How Victimizing Idols is Ruining K-Pop

  • Criticism is not hate - this is something that many K-Pop fans don't understand as the concept of constructive criticism has been completely abolished within the industry. Try to criticize an idol and you'll be swarmed by malicious replies and comments. But is this really the way to go?

Those behaviors mainly exist in loser fans who are anti-social, with borderline personality disorder, no friends, and want to live vicariously through their kpop idols. Sometimes people just need to stop reproducing if they can't properly raise their kids to be decent human beings, garbage in, garbage out.

The real problem with kpop stans is that they take idols for literal Gods and put them on a pedestal. That's actually encouraged by labels who train idols from the start to look "flawless and single" so that the fans see them as the perfect boyfriends. The more fans gatekeep them, the more they buy merch, albums and concert tickets. Nobody is perfect. It's all just planned by the label and idols from the start to make profit. Labels don't even care if fans become toxic. As long as they buy, it's fine for them

    I agree and disagree.
A lot of people present "constructive criticism" as straight up hate. Yes, hate is a necessary part of life but it's not a synonym of criticism. Constructive criticism is "hey "?", you're really bad at A, B, C, maybe you should do X, Y, Z to improve" not "they're so trash/how do they have fans" etc.
Overpraising is also a big problem. People praise some of these idols like literal GODS and when they make the slightest HUMANE mishap they're immediately "dragged" by the same people who used to praise them. Overpraising also leads to some idols having a "God-Complex" which allows them to think that they can do anything without retaliation from their fans or other fan-bases. Somi spoke about it openly saying something like "I felt like I deserved everything and demanded everything" and she's not even close to the level of a lot of soloists like her, let alone some groups so if she used to feel that way just imagine how some "bigger" idols must feel?
Said this a million times, if you're a fan just listen to the music, enjoy the side-content (vlogs, behind the scenes and what not) if you're feeling drawn towards the personalities of the idols/whatever artists you like, if you got the necessary funds to buy an album/merch/concert ticket, go ahead but don't put anyone on a pedestal, we don't know the people they truly are when the cameras are turned off (long ahh comment but if anyone changes their perspective towards the artists they look up to, it's worth the read).

Lesserafim got sugarcoated, praised for 2 years, and during Coachella, we didn't see the "Sakura improve better than X idols." "Yunjin outsings every 4th gen vocalist" "Yunjin is an opera singer" and now we're seeing Coachella. Why did feranot bullied everyone? And why are they giving a platform to haters and not actual concerned fans that they call haters...

I'm still pissed off to this day about the amount of hate that Jennie got for having her solo debut first. She literally was the test subject, which she herself have said, and didn't even get 2 songs at that compared to the other girls. Solo stans are the main reasons why I hate interacting in the Kpop community, especially with how they keep putting other members down, when the same idol they are stanning don't even approve of their behavior.

I think the saddest part of this is the fact that criticism is always turned into hate. Let me explain: K-pop fans will spew their hate and hateful antics, but then hide behind the valid criticism to justify their behaviour. It's gross and it's unfortunately way too common. If one person gives criticism, you're right, they will be called a hater or others will result to insults such as "your favs are flops" and so on, but in the case of LSFM and ILLIT for example, there was SO much criticism because... well we couldn't pretend that they were indeed doing a good job. But all that criticism has changed into nothing but hate and it's easy for companies to ignore the real criticism and focus on the hate as a way to gain sympathy.

  • @B.A.R.E.2
    @B.A.R.E.2 Месяц назад +32

Criticism of K-pop is a common occurrence, with fans and outsiders alike often voicing their opinions on various aspects of the genre. Some of the most common criticisms include the industry's emphasis on image and aesthetic perfection, as well as the pressure put on idols to maintain a certain look and persona.
Critics also point out the prevalence of plagiarism and cultural appropriation in K-pop, with some artists being accused of copying the music and style of other artists without giving proper credit. Additionally, there are concerns about the intense training and exploitation of young idols, as well as the lack of mental health support in the industry.
Despite the criticisms, K-pop continues to gain popularity worldwide, with many fans appreciating the catchy music, impressive dance routines, and elaborate music videos. Ultimately, like any form of entertainment, K-pop is not without its flaws, but it is up to fans and artists to navigate and address these criticisms in a constructive way.

    • @Imme_begin

The plagiarism and copying thing in KPop is the most ridiculous, bizarre thing I have ever witnessed. The fact that people honestly think that people can’t do similar things, wear similar clothes or hairstyles is CRAZY! There are only so many things groups can do. Trends and fads get copied. Music evolves by inspiration from others. You have bought into an ideology that has no merit. If people thought this way in the ‘60’s, 70’s, 80’s, etc… we would missed so much good music. Every group with long hair, drums, a guitarist and singers would be worried about the other groups who look to much like them. Do you not see how utterly ridiculous it would sound when they are that is? Should the first hair band have thrown a fit and said no one else to have long hair because it hey own that look? How about you? Why did you dress the way you do? Better watch out. You are copying other people! 🤦🏼‍♀️
Groups don’t get big because of “concepts”. That is stupid. They get big because they reach an audience that identifies with them, loves their music, dancing, personalities, etc. This stealing concepts is a shield for “I’m not as big as them so this is the excuse I am going use”. They aren’t as big because they didn’t reach as many people that identifies with them. Period.
Groups should focus on their music and ignore the others. Fans should do the same. They should support the ones they identify with and ignore the others. There is no sense in hating people because they are more successful than others. What does it matter what other groups do. If your group does their job well enough, they will have fans. They don’t have to be in competition with the others and want them destroyed. Do you see how that is and e¥il way that way too many fans think? I’m not saying you think that way. I don’t know you.

