John Travolta worked on that dance for 10 months. It was cut from the movie originally but when he saw the pre-screen and saw it wasn't in there, he was pissed. He insisted it be put back in. Smart move. It's one of the most iconic dance scenes ever.
I agree. I saw it as a teen in Brooklyn when it came out at the Loews Albemarle on Flatbush Ave. The theatre was certainly alive during this scene! For me, however, the "More Than A Woman" dance scene still does it for me. I guess you had to be there.

YES!!! The dance floors were lit and the tables were just a place to park your drinks and your coat because we never sat down!!! Hit the club at 9pm and left at 3am. Never. Sat. Down! The men all danced instead of standing around just holding beers. I was 16, 17 and life was gooood! So happy to see you both appreciating a group like the Bee Gees and an era that was so much fun!!!!💖💖
Yeah, those disco dance floors where you're dancing on different colored flashing lights under foot were a real thing, along with sudden releases of dry-ice smoke filling the dance floor. I was too young to go to adult discos at this time, but there were "teen nights" at local amusement parks that would feature disco setups for us and yeah, there were lit-up dance floors, dry-ice smoke, mirrored "disco balls" (which had been revived from the 1930s-40s Big Band era), etc. It was fun, but no, we didn't all dance like that. Some did, but not many. Most of us did disco line dances like versions of the Hustle and the Bus Stop. As others here are saying, that dancer is John Travolta in the 1977 movie "Saturday Night Fever."

Samantha Sang had a hit in the '70's with the BeeGees doing back up with a song called Emotion. She could have easily been a BeeGee sister, her voice blends so well with them.
Yup, we really danced like that, even in the 80's. I spent at least one night a week at the club back in the day, and at least 3/4th of the time was spent dancing. And I agree with that ya'll need to hear "I started a Joke" and "Massachusetts" which puts Robin in the lead singer seat. They were all phenomenal singers.

