The three of them singing together all the time, no solos, no harmonizing was a trademark thing of Bananarama.
If you want to see more of them I would recommend "Cruel Summer" next. Their first international hit.
btw Stock, Atiken and Waterman were the ones who produced Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" and Donna Summer's "This Time I Know It's For Real" (among many MANY other huge hits - but those are the ones that you've reacted to thus far).
Stock Atkin and Waterman were trio of producers who changed the music from mid to late 80’s. Siobhan was married to Dave Stewart from The Eurythmics.
And Karen married Andrew Ridgley from Wham.

This was a cover of a 1969 hit by Shocking Blue. The Madonna album you're trying to think of is True Blue, released June 30, 1986. Stock Aitken Waterman hits were "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever" by Rick Astley, "You Spin Me Around Like a Record" and "Brand New Lover" by Dead or Alive "You Think You're A Man" by Divine, "I Should Be So Lucky" by Kylie Minogue, and "This Time I Know It's For Real" by Donna Summer. There's many more, too much to name here.
I watched the original Shocking Blue video on RUclips and it was pretty cool even for back then!!

So glad you are reacting to this track, I loved this track back in the day and would dance my ass off to it even had a routine!!! I still love this track it's so camp and over the top, reminds me of nights on the scene with my friends just dancing till we dropped. I love this track and the over the top video.Bananarama are still recording and touring and still making great pop music.This line up of the group were the first real girl group of the 80's

Bananarama had their first UK top 10 hit in 1981 with a collaboration with the group Fun Boy Three. Three years before Madonna made her debut.

man i ll never get out of that Era (and i don t want to )....the 80s were a BIG POT ,where Great music of ALL KINDS were created....starting from the beginnings to the end, you got TONS of Excellent productions ,in terms of melody,arrangement,instrumentation, catchy riffs and choruses..all synthesized in 3 minutes songs....plus the videos had that naive element ,of artists who were discovering new technologies and way to make videos, that sounded fresh and exciting.....i am an 80s child forever

Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman did stellar music in the 80s. They brought Kylie from actress to singer
Siobhan is pronounced "Sha-vorn". Bananarama were great because they never took themselves very seriously and always seemed to be having such fun. 'Cruel Summer' and 'Robert De Niro's Waiting' are my favourites.
This is song is epic 80's. Bananarama have many great songs. Love that they played the various characters too. And yeah, such a fun fact that Bruno Tonioli of DWTS fame choreographed the video.

Loved this song. Would always dance to it in the clubs. And I’ve loved all their stuff. Great group. Very representative of the 80’s. Stock Aiken and Waterman WERE the sound of 80’s pop for many years back then. They had a great formula and really knew how to make it work.

I bought the 12” of this. I was obsessed with this. The original 3 toured 2 years ago and I got to see them and do the “Venus dance” along with them. They are part of my 80s. Siobhan is pronounced “Shavonne”. A pretty common name back then ✌️

Siobhan Fahey is a nut job but her other band Shakespeares Sister put out one of the best albums of the early 90’s called Hormonally Yours. Check out the video Stay from that album. She is the one singing the dark parts.
Sock Aitkin and Waterman were tbe biggest record producers of tbe. 80s 84- 93 and still going strong with steps etc etc

You can thank Stock Aiken & Waterman for this sound...Dead or Alive were the first major successful group to use these producers. After Dead or Alive’s success, many got in line to collaborate with Stock Aiken & Waterman: Bananarama, Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue, Donna Summer. “Venus” is also a remake from Dutch rock band Shocking Blue, initially released as a single in the Netherlands in the summer of 1969.

Bananarama were originally with producers Jolley/Swain until they heard the Dead or Alive song 'You Spin Me Round' being played and decided they wanted to work with the same producers of that song who were Stock/Aitken/Waterman (SAW). (SAW were also the first producers that Kylie worked with for her first 4 albums). If you're interested in early Bananarama, I'd suggest 'Cruel Summer', 'Trick of the Night' or 'Robert De Niro's Waiting'. From their time with SAW, I'd suggest 'Love in the First Degree', 'I Heard a Rumour', 'I Want You Back', 'I Can't Help it' or 'Love Truth, and Honesty'. Bananarama are still going now (although they are just a duo these days) and are still churning out some great songs. From their post-SAW period, I'd suggest. 'Every Shade of Blue', 'Move in My DIrection', 'Look on the Floor', 'Love Comes', 'Love Don't Live Here' or 'Stuff Like That'.
Didn't they also do a re-make of California Dreaming back in the 90s?

Stock, Aiken, and Waterman were three different guys , who wrote, arranged, and produced songs for many, many artists. Some notable things that SAW produced include "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley," You Spin Me Round" by Dead Or Live, and the first two albums by Kylie Minouge. Some more great Bananarama songs to check out are "Cruel Summer" (best known for being in the original "The Karate Kid"), "I Heard A Rumor", and "Love In The First Degree". To see that early tomboy look that they sported in the beginning, check out "Shy Boy".
Yes, Madonna had had her breakthrough by this time. She was unquestionably adored and inspirational to contemporary artists.