    • @B.A.R.E.2
      @B.A.R.E.2 Месяц назад +1

@@Imme_begin It's important to remember that inspiration and copying are not the same thing. It's natural for artists to be influenced by others and to draw inspiration from different sources. Music is a form of art that constantly evolves and builds upon previous work. Ultimately, what matters most is the genuine connection that a group has with their audience and the quality of their music. Comparing and competing with other groups only takes away from the enjoyment of the music industry as a whole. As fans, it's important to support the artists we love and appreciate their unique talents and contributions to the industry.

Kpop fans are so disconnected from the rest of the music world in general. Kpop has the most overproduced, commercialized, choreographed to a tee performances in the world. Which in itself can often be very impressive and obviously good to watch. But most other music shows in the world are far more about the energy and passion behind the music. Of course, you still try to look and sound great, but it's almost secondary to the actual show itself.
Another thing I've noticed is Kpop fans tend to be really bad at identifying when groups are lipsyncing and actually singing live. I see some people criticizing groups for singing slightly worse live and then in the next breath, praising a performance that was clearly lipsynced. If people were more aware of when groups were actually singing live they'd have more realistic expectations, especially for prolonged shows as opposed to one song performances.

I think it was the 'Ready to Love' comeback where I saw Carats being really critical of the video. They loved the song, which they expressed as well, but they also spoke out about being unsatisfied with the MV (except for the 'rainy' bit at the end). It was all very well structured. Constructive criticism at its best.

Back to the bad vocals thing some so called fans gave shit to Jimin for not being able to sing at music core, I mean I get it, it was not the best performance he has ever done but some of yall gave him shit for not being able to sing but if the same thing happens to your faves it's a thing of being nervous or they are dancing. Jimin may not have been able to hold some notes and music core but he has proven time and time again that he is a good performer and it seems like that went over some people's heads

Criticism is not hate. While that is true, many, particularly the ones aimed at Le Sserafim and ILLIT recently, are indeed hate comments masked as constructive criticism. You can't simply ignore that fact. They don't want them to improve, they just outright enjoy spewing malicious comment. They are even often brought up in discussions that are unrelated to them. There is a threshold for what constitutes constructive criticism, and the overwhelming number of hate comments they receive certainly surpasses it. Given that the feedback has already reached the members, this is a time when they need support more than ever, yet I feel you chose to discourage those with this video.
Maybe you should review what is constructive criticism and what is hate. Because I refuse to call the mass of hate comments as constructive criticism. If the goal is to elevate the standard of K-POP, it would be better to support and promote groups that meet your standards. Hate comments are completely unnecessary.

I honestly much much prefer the time where members they were amazing at the position they were given and average or even below average in the two other categories or great at two but bad in the 3rd one(Like a "main vocalist" would ACTUALLY have main vocalist vocals, main rapper would be amazing rapper but just average or below average vocalist) I would much rather have that than "all rounders" that are just above average or "good enough" at all 3 positions

Idols should not be treated as performance monkeys but as artists.

You know why people jump into criticising some groups more than others?? It’s because their hype, achievements don’t add up to their talents so obviously fans of talented Kpop groups would be pointing out where the flaw is… especially when Kpop is under scrutiny for payola, music show/award show bribery, brand deals bribery, plagiarism, sasaegi etc.

Part of it is not having enough experience and understanding of technical skills to create a constructive criticism. If a person knows something is bad but has no clue how to fix it they’ll blatantly say how bad they are. The real reason is the need for fandoms to crush other artists because they don’t want competition for their idols. And when their bias is honest about their frustration within the fandom it’s a slap to the face to them. Like they literally feel entitled to their idols success as if they created them. This is where parasocial relationship gets too far.

People have no goddamn concept of moderation. You're allowed to criticize someone if you a) provide valid proof, and b) do it politely, but generally those things barely exist on the internet. Instead you get a nonsensical war between people who spend all day flaming and fans who get so overly defensive that they won't acknowledge even valid criticism. This is why I don't get involved with this crap if I can avoid it.

The way fans handle this kind of subject should be more realistic. Even in our daily lives, there is a difference between constructive criticism and hate. We learn how to constructively criticize in school, at work, to our friends.
It’s all about the delivery and the words being used. Methods like a “compliment sandwich” are often helpful. Not being hurtful, but encouraging. Yet still giving a person ways they can improve and pointing out what may have been a better choice.
It’s difficult for true hate, bullying, dogpiling, callousness and degrading word choice to be taken seriously when every fair review and respectful opinion is bundled together as hate.

Saying "Jennie is lazy" can even make anyone be viewd as a m*nster 😅
I'm a VIPStay and let me tell you, the way that particular idol has made a career without doing much is mostly due to these type of fans.
Because GD was performing with an ankle injury for almost 5 years (that doesn't make him a hero or anything, just someone who was negligent about prioritizing his health over work) and Felix made it through the whole MANIAC era with a back injury (promo, dance practices, concerts, fanmeetings...) and always gave his 1000%.
But dare someone say Jennie should up her game, there will always be a trope of her fans victimize her giving the absurdist of excuses such as "she has a wrist injure", "her eyelid was hit by a feather last night"... etc... 😅

I don't think hating a criticizing a group or individual is a healthy way to go through life. We each control our time and entertainment funds, and if you don't enjoy what a performer is doing, go elsewhere! There's a lot of great music in the world, and if you find some that makes you happy, that's who you support.

BoA sang live with her intense choreos? 2NE1 and their live raps? good old days. even tho it may not have sounded as good as the studio version and u could hear their breathings, they were genuine and they tried to do it anyways, that gave their performance "souls". nowadays i dont see any groups or anyone doing it. dont even talk to me about the 5th gen groups who are mostly hyped by payola.
