Thanks for this. I just bought this unit and ran into that exact issue. I ended up using a few layers of really good plumbers tape and that solved the issue!

Thank you! I just tried this and worked wonderfully. It’s sad that my machine is barely 2 months old, used 4 times and it started leaking. I lost almost an entire reservoir of Hoover cleaning solution before I noticed the puddle on my floor. Thanks again !

I lost a full tank of solution all over my floor. I’m so relieved with this “fix” because my machine worked great until this happened.

Thank you! I also sadly discovered mine was leaking "out of the box". I ended up with a full tank of solution in two spots of my carpet before realizing this was a definte problem. After watching your video, I was able to resolve the same with a few turns of plumbing tape though. Good thing the unit was marked down significantly, but still something they should absolutely resolve at the factory. No QC department Hoover?

Thank you! I followed instructions to put solution container cap on tightly, walked away for a minute and half the tank solution was on my brand new wood floor. And thanks to everyone else who replied. It helps to know it wasn't just me and that there is a fix.

Thanks! I just had a very bad taste with Hoover customer service on Friday because of this issue which obviously seems like a manufacturer defect. They told me my warranty was void because I used the Bissell brand solution, which probably caused the issue. This is the last Hoover I will buy just for that lame excuses from their service REP. A carpet cleaning solution shouldn't cause this issue regardless of the brand because that's the primary purpose.
Manufacturer Defect that the company is trying to push customers away. I’ll recommend everyone to buy Bissell.

I use the Hoover solution and it just started happening to me after only a few uses. So his solution excuse was just that… an excuse.

I just got a brand new Smartwash and my cleaner dripped on my floor buckling it! My machine wasn't suctioning up correctly on my upholstery leaving it wet, so I waited unti next day to troubleshoot it. I I'm so upset right now. And as much as I love your solution for the leaky soap part, I also am experiencing that, but why would we have to buy a new part to keep it from leaking when it's a manufacturer defect?

Yes it worked and I only had one rubber band! I am so relieved. Nothing worse than wanting to start a project and having something not working

Thank you!!! Mine actually took three rubberbands but my Hoover is a different style. It works!!! It is irritating because I haven't had mine even six months so I hope Hoover sees this and gets embarrassed that it took a customer's creativity to fix it! Thank Again! I'm off to wash my carpet!

Thanks , literally just purchased my smart wash the other day and I didn’t notice it leaking at first , but I noticed today when I was cleaning my stairs and it leaked onto the tile downstairs. I use the bissell solution but if I ever call customer service I’ll be sure to say I use their approved hoover solution 🤣

Robert Garcia. When you call customer service you’ll probably have to use another name.

I tried the rubber bands but they didn’t seem to get a good seal so I tried something else instead. A single rubber O-ring that I had in the garage. Works perfectly. Suction seems like it’s working better as well now. Thanks.

I saw a bunch of these machines in a deep discount store called “Ollie’s” In Florida. Apparently Hoover is unloading these defective machines.
Made cheaply in China. Sold in The United States for a huge markup.
Can’t get them to work out of the box. I contacted Hoover about the loss of fluid and
asked them to replace it, and they shipped me replacement fluid.
