Thanks for this. I just bought this unit and ran into that exact issue. I ended up using a few layers of really good plumbers tape and that solved the issue!
Thank you! I just tried this and worked wonderfully. It’s sad that my machine is barely 2 months old, used 4 times and it started leaking. I lost almost an entire reservoir of Hoover cleaning solution before I noticed the puddle on my floor. Thanks again !
Thank you! I also sadly discovered mine was leaking "out of the box". I ended up with a full tank of solution in two spots of my carpet before realizing this was a definte problem. After watching your video, I was able to resolve the same with a few turns of plumbing tape though. Good thing the unit was marked down significantly, but still something they should absolutely resolve at the factory. No QC department Hoover?
Thank you! I followed instructions to put solution container cap on tightly, walked away for a minute and half the tank solution was on my brand new wood floor. And thanks to everyone else who replied. It helps to know it wasn't just me and that there is a fix.
Thanks! I just had a very bad taste with Hoover customer service on Friday because of this issue which obviously seems like a manufacturer defect. They told me my warranty was void because I used the Bissell brand solution, which probably caused the issue. This is the last Hoover I will buy just for that lame excuses from their service REP. A carpet cleaning solution shouldn't cause this issue regardless of the brand because that's the primary purpose. Manufacturer Defect that the company is trying to push customers away. I’ll recommend everyone to buy Bissell.
I just got a brand new Smartwash and my cleaner dripped on my floor buckling it! My machine wasn't suctioning up correctly on my upholstery leaving it wet, so I waited unti next day to troubleshoot it. I I'm so upset right now. And as much as I love your solution for the leaky soap part, I also am experiencing that, but why would we have to buy a new part to keep it from leaking when it's a manufacturer defect?
Thank You! Wendy. I had a problem with leaking during my first time using it. I took your elastic plan and used Plummer’s tape instead and it worked. Adapt and overcome!
Thank you so much. I'm going to try this. I was so angry that my machine was already not working. Soap all over the floor. Leaking out the bottom. I hope this works... Yes it worked and I only had one rubber band! I am so relieved. Nothing worse than wanting to start a project and having something not working
THANK YOU!!!! Fresh out of the box yesterday and lost the whole tank of solution as it started pouring out immediately. I can’t wait to get home and try this out.
Thank you!!! Mine actually took three rubberbands but my Hoover is a different style. It works!!! It is irritating because I haven't had mine even six months so I hope Hoover sees this and gets embarrassed that it took a customer's creativity to fix it! Thank Again! I'm off to wash my carpet!
Thanks , literally just purchased my smart wash the other day and I didn’t notice it leaking at first , but I noticed today when I was cleaning my stairs and it leaked onto the tile downstairs. I use the bissell solution but if I ever call customer service I’ll be sure to say I use their approved hoover solution 🤣
Robert Garcia. When you call customer service you’ll probably have to use another name. They most likely monitor RUclips and have your name. Mine started leaking on the first day.
Didn’t work for me at all. I don’t think the cleaning solution is making it through the machine, I’m basically cleaning with water while my machine leaking all the soap.
Thanks for this video, Great advice. I have the same problem after using this machine twice...It does a good job but definitely needs to solve this problem. I see many others having this same problem. Question: Can you put solution in water tank to do the job
I tried the rubber bands but they didn’t seem to get a good seal so I tried something else instead. A single rubber O-ring that I had in the garage. Works perfectly. Suction seems like it’s working better as well now. Thanks.
Mine is leaking water from the center of the cap. I tried Teflon tape and the bands and still not working. Hoover is sending me a new cap but have to wait a week. Hopefully this is not an ongoing issue.
Was waiting on the phone with Hoover for a long time while looking for solutions online. Just hung up! Going to try this now on "The Beast"! Thank you.
I knew there was a reason for saving those rubber bands! Thank you so much for sharing this info. It was so easy and fixed my leaking solution problem perfect! I agree with the previous comment stating you are a HERO!!!❤❤
Thank you so much! Never thought 2 silly asparagus rubber bands would do the trick! It did! Congrats on this fix! (And yes I save those rubber bands too!)
mine too! i came home one day, and all this water was on my carpet! About 2 months old as well. I was going to buy a new piece but figured it would break too, so googled it and found you. Will try it!
I saw a bunch of these machines in a deep discount store called “Ollie’s” In Florida. Apparently Hoover is unloading these defective machines. Made cheaply in China. Sold in The United States for a huge markup. Can’t get them to work out of the box. I contacted Hoover about the loss of fluid and asked them to replace it, and they shipped me replacement fluid.

Same here....👍
I lost a full tank of solution all over my floor. I’m so relieved with this “fix” because my machine worked great until this happened.
Same thing happened to me! I'm frustrated because those Hoovers aren't cheap. Going to try this.
Thank you! I also sadly discovered mine was leaking "out of the box". I ended up with a full tank of solution in two spots of my carpet before realizing this was a definte problem. I use the Hoover solution and it just started happening to me after only a few uses. So his solution excuse was just that… an excuse.

