledge and unique experiences with adults (who are kids at heart) at the 2018 Niagara Falls Comic Con.
    Steven Lawrence "Steve" Whitmire (born September 24, 1959) is an American puppeteer who has worked on "The Muppets" and "Sesame Street." Beginning his involvement with the Muppets in 1978, Whitmire inherited the roles of Kermit the Frog and Ernie after Jim Henson's death in 1990. He went on to perform those characters until 2016 and 2014, respectively. As part of the Muppet cast, he has appeared in multiple feature films and television series, performing a variety of characters on The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and "Fraggle Rock" and during such occupations has worked for the Jim Henson Company, Sesame Workshop, and the Muppets Studio. Other muppet characters he has performed are Beaker, Statler, Rizzo the Rat, Lips (the trumpet player from Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem), Foo-Foo (Miss Piggy's dog), The Muppet Newsman, Wembley Fraggle and Sprocket the Dog on "Fraggle Rock" and Bean Bunny in "The Tale of the Bunny Picnic" (1986). Some of his non-muppet puppetry credits include "The Dark Crystal" (1982), "Labyrinth" (1986) and the "Dinosaurs" TV series (1991 to 1994). Whitmire also voiced Link Hogthrob in the video games "Muppet RaceMania" and "Muppet Party Cruise."

    He just seems like the nicest, most wholesome guy ever. There must be more to why he was fired than him than him being "hard to work with" and because they weren't happy with how he played Kermit. From what he says is they got annoyed about the notes that he offered, because he wanted Kermit to be true to Jim's vision, yet if since it's to be assumed they got their way, they can't really complain about how he played the character. Anyway, Frank Oz said that The Muppets under Disney control would be much better if they allowed the performers to have some creative say, like Jim always allowed, because they know the characters and it always worked out in the past.

      @Philip Kippel I adore Steve and I could never hate him. Some of the best people are difficult to work with. Lucille Ball I heard was very difficult to with and everyone loves her.

      I was thinking about this the other day - and gathered that he must still receive royalties for all those years of being with the Muppets through DVD sales, merchandise and reruns on TV etc. Probably that coupled with these appearances is enough for him to get by.

      I also heard in this interview that he's doing his own project sort of thing. I can't wait to see that, whenever that is.

    I agree with ya’ll, Steve sounds like a pretty good guy. We’ll never know the whole story but Steve will always be the second Kermit and the first one to the younger generation. Best of luck to him, he’ll be missed.

    I always consider Kermit more of a Sesame Street and Henson character, not much a Disney character.

    • @patrickmanway290
      @patrickmanway290 Год назад +1

      And that's why when Henson was going to sell his company to Disney, Henson stipulated he retain ownership of Kermit.

    So sad. I never really liked the muppets changing voices but after jim died and all i ever wanted to do was be a puppeteer i felt Steve did a wonderful job of being kermit.
    Unlike most other people who have taken over characters who sound nothing like the originals and have ruined the muppets for me.
    Wembley was always my favourite fraggle when i was young. I wore palm tree shirts because of him. Disney have messed up everything. They never released the muppet show series 4 or 5 on dvd. They allow talented people to be replaced by people that are no good anddont dont have a clue about jim Hensons vision.
    I didnt even watch the O2 show because of this.
    The whole kermit and Miss Piggy break up and that tv show thst tried to make the mupoets too adult.
    CRINGEWORTHY.
    DISNEY NEED TO BE AWARE THEY ARE REALLY UPSETTING FANS OF THE MUPPETS. PLEASE STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THEM AND RELEASE THE REST OF THE DVDS BEFORE WE ALL DIE OF OLD AGE.
