This video offers some suggestions for how to practice Kreutzer Etude #3.
Etude #3 is shorter and has less melodic variation than #2. As recommended by Kreutzer, you are welcome to apply all the same variations from Etude #2. But following some of the demonstrations from Edith Winn and Mimi Zweig, I will just focus on detache for this etude. At the same time, we add in some basic shifting up and down the C Major scale.
Note: The Galamian edition bowing and fingerings ensure that you are only shifting across bow changes or open strings. So, it is a good way to practice timing your shifts to sound hidden! A tip on quiet shifts - plan exactly where you want to shift to, try to smooth out any unnecessary accelerations/decelerations, and you may find that you actually don't have to move your hand as fast as you thought you did. (Don't worry, we will practice shifts within a slur in Etude #11).