Are we ever going to get a Bee Gees reaction with Robin on lead vocals. You’re missing out on his beautifully aching voice. Just in case “I Started A Joke” and “Massachusetts” 🙏🏼😉
"Saturday Night Fever" has a couple of the most iconic dance scenes in movie history and the "You Should Be Dancing" scene is one of them! "More Than a Woman" (another BeeGees song) is the other one. The entire movie is essentially a tribute to the disco era (the film's soundtrack is amazing and still one of the best-selling albums in history).
Except for Frank Zappa's parody: Bald Headed Woman, I agree. My wife got the Bee Gee's greatest hits and You Should Be Dancing was. like, the last song on Disc 1; I hadn't heard this tune in DECADES (an over reaction to Disco I guess...) but I was amazed how driven and dynamic the song was==I didn't even know Andy took part in recording it.
No, Andy was a drop-in guest for that night's concert. Even Travolta dropped by once. He didn't record this with them. IF Andy had lived and not suddenly died a few days after his 30th birthday in 1988, he would have officially joined the Bee Fees that year. That was the plan.
Happy Anniversary!! Love the Bee Gees. They are so smooth, classic. My daughter always tells me not to dance and point my fingers, lol. But John Travolta did it. Homeboy is John Travolta .
This is the movie that put the BeeGees in iconic status! They had at least 6 hits off this movie soundtrack! And yes John Travolta did all of the dancing. He practiced a lot. They talked about how much he practiced for these parts! It truly wasn’t a disco without a lit plexiglass dance floor and disco ball with lights.
Danny Terio worked with Travolta to get the dancing down. He watched Travolta's natural movement and built the dances around those abilities. Danny was the dancing king back then. Not sure I spelled his name correctly. And, this is not technically disco. But, you sure can dance to it..to steal a line from American Bandstand. And.. yes...the floors were like that and we wore dresses that twirled for dancing.
That was John Travolta dancing in the hit movie "Saturday Night Fever", at the height of the Disco era! And yes, the dance floors really were lit up like that! One of my favorite dance clubs here in Oklahoma had a huge lit-up dance floor like that. So much fun! Thanks for your reaction!
My absolute favorite BeeGees song! My friends daughter got married a few years ago ( she's in her 20's) and this song came on for everyone to dance to, and all of us old schoolers (40' and 50's) got up immediately and started dancing like there was no tomorrow! The 20 somethings just sat there and thought we were all crazy!
You Should Be Dancing was released in 1976 by the older brothers Bee Gees. What you're watching is a Bee Gees concert in 1979, which Andy Gibbs made an appearance (after having debuted as a successful solo artist).
Oh yes, that was the standard for dance clubs in the mid-70's, the era of Disco. At the end of the night, everyone was a sweaty mess. The BeeGees got on the soundtrack for the movie Saturday Night Fever and the rest is history. Put John Travolta on the map (those scenes were of him dancing in the movie).
Not everyone danced (or could dance) like John Travolta, but many tried! Lighted dance floors were out there in some places, and many more showed up after the movie "Saturday Night Fever" became a hit! John Travolta (or his choreographer) came up with the iconic "Disco Point" that everyone does when they hear a disco song. It was the album cover on the soundtrack of the movie, which y'all need to check out!
I have only subscribed to one reaction channel but your words during this fabulous performance by one of my all time favs...has convinced me. I am now subscribed to 2 reaction channels. I was blessed to grow up listening to the BeeGees...I had a t shirt of theirs and I wore the thing til it fell apart 😊. It's so refreshing to see people of your age appreciating "real" music. I've tried to get my son interested and he just doesn't understand that it took real talent...not a computer. Keep on keeping on 💙
Quick fact: They originally wanted to use a dance double for Travolta's character in SNF, but he went off and trained like mad when he got the role and was consequently able to do all the dancing himself. And it really added to the movie because they could shoot him Fred-Astaire style in full figure. If you haven't seen the movie, you should. It's era-defining, and Travolta is almost preposterously beautiful in it.
Omg I miss those days!! Yes we did dance like that and we hit the disco every weekend..we did line dancing also like doing the hustle, we had a blast the 70s was the best time to be a teen..between the disco songs and the rock songs we had the best music also..I think it's to cool that you 2 love the music of that era.
Happy Anniversary!!! And yes, that's what it was like during the 'disco' movement...lol... I'm still waiting for you guys to react to The Bee Gee's, 'Nights On Broadway' live from The Midnight Special!!
Happy Anniversary! Amber, you have to do Samantha Sang - "Emotions" as a celebration gift to Jay for Female Friday. - That's John Travolta dancing. - Yes, discos had dance floors like that. - John Travolta actually had a top ten hit song in the 70's "Let Her In" you should check out.
Disco was my favorite time. My late husband and I were dance teachers and danced everyday . The Bee Gees were the greatest. And yes there were dance floors that lite up. People dressed up . And energy was high ❤️🕺🏼💃
"What you doin' on your bed on your back? Ah" 😆 . Just last year, my wife, I, and a couple of friends were riding in the car listening to this song, and we all wondered what the Bee Gees were saying during that part of the song. We're all over 50 and have been listening to this song since we were children. We looked up the lyrics and we all just howled with laughter. We had no idea that's what they were saying. Now whenever we hear it, we all just fall out laughing!!! So funny!
