Okay Derek my husband is a professional musician for 50 years this is going to blow your mind but John Travolta was not dancing to You Should Be Dancing when the movie was filmed. The Bee Gees music was not added until after post-production. He was dancing to some other song. I am not sure what it is. They wanted the Bee Gees to do the soundtrack for the movie so the Bee Gees came in heard the beat to the other song and made You Should be Dancing for the final film version. He also feels the part you didn't know about (if it was a guitar or keyboard) he feels that it is a guitar with a wah-wah pedal. They used organs and pianos in the 70s. Synthesizers came in after that. In the 80s with the keyboard. During the 60s and 70s anything that you heard and music was done by guitar players or drums there was not a lot of synthesizers around to make up beats. So let's hear it for the guitar players.
@@ladykuether1731 With all due respect, your husband is incorrect in thinking the Bee Gees "made You Should Be Dancing for the final film version." You Should Be Dancing was initially released from their Children of the World album (July 1976) and went to No. 1; then it, as well as Jive Talking from their 1975 Main Course [come-back] album, were re-released to both be included on the Saturday Night Fever album a yr and a half later. You/your husband may or may not be thinking of John Travolta's account of how >Staying Alive< was originally planned to be the main dance scene song, but Travolta told them he had been practicing dancing to You Should Be Dancing FOR WEEKS, AND ALL BUT BEGGED (the writer/directer/producer/R. Stigwood--or whoever) to use YSBD for the main scene. He was successful in convincing them, and consequently Staying Alive was placed at the beginning of the movie as he's strutting down the street with his paintcan. And the rest, as they say, is history!🎶🙂🎶

the 70s were the BEST decade for music!! so much creativity, talent, and diversity!! how lucky i grew up and experienced this time! no one left the floor when this played in the clubs!!
I love that their little brother, Andy, was with them. He was my idol when I was little. Too bad he died in 1988 at 30. I bawled my eyes out when he died.
Everyone that was blessed to have been born in the 60’s and 70’s became very familiar with The Bee Gees because their music was the staple of that time. Those days were music magic because of the Gibb brothers! Love The Bee Gees ❤️
That was John Travolta dancing in the movie "Saturday Night Fever" featuring many songs by the Bee Gees including this one, "Staying Alive" "Night Fever" and "How Deep Is Your Love" to name a few. I think this dance scene featuring "You Should Be Dancing" helped gain Travolta an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in the movie. It was unforgettable. You should watch the movie. Although there were many disco songs out by the time the movie was released, it helped cement the disco craze in the late 70's. A fun time for all us old geezers! Everybody wanted to be Travolta on the dance floor. lol
This was a concert in Houston in 1979..Their younger brother Andy joined them on stage for this number. Also John Travolta joined them on stage as he was in Houston at the time filming Urban Cowboy. This is my favorite BeeGees video. It's one of the few times Andy Gibb sang with them. If you look at Barry the video of the song To Love Somebody by the BeeGees in 1967, he looks just like Andy in this video. I was married with a toddler when he died and I still cried. He died on March 10, 1988. Cause of death was Myocarditis brought on by a viral infection. Most people recover from it, but Andy's body was unable to fight the infection, even with antibiotics due to his history of drug use. He died 5 days after turning 30 years old. He left behind a 10 year old daughter named Peta.

@yc919 Yeah, that's my favorite of Andy's hits. To me the best version is the LIVE VERSION ON DON KIRSHNER'S ROCK CONCERT on youtube. (Someone in the comments mentions the band is tight; and it is an amazing, >extended< version, very enjoyable. -- Andy's very young there, and it really takes us "young-at-heart's" [I was born same yr as Andy] back in time.😔)
Nothing like disco dancing...too much fun! Just makes me😃 Love that more people are listening to these songs again!! I have never seen the video. Looks like they are having so much fun just doing their thing...Awesome!

One of the most exhilerating records of the 70's and maybe the most exciting dance sequences in a movie, ever! There was no official video done for this song (strange, considering they did two videos for the previous album), but whoever put this video together did a great job combining footage from their 1979 US tour and Saturday Night Fever.
i consider myself very fortunate being a teenager in the 70's we had so many great artists to listen to, bee gees , donna summer, abba, carpenters, eagles ,electric light orchestra, queen this list is endless
This is a fantastic track by the Bee Gees! I'd love to see your reaction to "Love You Inside and Out." The Bee Gees get really funky on that one!! Also, "Tragedy" is another disco hit!!!
