I've got an i5 3.1ghz processor with 32gb Ram and an SSD hard drive and I can run quite a few instances of Tonehub with no problem. Tonehub does seem lighter on CPU than some other amp sims though. Neural amp sims are a bit more CPU intensive. If you can try upgrade your memory to the max you can on your system. That will make a big difference
@@GaryHiebner Hi, Thanks for your reply. Ended up buying tonehub, Can only have 4 instances running plus Superior drums . Need to update my Mac at some point, but for now it will have to do. Merry Christmas....
Try maybe like a 85-12 set (if you on a 7 string). But depends on your string te sion preference. You can use an online string tension calculator to help. Like the Stringjoy one
Hello! Love the video. Any recommendations for a beginner guitar that would work perfect for super low tuning? I've played in the past but stopped and it's been awhile... Not sure I want to get an 7-8 string but I've heard the jackson js22-7 or ibanez rg7421 may be good options.. thoughts?
How low do you want to go? And do you need all 7 strings or do you just want to go low? The problem I find with most 7 strings is that the majority of them only have a 25.5 inch scale length and this limits how low you can go. I find for me Drop A is like the limit on a 7 strings with a 25,5 inch scale. But if you get a 7 string with a longer scale you can go lower. The guys in Northlane are using 27 inch 7 strings and are tuning down to Drop F. If you just want to go low and don't need all 7 strings then take a look at some 6 string baritone guitars.
Very informative video. I’ve been wanting to make the jump to amp sims like STL. Just wondering if you’d recommend proper studio monitors or just a good set of speakers to play through. I’m not super knowledgeable about mixing, I’m mainly interested in just getting these tones and jamming along to music.
Studio monitors are great if they fit in your budget. The bigger the studio monitor the better low end clarity you will have on the guitars tones. Or if not in your budget right now just use what you got and enjoy it :)
Its in the video. I'm using my 7string Baritone into my audio interface. And then I'm using STL Tonehub. The Northlane Jon Deilley preset pack. And then do some slight EQ post processing
Yes, you will be able to tune your fanfare to this tuning, but you will need to use a slightly different gauge set because of your multi scale guitar. Best is to use a string gauge tension calculator like the one on string joy's site to calculate the custom set you can build up for a thing like this.
26,5 might be a bit short. Like you might be able to tune down to F, but it might not intonate correctly higher up the neck. But give it a bash. Try an 0.80 on the 7th string and see if it can intonate up to the 12th fret. If not maybe try a 0.85 on the 7th string. But the thicker you go on the strings the darker and less bright they sound.
Should need minimal EQ on guitars if you do it right. Maybe clean up around 3.5k and cut everything below 100hz or so. You could play with the 500-700hz but it always just sounds more full when it's left alone imo
It is possible. I put an 80 on a 25.5 and took it down to F. But it went slightly off with the intonation at the 12th fret. So you can try just use a light touch with your licking hand so the low string doesn’t go sharp if you hit it too hard.
I find the best solution is to shelf off a bit of the highs as this smooths off the sound. A low cut up to around 150hz helps get rid of any low rumble that may be taking up some headroom. And then I normally do some cuts on problematic resonant frequency areas. This changes depending on the guitar I’m using and the amp sim plugin.
Awesome but I don't have enough money to buy 7 strings, i only have an old equipment esp ltd v 401 guitar & digital effects pod x3 live. tuning in the band I used Drop B with the Numetal genre, but I never got a drop B sound with a heavy but clear tone quality. it feels sad to be a musician in an underdeveloped country, buying good musical equipment here requires very long savings & the wages of working an office are only enough for a day
If you got only a 6 string Standard scale you can put some heavy gauges on like 16-80. That will get you down to Drop F. But you might have intonation issues going up higher on the neck, and because of the thicker strings your tone will be a bit darker. Thats where baritones really come in handy. Better intonation and clarity for low tunings. In South Africa here it's also a bit hard getting gear. But I watch the used market alot. All my baritones I picked up used for really good prices. So maybe see what guitars are going on the used market. You never know maybe someone is selling their 7-string or baritone they not using :)
@@GaryHiebner what do you think of my LTD V 401 guitar with active EMG pickup, to play the Numetal genre with heavy core dunlop strings 10-60 for drop A, is that correct ??? please help, thx
That sounds good. Actives are good for low tunings and hi gain. Its a bit of a preference thing. Some guys live actives while others don't like them. Moral of the story if you like them then thats good. Get your gear to work for you that you currently have. Tweak and tweak until you get the tone you after. Standard scales are fine for Drop B.