THIS, this video right here is why I absolutely LOVE you two! I quite literally got up and danced a bit with your chair dancing!!! Thank you so very much for the last year, here's to many many more!! Blessings 💜
You Should Be Dancing is from the Album, Children of the World, and was #1 on the BillBoard Hot 100 September 4, 1976. The song was also included on the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack from 1977, as was Jive Talkin", a #1 hit from August 1975.
Great reaction Amber and Jay, can't go wrong with the Bee Gees. One more you might get a kick out of (as you reacted to them recently) is the Foo Fighters version of this where they brand themselves as the "Dee Gees" (David Grohl) featuring the Foo Fighters as you've never heard them (David singing the falsetto parts and of course Taylor Hawkins on the drums).
I would like to put you both in a time machine and send you back, so you could experience and feel the wonders of the music back then !Yes We danced like that...some of us still do! You both would have fit in so well back then! and watching you makes me feel it all over again and in my mind I'm dancing on a lighted floor, under a sparkling ball, And all is right with the world Because I'm dancing to the best music in the world!
A great performance to listen to is "Nights on Broadway" live on the Midnight Special. Barry sings in his normal voice, Robin shares the lead vocals, and Maurice sings the falsetto near the end of the song. Great showcase of their talents!
Great reaction! I wish disco could come back. People would be so much happier and healthier to just dance. Barry was almost electric in this performance.
This song, by far, is the epitome of what disco is!!! It is THE disco song!! Nothing else like it ever again. It defines the vibe that was disco music. And that’s coming from a lifelong metal head!! Lol
I was 10 years young when I heard this song for the 1st time. I was blown away, I could not wait for you should be dancing to play on the radio. What a sensational feeling.
If you're looking for an amazing falsetto, you really need to react to "Sherry" by the Four Seasons. Frankie Valli had one of the best falsetto voices around. And yes, discos had dance floors like that.
Saturday Night Fever, saw this movie in theaters about 5 or 6 times, I learned all the dance moves and taught family and friends how to disco dance!! Great memories!! Awesome reactions guys!! 😊💓🤘✌️ Oh Happy Anniversary!!
If you ever come across a body and are unsure if the person is unconscious or deceased, simply play this song. I don’t think any living person-conscious or unconscious-can keep from moving once they hear this song. It doesn’t matter what your music taste might be, your body will respond to this song. The BeeGees truly were masters of their art.
To answer Amber's question, yes, there were clubs just like that. I was a semi-hippy nerdy engineering student from the Midwest whose musical taste ran to Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, but in the early summer of 1974 - before I knew what disco was - I took a trip out east to look at Grad Schools, and I stopped to visit my college roomie at his hometown in Fishkill New York in the Hudson Valley. All the time I was driving I remember my am radio playing the Hues Corporation song "Rock the Boat" - which was early disco.. I found it slightly annoying, but it got in my head nonetheless --- One night, my roomie took me on a drive toward the Big Apple - not in to the city, but fairly close to it, and we went in a dance club. I'd never seen anything like it - guys in colorful silk-print shirts, girls all in shimmering dresses and high heels - a disco ball spinning, scattering light all around, and yes - an elevated dance floor with colored lights flashing underneath in a square grid. Pounding dance beats with strings and horns. Lots of dancing. This was about 3 years before the Saturday Night Fever movie & soundtrack came out, but the New York area was leading the trend. I wasn't hip enough to be part of it, but I can testify - it was real... all that was really going on.
Happy anniversary! Now, there used to be a time when music was fun, and that's how it should be. With meaning, no bad words or cursing, and putting people down. I really miss music being what I define as normal, and just good pure fun.
Yes..from the movie Sat.nite fever...the dance floor at Night Fever - kingsway hotel - Edmonton Canada...had same floor 78" - 84..Yes we danced every nite like Tavolta💥 Thx 4 memories❤❤❤ Prof. Walt
This song is my current earworm. I grew up with it and I am as enchanted with it now as I was as a teen in the 70's. I've been watching several reaction videos like yours and it's so great to see people your age bouncing to this; it really is that kind of a song!
Pretty amazing they had already written the songs for this movie BEFORE their manager even asked them about doing it. Like ‘poof’, manager says I want you to write songs for a movie about this New Yorker entering a dance competition and the brothers say ‘well we are actually working on this album’ and it was the soundtrack to the movie.
You need to watch the Bee Gees live in Vegas... Don't Throw it All Away... It's a dedication to Andy and they use video and vocals from Andy. It's like they're singing together again.
If you haven't already, watch the movie, "Saturday Night Fever". That was John Travolta dancing in this clip from the movie, and the Bee Gees did the movie soundtrack. Huge movie for John Travolta, and lots of radio air play for the Bee Gees. 1977 was a big year for disco music.
The BeeGees never get OLD, they stay young forever. Since Amber is wearing a Stevie Nicks shirt, I suggest her hit "Talk To Me." Thanks! John Travolta sure killed it.