To this day and from the first time, many many moons ago that I heard this song, I start grooving. There is no way that you can't. To me, one of the greatest dance songs ever. And I loved that they used it in Despicable Me, lol.
Bee Gees are the heart and soul of Disco Music. I was in my 20's when they were popular - best dance music. Absolutely loved their song Nights on Broadway.
It was fun to disco to..im 70 yrs old and i was out there on the floor being taught how to disco needless to say i learned fast. Great times to look back on.
I was born in 82' and my mom grew up and danced in these clubs when this Disco music played. So I know ALL about the Disco Artists and Early 80s music. And I'm so thankful to her for introducing me to that kind of music and making me open to listen and experience ALL music. Also, music back then to I would say the late 90s, all had bands and/or ppl who could actually play instruments, not this computer/digital crap now. It was about REAL talent then.
I have danced (badly lol) to this in the clubs in the 70's for ages , One DJ had a copy that lasted for at least 20 mins!! take it from me it is soo good on the dance floor!!!!!
I'm 51 and grew up to their music... That still today it is still sounding current and is taken as reference by many artists today is a testimony in itself to the quality of their music. They influenced a lot the French disco era music too...
Andy Gibbs is their baby brother, and yes that him singing with them the youngest one, he died very young age the first brother who has past away, Andy Gibbs has beautiful vocal to just like his eldest big brother Barry Gibbs.
Barry's vocal capability was incredible far more than running from falsetto to the lower registers. He had very much a mimic capability. If you listen to any of their older music and even going into their country music you can hear his voice mimicking other singers. He does an interesting Michael Jackson sound as well. Course him and Michael were good friends and Michael spent a lot of time at his house in Miami. Barry's the bomb.
The song was a hit tearing up dance floors across the country. You're right. There was a longer dance mix version that was played by DJs in the clubs. Disco was made for dancing, so most artists had longer versions of their hits. Usually 7-10 mins long. Folks would seriously work up a sweat on the dance floor. Not surprising wearing all those double knit slacks and our polyester shirts with a ubiquitous silver or gold chain. That was the life at the end of a work week.
I love that you research the music of the songs & artists you react to. I’m sure others have responded asking for different Bee Gees songs, I want you to be aware that all 3 brothers sang lead vocals. Robin was lead more than Maurice, but they all had beautiful voices that were different than each other’s but blended for perfect harmonies. Robins’ voice lead in probably the most well loved of his songs is “I Started a Joke”. Maurices’ lead on “Closer than Close” & “Man in the Middle” were the most loved. I really hope to hear you react to more of the Bee Gees!
Okay Dereck....we are patiently waiting for you to drop the next Bee Gee hit, you have so many to choose from. My favourite to showcase Robin is For Whom the Bell Tolls, but it has to be the live version outside under the bridge, in New York I believe. (Sorry, I could be wrong on the location). Also check out 'How can you Mend a Broken Heart' my Dad's fav song. I remember waking up to it every Sunday morning as my Dad did his woodworking. You can see from the older video how new they are. These guys are Legendary, pure and simple. Music done naturally with just talent, that's it
If you noticed Andy Gibb with the brothers Gibb you didn't mention it! He was my favorite part of this video, his youth and energy brought a little extra something to this video. I did enjoy the video, thank you once again!
What is so extraordinary about the BeeGees was their talent for song-writing smash hits that only they could sing. Their production skills only got better and better through the decades. Layers and layers of sound. God bless them for giving us so much wonderful, stirring, gorgeous music! (btw, You Should Be Dancing was their signature song.) You forgot to mention Andy Gibb, the youngest brother, who had his own solo career, never formally joined the BeeGees though the brothers wanted him with them. Andy's music was heavily influenced by his brothers and worth a listen.
You appear to have some musical appreciation, and it's nice to see that you can hear everything as intended. You caught the nuances of the piece! I was a kid when this came out (too young for the disco's) but I remember it very well. This is when bands were judged on raw talent, no autotone, no sampling, or computers, just pure musicality. Glad to see a younger generation who loves it as much as we did when it came out.
