  • To disable the rear abs on the BMW G310GS while on the trail, I changed the bolt on the abs sensor to a tool-free quick release bolt. Why bmw ditched the switch on the bars for the later bikes baffles me.
The road is Sugarbag Rd near Drake NSW. section is the trickiest it gets travelling east to west.

Great idea! Looking to do the same until the warranty expires on my 2023. Do you have the specs or link to the quick release clamp and spacer you used?

Thanks for the comment 👍. The lever is made by Kipp. If you search ebay for "KIPP Cam Levers Adjust External Plastic + Steel/S.Steel Black MC (M5-M10) K0648" you will find the exact part. The options i choose are M6x1, stainless steel, 20mm thread. The gold spacer is actually an old school Mountain bike chainring nut I had hanging around the workshop...but anything simple should work. Hope that helps

You can definitely just do this same thing with the oem bolt and carry an Allen key. As I often flip the sensor depending on riding conditions, I just opted for a quick release style fastener. Just be aware that when you first flip the sensor it takes a few minutes of riding for the abs to finish its diagnostic mode (abs light flashes), during which you will have no speedometer or front abs. Once the abs light stops flashing and stays illuminated, you will have your speedometer back and front abs. Every time you turn off the ignition, this will process will repeat. So if I can, I leave the ignition on and shut the bike down with the kill switch. Obviously this is only good for short stops.

I think if the pre abs check has been done and then flip the sensor then there is no wait time or instrument outage

They ditched the switch? Must be the legal thing!

Who knows...they improved so many things with the update, but removed a feature that, in my opinion, is a safety thing if take an abs bike into anything remotely spicy off road...at least flipping the sensor works pretty well.
