    Jake, can you do a video about how you scheduled your naps and core in a first moment?

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I can mention some of that in a future video. I'm planning to create a series called Polyphasic Academy that will be more of a scientific approach to the explanation of everything, and keep doing my personal vlog to go over my experiences. That way there will be a series for people to specifically learn about poly without all of the anecdotal stuff. Thanks for the feedback!

    I’m so glad that you are documenting this week by week because I think it’s fascinating. I want to try it, I just have to get over the fact that I may have to be taking “awkward naps”. Anyway, if I get the 25 dollar gift card I’m buying some books. I may have some “spare time” to read them lol.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Hah! Yeah awkward naps are a thing. Today my boss said each person on the team needed to choose a lunch period (11-12 or 12-1). I had to tell him that I need to have an exception until I can adjust my nap schedule....lol.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Also wanted to ask, what schedule do you think you would try? Segmented or E1 would minimize the awkward nap issue. :)

    IS it normal that I can't sleep during my nap ? Great job by the way continue like this

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      I had this same issue in my first week. It takes some build-up of sleep deprivation before you can fall asleep quickly (unless you have experience with napping). Yes, napping is a skill. In your first week to 10 days you will learn to nap effectively. If you're past 10 days it could be something else. Are you in the first week or so?

    • @titimaleti971
      @titimaleti971 6 лет назад

      Yeah I'm in my first week so I wasn't so worry but I had to Ask someone to know if it was normal !

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      Sure. I'm glad you asked. This is a common concern with new polyphasic sleepers. But don't worry, you'll start falling asleep. Just make sure to follow the guidelines of not eating much within 2 hours of a nap, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol if possible, and you should be fine.

    I'm in School right now and I really want to start polyphasic sleeping. What advice do you have for me? BTW I just love your videos! :)

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Well, there's a lot to be said. I'll need to know your current sleep schedule, your age (only because if you're young I wouldn't recommend a very extreme program at risk of affecting brain development), and your reasons for trying it. Since you're in school and finals are coming up, I wouldn't recommend one of the harder programs as that would put you into adaptation during or right before finals. That's something to save for a summer break. Because of that, without knowing more, I would say take a look at siesta or segmented schedules for the time being with a plan to transition to a more involved schedule over summer. Hit me up on email if you want to discuss further. jakebeeyt@gmail.com.

    • @ethanpierce324
      @ethanpierce324 6 лет назад

      Jake Bee so I'm 17, and I'm definitely still growing. I'm going to start polyphasically sleeping as soon as summer break starts. Would you recommend a 4 hour core sleep, with 3 20 minute naps, or should I increase the core sleep? This is something that I really want to do to increase my productivity

  • @Gryflir
    @Gryflir 6 лет назад

    All my attempts to polyphasic sleep have myserably failed within 10 days. Ironically now my current monophasic sleep pattern is so all over the place that it probably could be considered polyphasic. But it averages on 11h-12h of sleep per day so that's not yet... optimal.

    Some doubts though
    Is it recommended for 16 year old
    Will it effect my mental performance

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      I did not notice a dip in mental performance, and I have a pretty mentally strenuous job. You have bouts of extreme tiredness in weeks 2 and 3, but if you can make it through that you get to a place where focus and mental stamina are as good or better than before due to mid-day naps.

  • @walied5922
    @walied5922 6 лет назад

    I've been advised (by some folks in Discord) to cut off coffee first before embarking on that journey so I canceled my attempted E2 after day 1, got 27 days to get caffeine out of my system, meanwhile I will try gradually reduce the amount of sleep I'm getting, hopefully that would make tings easier later on.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Yeah dropping caffeine is pretty important early on until you're adapted. I cut caffeine on day 1 and dealt with the withdrawals and starting poly at the same time. Not fun, but it was over fast. Why 27 days?

    • @walied5922
      @walied5922 6 лет назад

      The Discord gurus advised that it will take 30 days to fully get rid of the caffeine out of my system, and that I shouldn't try to change my mono sleeping pattern in the process. 30 days may seem a bit long but I guess it's also good to be able to isolate the effects of caffeine withdrawal from those of distributing sleeping pattern, making sure I'm not fighting two things at the same time and been able to ideifilty whether the tiredness is cause caffeine withdrawal or something else. How long it took you to get rid of the caffeine, I mean to feel normally energized without coffee?

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      I would adamantly disagree with that. The science says the half-life of caffeine is 5-6 hours. That means in a day you're reduced to 1/16 the mg of caffeine in your system. 2 days is 1/256. At that point no symptoms from caffeine would be detectible. I can't imagine where they got 30 days from. Ultimately it's up to you.

    • @walied5922
      @walied5922 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply, I guess that makes sense. I will probably just try to listen to my body, may be won't wait for 30 days but I will err to the side of caution, so I will complete a week and see how I feel without caffeine. Today is my third day and I don't feel much difference, I substituted the coffee for decaf I hope I don't have to give that up.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Good call. Everyone is different. I did some quick research and couldn't find any article or study recommending more then 12 days unless you have an extreme addiction to caffeine. Ultimately you'll know when you're ready. In the meantime, study up!

    How many days since you start until you experience REM naps?

