  • Excessive heat can impact development and health beginning before birth, both in the moment and across the lifespan. Watch the Center on the Developing Child’s conversation on the specific impacts of heat on children and their caregivers, featuring Center’s Chief Science Officer, Lindsey Burghardt, MD, MPH, FAAP, and Kari Nadeau, MD, PhD, Chair of the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
Dr. Burghardt and Dr. Nadeau share strategies to reduce exposure to heat to support children’s healthy development and well-being, and to ensure all children have access to safe places to grow, learn, and play in our changing climate. They also explore the intersection of heat and health equity in the United States.

The state should put a time limitations on how long to safely have a child outdoors in Extreme heat conditions. I have seen infants with skin burns, heat rash and experience signs of dehydration because there is no time frame.