Robin did some lead back in the 60's.. and they were great songs.. Obviously, Barry was the lead in the Disco era.. I'm so happy that you just gave some Kudos to Maurice.. I feel sometimes like he's the forgotten brother.. Andy,, they baby, had his own career.. but he wouldn't have had his career without his older brothers.. but no one talks about Maurice.. he was instrumental also in the rise to fame they had.. Thank you for recognizing him.
So glad I found you...thought I was the only one who reacted this way to music...hearing the instruments and voices..I can listen 10 times and still be in awe of musicians and singers...freaking love the Bee Gees🎹🥁🎷🎶🎙
For me this is one of the best dance tracks of the Disco era. If you want to see their progression into their funkier sound which led to this check out 'Jive Talkin' by them from 1975.
You can thank Mo always for those funky beats. Such an underrated bass player! Its amazing to remember how many songs these guys wrote and arranged lets not forget. Barry suggested over 1000 songs. But the arrangements and playing instruments as well! The amount of underrated talent here is verging on ridiculous!! I love these guys and I am so proud to be a fan. I wish it was popular to say that when I was a teen in the 80's but it was not and I regret that so much. Nobody does it like the Bee Gees end of story. Hi from Canada, love your show!!
The best reaction videos to this song by far! You my friend, understand all the details of the vocals and instrumentation that no one other reactor does,so you do real justice to some songs that other reactors value as just "bangers". This song has far more quality than a "banger"has. The number of instruments playing is crazy! Am I exaggerating?
Disco was the best. They should bring it back. I went to the same primary school as the Bee Gees. We lived in a very poor area. So their success is even more amazing.
Others to check: Bee Gees “nights on Broadway” (pre- Saturday Night Fever”) and “for whom the bell tolls” (from 1993). Thanks for this!! They were amazing.
This was great because the Youngest brother Andy was singing with them.

They were the bomb and dominated 70’s music 👍🏻 Saturday Night Fever is the best selling soundtrack of all time and rightfully so 👍🏻
They also had dionne warwick , barbra streisand and others sings their songs
If you noticed Andy Gibb with the brothers Gibb you didn't mention it! He was my favorite part of this video, his youth and energy brought a little extra something to this video. I did enjoy the video, thank you once again!
"I wanna move like that." That step is called "The Break" and there are other versions of that. I used to move like that...and more.
Yes disco was full orchestras, guitars and talent. They were the high point of disco that morphed into house.
And you got the fourth brother Andy Gibb!! That's right four of these guys..👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤❤
My all-time favorite Bee Gee song is Too Much Heaven.
Mine too. Too Much Heaven!
The bass line and the arrangement is just pure genius.
Sweetie, it takes Maurice, Robin and Barry. Thanks for your great reactions,💞💞💞
This is awesome with all four Gibbs.
Classic an just gets better you listen to.. earth wind and fire ! Boogie wonder land and September.. Disco classics you must listen to these tracks x
"frick'n love it" 😂🤣😂🤣go puppy...goooooo! 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
You should listen to "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever". Two other great disco songs. I think you gonna love them.
For me this is one of the best dance tracks of the Disco era. If you want to see their progression into their funkier sound which led to this check out 'Jive Talkin' by them from 1975.
All four brothers were in this one Andy Gibb had joining them Andy had a awesome career also. I wish all four we together more.
Great era...loved your reaction
The number of instruments
playing is crazy!
Am I exaggerating?
'Jive Talking' is another great dance tune from The Bee Gees.
Disco was fun!!!
Doesn't get any better BGs & Travolta 💃🕺
Nice that Andy joined them on this ÀMAZIÑG SONG 🎸🎵🎶♩🎤♩👣👣👣
Andy ❤️ i love the Bee Gees!! they have sooooo many great songs they never get old! ... listen to staying alive and night fever
This song.... and others by the BeeGees.... in the movie, Saturday Night Fever... totally revived their career/s. It was a MONSTER movie !!!!
Disco was the best. They should bring it back. I went to the same primary school as the Bee Gees. We lived in a very poor area. So their success is even more amazing.
"I don't have pants on, so I can't get up," lol... :D though same, same... lol
Others to check:
Bee Gees “nights on Broadway” (pre- Saturday Night Fever”) and “for whom the bell tolls” (from 1993). Thanks for this!! They were amazing.
Ahhhh baby brother Andy is there, mom must have been so proud of her boys 🥹🥹🥹