  • @rebeccapoole4478
    @rebeccapoole4478 6 лет назад

    I am really interested in trying polyphasic sleep so I can have some time by myself. My schedule only allows me segmented sleep. My main concern is my job is actually pretty relaxing I’m afraid I’ll fall asleep while working! Haha.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Segmented should be possible without falling asleep at work, unless you work in a sauna or unsupervised mattress store. What is your usual sleep amount right now? Mine was 7.5 hours a night before I started E3. If yours is 8 hours or less you'll likely have very little trouble adapting to segmented. The main struggle on that program is between the two sleep times, where your body is used to continuing your core sleep.

    • @rebeccapoole4478
      @rebeccapoole4478 6 лет назад

      Jake Bee I'm a massage therapist so yeah I work in a dark room and go into a meditative state most of the time unless the client likes talking. Right now I get between 4 and 8 hours. More than that is rare. I've been getting up around 7 or 8 am but it's going to bed at like 10pm that's difficult some nights.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Oh wow. I almost used massage therapist as one of my examples! Well, I think you'll be okay during the day on segmented. It's likely the in-between-cores time that you'll feel tiredness. Keep me updated :)

    Can a bodybuilder do this? Or will he not recover properly?

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      I was not lifting weights during adaptation, and wouldn't recommend it. you'd have to be taking a break or in a maintenance phase to adapt to polyphasic. When I did a hard workout during adaptation it almost knocked me out. I was pretty tired. I'd recommend adapting and then returning to your routine in the gym.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Also - E2 or siesta would be the most extreme you'd want to do, in order to ensure you get enough slow wave sleep. Hope this helps!

    Mate, i wonder how is your health condition after weeks of polyphasic sleep? ( i m interested in this )

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      I felt very good once I was adapted. I did put on some weight...maybe 5 lbs in a month. That was likely due to my diet going downhill in the second half of adaptation though.

  • @Cosjaysez
    @Cosjaysez 6 лет назад

    Hi Jake. thanks for your update . I'm on day 5 of polyphasic sleep. I'm pleased so far. After following your videos and learning how much a set back an oversleep would be, I have managed to stick to the plan more or less to the minute. Very tired after my core but I know I'm in a critical time for adaption. I've been falling asleep after 60s of lying down for a nap but wake up after 15 mins, which would suggest I'm going straight to REM but too early to repartition after 3-5 days?

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Cosjaysez. To be honest I wouldn't rule anything out. Have you napped in the past? Any history of polyphasic sleep? Some people adapt more quickly, although 5 days would be extremely fast. It is common to 'feel like you've adapted' in the first week, but then regress some in following weeks. Waking up early is a sign of adaptation though, so there is a chance. Please keep me updated, I'm interested to hear where you go from here. What schedule are you doing?

    • @Cosjaysez
      @Cosjaysez 6 лет назад +1

      Well, I have always been fond of a short nap every once in while, maybe that has helped. Another thing that has really helped me stick to the schedule is having the week booked off from work so in my weakest moments I have known that getting through this is my priority. I’m doing an Everyman 2 with a 4hr:30 core.
      I sleep from 22:30 until 3am ,
      1st nap is 7:00 - 7:30
      Second nap is 18:00 until 18:30
      I know the naps are not ideally spaced but, for the time being it is not possible for me to nap at work and this is the most achievable. Are you still caffeine free btw? I am still reliant on it at the moment especially at 3:15am but I think ideally I would like to cut down.

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +1

      Awesome! Thanks for the schedule info. Sounds like you just had the practice and you and your body already knew how to nap. I would drop it to 20 minutes on both naps. Once you hit adaptation you'll start creeping into SWS during naps and it is brutal trying to wake up from that. Better to be safe and keep them under 22 minutes. SWS starts around 25 minutes once you start adapting.

    • @Cosjaysez
      @Cosjaysez 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the heads up, I will look at adjusting this soon! I need to up my knowledge in that regard, I do find sleep stages fascinating like never before now that my changes are directly affecting me, Plus that an extra 20 mins to my day lol

    • @JakeBee

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад +2

      On the contrary! I think that would be an excellent use of the money. In fact, if a book like that exists, please share. I'd like to read it. I'm a strong believer that if you don't clearly understand two sides of an argument, you can't possibly know which side you're on.

      Jake Bee then again, if you're too lazy to read about poly you most likely won't succeed in doing it

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      That's a big assumption you're making based only on the fact that they chose to ask a question here (after I prompted them to by offering a prize).

    • @killevill
      @killevill 6 лет назад

      But that's saying something isn't it? Those people need a short-term reward to do something. If they've had those questions for a long time and only now ask them from a beginner (no offense) then how are they going to be able to deal with 30 days of intense pain and mental pressure?

    • @JakeBee
      @JakeBee  6 лет назад

      Intense pain? I think that's an exaggeration. I welcome adversity, but if you're only here to belittle my community I'd ask that you find somewhere else to get your fix. The questions they asked were non-critical and both are early in their process. Any time someone asks something I can't answer, I refer them to the discord channel.

      Hey Vlad. Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at Keto but with a family it means preparing an entire set of food independent of what they are eating.