Bananarama is STILL together and performing, mostly in Europe but the are back to the original members and look REALLY good and sound good too!! I just watched one of their videos from a few months ago on RUclips..
This is two years after the Madonna wannabe era. That was 84-85. Madonna actually lifted her look from them. All of Madonnas early looks were taken straight from early Bananarama. They are the most successful girl group in the UK. I saw them in 89 in LA. The album was one of my favorites. My favorite song on this album is “More Than Physical”. Their next album “Wow” was even more successful. Dead or Alive’s Turn Around and Count to Ten” was also Stock, Aiken & Waterman.
I remember watching this on tvhits as a child when it first came out. I love it but Cruel Summer is my fave of theirs.

Most 80s bands didnt have a budget for stylist's, wardrobe, set design etc when they started so they kept it simple and tried to style themselves. Made them very creative for sure.

i ABSOLUTELY LOVE "Twilight Zone" by Manhattan Transfer. Especially the remix by Jason Nevins. Probably the best remix of a disco classic I've ever heard! Check it out!

Concentrate...Keren Woodward (accent on the first syllable of each word); Sarah Dallin (accent on first syllable of surname, "a" as in cat; and ...drumroll...Siobhan Fahey (Shivorn - stress on second syllable - Farhee - stress on first syllable)...dead easy :-). I preferred their earlier stuff - "Shy Boy", "Robert De Niro's Waiting"...neither were big hits in the US (?), but they reached #4 and #3 in the UK in 1982 and 1983 respectively.
Venus was so commercial back then, they used it in Gillette commercials I think, ... Heavy air play on the radio... I was 8 and this played in my grade school like crazy

Even if it's a cover, for me "Venus" is the best Banarama song. Among my favorites there are also "Cruel Summer" (great tune), "Love In The First Degree" (infectious melody ! and funny music video but all their music videos are a lot of fun to watch), "I Want You Back", "Preacher Man" and "Long Train Running" (different but great too with flamenco guitars).

Bananarama were irreverent, Playful and..Wrote their own successful songs. Of course, here, they only covered VENUS. Their version brought everyone to the dance floor, back in the day and it was CONSTANTLY on the radio. And the video is 🔥🔥🔥

LOL Bananarama are the foundation/the reason why I love to do drag, Singing and dancing and having fun ...Keren is the brunette/ Sara is the long blond hair and Siobhan is the first wife of Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) I saw them in 1989 world tour, 1995 and 2018 reunion tour...this is their first collab with SAW. when they first recorded the track.. the girls after a listening they ask them to make is sound like You Spin Me Round by Dead or Alive (this is the first reason the girls hired SAW for their 3rd album).
I must say that you’re one of the best reactor to all the songs. As I was in my prime in the 80s you picked the best songs as number one on the charts.

Hey, Dereck! As you mentioned it, Venus was originally performed by Dutch rock band Shocking Blue. Bananarama had always wanted to record this song from their early days. However, their first producers Jolley & Swain turned down the idea. This led to Bananarama going after the producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman, having the vision of giving Venus a sound reminiscent of Dead or Alive's You Spin Me Round (Like a Record). As you mentioned it, Stock, Aitken & Waterman, first turned down the idea but the girls persisted being true to their vision and feeling very convinced that Venus could make a great dance record. The producers gave in, their version was recorded and the rest is history. There's a lot to recommend from Bananarama. We're talking about a 4-decade career and the band does still exist, yet as a duo. Even though their 80's stuff is a must to listen to and there's a lot to recommend (Bananarama still holds the record as the most successful British all-female band of all time), I am going to recommend a song of theirs called Every Shade of Blue. I know you love Euro dance and I'm sure you'll love that song. It's one of those underrated jewels. Please keep reacting to more Bananarama.

"Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett is as Halloweeny as you can get.
I wasn't much for the song but as a teen with hormones going crazy I loved the blonde in the middle with the torn jeans. The lady in the red devil latex was nice too.
Their in-sync style of singing together all 3 all the time is what made them stand out. They never for once took themselves seriously as vocalists. Bananarama were about fun music. Please react to my favorite by them 'Robert DeNiro's Waiting.
There is very interesting video on RUclips about Scott/Aitken/Waterhouse on how they started the trend of speeding up the BPM to start the hitmaking process for Bananrama, Kylie, Dead or Alive, Donna Summer and Rick Astley. It was a good watch.

Dereck, I LOOOOVE Bananarama! I was such a little gay boy. lol If you want to see something more modern of theirs that is great, and actually did pretty well on the dance charts (well, they played it at the clubs I went to) around 2005-ish, check out the song, Move in My Direction. Sorry bro...but these girls had this look long before Madonna jumped onto it.They held the record for the Most Successful Girl Group in music history for a while (until Destiny's Child, TLC and The Spice Girls came along). I believe they still are in the top 10. Bananarama used to do this song in their early club dates, and commissioned Stock Aitken & Waterman to produce a cover version for them after hearing "You Spin Me Around" by Dead Or Alive. Side note - The choreography for Bananarama and Wham! videos & live performances at this period was done by Bruno Tonioli (the very energetic Italian judge on "Dancing With The Stars" and "Strictly Come Dancing" in the U.K.)

Love this!! It's one my favorite songs from the '60s, by "Shocking Blue". Bananarama's version is very similar to the original, which is a very good thing. If you like this version by Bananarama, I pretty sure you'll like the original by Shocking Blue.

I'm not sure if the video or even song was considered simplistic back then. It's like saying cars or bicycles were simplistic in nature for transport. One has to remember what was available at the time for video shoots.