You are my hero Wendy!!! I just so happened to have 2 of those blue rubber bands in my junk drawer too! 😭😁
Thank You! Wendy. I had a problem with leaking during my first time using it. I took your elastic plan
and used Plummer’s tape instead and it worked. Adapt and overcome!
I just bought mine today and this happened to me too! I lost the entire thing of solution smh
Wendy! I have put 2 elastics aside in case my plumbers tape is a short term fix.
William, I tried the plumbers tape as well and it worked for a short while because the tape wears away.
Thank you! I used Teflon tape and it stopped the leak!
Thank you so much. I'm going to try this. I was so angry that my machine was already not working. Soap all over the floor. Leaking out the bottom. I hope this works... THANK YOU!!!!
Fresh out of the box yesterday and lost the whole tank of solution as it started pouring out immediately. I can’t wait to get home and try this out.
Thank you SO MUCH! You are a life-saver!❤
This is really nice. I bought a #19 O-ring (1.25" OD / 1" ID) and put it in the cap. That also seems to work.
Holy moly! Thank God for you and You Tube, of course. I was pitchin’ a fit about this leaky solution tank. Easy peasy fix.
Ooops didn't even think that could be the case.... 😳 I'm using rug doctor solution in mine lol
Robert Garcia. When you call customer service you’ll probably have to use another name.

Didn’t work for me at all. I don’t think the cleaning solution is making it through the machine, I’m basically cleaning with water while my machine leaking all the soap.
Sorry, that sounds like a different problem. My hack stops the washing fluid from dumping out all at once. Hope you can find a solution
me too, leak stopped but now it won't dispense solution, not very happy! Water alone will not clean pet stains from my senior dog accidents.
Thanks for this video, Great advice. I have the same problem after using this machine twice...It does a good job but definitely needs to solve this problem. I see many others having this same problem. Question: Can you put solution in water tank to do the job

Mine disassembled itself how do i fix it.
Ugh same!
The valve cap? Mine did too. It was so hard to put back together but I did manage to get it back together.
@@boatwidow2002 I took my cap apart and cant get it back together as well. Any suggetions?
You're a true hero! I was even shocked to find I had the same blue rubber bands in my junk drawer😂 no more leaking!
The spring and plastic thing came out of the screw on solution bottle. Do you know how to reassemble the three pieces?
Uggggg
I have same problem. Did you figure it out?
Mine too!! Can`t get it to work....won`t screw back on no matter how I reassemble it.....ugh....just took it out of the box!
You rock! I have been so upset and you have made my day!
Thank you for this tip , however Plummer’s tape works better..
Mine is leaking water from the center of the cap. I tried Teflon tape and the bands and still not working. Hoover is sending me a new cap but have to wait a week. Hopefully this is not an ongoing issue.
ah ha, I decided that the 'cap' was missing a washer on the inside. for now I ordered a new cap and we shall see. but I like your solution also.
Thank you! I almost bought a new one, but this fixed it.
Has anyone had the air holes in the bottom leak? Mine does right out of the box and idk why
So just to confirm, it doesn't prevent the solution from coming out when we need it to?
Was waiting on the phone with Hoover for a long time while looking for solutions online. Just hung up! Going to try this now on "The Beast"! Thank you.
Great going to try this I have a sofa to clean for tomorrow
1:10 it seems like you might be missing a rubber washer
Wendy! You are THAT girl . Thank you for this video
Works great. Thank you
Thank you! That worked like a charm!
I fixed the leak with your method but now it won't dispense solution, any answers?
Ahmazing!!! Thank you so much
Awesome and thanks! Wonder if plumbers tape would work, too?
I knew there was a reason for saving those rubber bands! Thank you so much for sharing this info. It was so easy and fixed my leaking solution problem perfect! I agree with the previous comment stating you are a HERO!!!❤❤
Teflon tape works better. For some reason Hoover didn't put an o-ring in there.
Thank you so much! Never thought 2 silly asparagus rubber bands would do the trick! It did! Congrats on this fix! (And yes I save those rubber bands too!)
I'm going to try that. From day 1 mine leaked! Love the machine but not all the wasted solution 😖
Thank you Wendy!!!
Going to try this right now. plumbers tape only work for a short time.
Thanks works well now
Great video, thank you
Thanks so much for the hack.
Thank you! Exactly the fix I needed
Thank you 🎉
Nice, ty saved me a boat of cash
Very savvy Thank you so much ❣️
mine too! i came home one day, and all this water was on my carpet! About 2 months old as well. I was going to buy a new piece but figured it would break too, so googled it and found you. Will try it!
Thank you, I was so frustrated with the Hoover shampooing machine I almost took it back to Walmart. You saved me time and frustration,God bless you.
Umm Teflon tape.
Well that was dumb of me! Thank you!
Thanks so much!
Yay! Thanks!
You saved me hours of hunting online, and it works! Thank you
I almost threw mine away! Genius!
Wendy you rock. Thank you