The 70s 70s 70s 70s 70s LOL OOOOOYAAAH Best dance songs EVEEEEER Staying Alive,, Play that funky music ,, Brick house
Louisville Ky, had "Whispering Hills" which had the light up dance floor.. so many great nights

@@Sportsref13 we had "Charley Bear's up here in Columbus Ohio
That era can't be beat. 70s greatest singers ever, ever
That's disco Era in its finest ! Music, dancing, singing and lighting
"That boy" is John Travolta in one of the most famous movies of the 70s. The soundtrack is still a top 5 selling album.
I guess they don’t watch movies
NUMBER 2
My absolute favorite BeeGees song! My friends daughter got married a few years ago ( she's in her 20's) and this song came on for everyone to dance to, and all of us old schoolers (40' and 50's) got up immediately and started dancing like there was no tomorrow! The 20 somethings just sat there and thought we were all crazy!
I had it at both my weddings lol. Those youngsters missed out on heaps of great music
She is fire like and comment ruclips.net/video/rk6Qd3VBU48/видео.html
The Bee Gees never disappoint when it comes to Music 🎶
I chose this song at my son’s wedding. People almost created havoc getting on the dance floor. Not an empty seat in the room 😅
I danced on lighted dance floors in the '70s.
It's not the floor that lights up it's the lighting above the floor that causes that effect.
My boyfriend’s roommate could give John a run for his money. Scott could dance! No jealousy from my BF when we danced together. He was just that good.
Can’t beat The BeeGees for dancing music! 👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
The harmony of these brothers...in falsetto...unmatched.
Keep on keeping on 💙
Those disco days were fantastic! The music, clothes, guys knew how to dance and it was party time all night!
Jay/Amber, their "To Love Somebody" and "Stayin' Alive" are next for you!! Love the Sister Rosetta Tharpe shirt!
She is Sharp! But, her name is Tharpe!
@@mr.marcus3123 thank you. fixed
Yes , I been to a lot of clubs with the lights for dance floors !🕺
This song is still Phenominal after all of these years! The 70s truly were A Happening!! You really just HAD to be there!!
Totally
I Was I wish the time now was back in the 70s The most fun i have ever had
Omg, YES!!! And DeeGees Shadow Dancin with Taylor on vocals! 🤩 Just gutted about such a tragic loss 😭💔
I was totally going to recommend this, too! It’s so good. Haha.
Yes, yes, yes! Barry Gibb was quite honored that the Foos did this. They did a whole album called "Hail Satin" and it's great!!
You should check out Bee Gees Wonder Wall . By Joshua Woo . He's a Streamer on Twitch. For all you Falsetto needs 👍😘
My favorite song from The Bee Gees and this part of Saturday Night fever 🔥🔥🔥
A great performance to listen to is "Nights on Broadway" live on the Midnight Special. Barry sings in his normal voice, Robin shares the lead vocals, and Maurice sings the falsetto near the end of the song. Great showcase of their talents!
I’ve been WAITING for them to get to that one. And Fanny Be Tender.
Great recommendation
I agree - another great song you should listen to!
Love the Bee Gees from their 60s sound right through! Great singers, musicians and composers! Awesome!
Great reaction! I wish disco could come back. People would be so much happier and healthier to just dance. Barry was almost electric in this performance.
Then it switched to C&W,disco era was over,
This song, by far, is the epitome of what disco is!!! It is THE disco song!! Nothing else like it ever again. It defines the vibe that was disco music. And that’s coming from a lifelong metal head!! Lol
Absolutely bang on....peak disco!
YES, THERE WERE DISCO FLOORS LIKE THAT!!!! PRETTY PSYCHEDELIC!!!😜😜😜😜
I know Andy LOVED this. He wanted to be in the group with his brothers...
❤❤❤❤
He did and Barry wanted him to be in the band but Robin pushed back on that so it never happened, then it was too late.😂
I love the ‘kids’ finding disco again. Such fun
We TRIED to dance like that! Hah! And yes, many discos had light up floors.
THEY WROTE THE DISCO SCENE!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Saturday Night Fever, saw this movie in theaters about 5 or 6 times, I learned all the dance moves and taught family and friends how to disco dance!! Great memories!! Awesome reactions guys!! 😊💓🤘✌️
Oh Happy Anniversary!!
Listen to The Bee Gees “to love somebody”. Probably the best written song of all time. And not your typical bee gee disco song. This one is from 1967
Agreed. Then do Keith Urban’s version at their tribute event. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Legends❤
If you ever come across a body and are unsure if the person is unconscious or deceased, simply play this song. I don’t think any living person-conscious or unconscious-can keep from moving once they hear this song. It doesn’t matter what your music taste might be, your body will respond to this song. The BeeGees truly were masters of their art.
💖💖💖 *THE BEE GEE'S ARE LITERALLY TIMELESS* 💖💖💖

Yep, Saturday Night Fever. And yes, they danced ike that in Studio 54 mainly because they were lining coke like it was party treats.
Yes..from the movie Sat.nite fever...the dance floor at Night Fever - kingsway hotel - Edmonton
Canada...had same floor 78" - 84..Yes we danced every nite like Tavolta💥
Thx 4 memories❤❤❤

This song is my current earworm. I grew up with it and I am as enchanted with it now as I was as a teen in the 70's. I've been watching several reaction videos like yours and it's so great to see people your age bouncing to this; it really is that kind of a song!
Barry Gibb is a very prolific song writer as well. He wrote for everyone, including the Dolly Parton/Kenny Rogers duet, Islands in the Stream.
Popular when I was in high school and was fortunate enough to get into Studio 54 in 1978. Seems like yesterday
Yes, the floors were lit and moved with the music! It was enchanting. Spent every weekend dancing at Crazyhorse in Kent, OH
Yes we danced like that and clubs looked just like that
If you haven't already, watch the movie, "Saturday Night Fever".
YES! 🔥🔥🔥
Saturday Night Fever was HUGE.❤🥳 John Travolta was AWESOME!❤
LOVE the Bee Gees❤
LOVE Saturday Night Fever❤
