the fact that he instantly understood her entire thought process is really cool too. he knows that she saw the tactic but just missed the second defender
this interaction was really cool in multiple ways - firstly, that Knight was integral to the final winning attack, it wasn't just a random Knight blunder, Dada might have lost her whole attack if Mike hadn't pointed out his Queen - but secondly, if the Black Queen just wasn't on the board, that tactic would have been really really good
Also she hit the clock. And Accidentally ran down Mikes time but either way he is a great teacher in his own right playing with kids

The long distance diagonal backwards is the hardest thing to notice. You're used to attacking forward, and being attacked forward.
I think Mike is awesome playing with kids, he is really likeable.

Especially when he told her to take a “a game-ending mistake away” back because she didn’t want to do that. Way to encourage. I love all these park player champions. They’re really enjoyable, even when they lose. Because, honest, we all want to someone take these kings down. And the fact that they live it,, really, makes them awesome ppl in my eyes.

I just realized after coming back from reply notifications... that right at 7:01 you see that she realized that he "forgot" to ever start her clock and then he calls her out for smiling, because he knows that she finally caught on to his "mistake".

Yeah, and I actually think that's why she's smiling when he asks her why she's smiling. She noticed his time was running during her play when she went to hit the button.

When Dada takes a long pause, and then dances in her seat a bit, it's game over. Mike is a great teacher..... I mean that in a serious way: she and Golan will have so much confidence in life by their experience with this group of people. Very cool to see.

Couldn't agree more, what Mike, and all the others are doing is teaching the young ones how to take the "heat" and not fold under the pressure and stick to their guns and trail of thought.
These kids have the potential to become GM's, I think we will see more of them in the future.
I dont know much about chess, but I know a lot about people, and Mikes a good one.

I like how despite being this trash talker Mike still lets the clock run on his side and corrects her errors because he cares more about having a good game for both of them than winning.
Mike gave Dada a minute and a half of his time. I'd say he's nice.
I think Dada is my favorite player. She's so understated! In this game Mike actually lets her take back a mistake (7:45), and further that's after she taps the clocks and so he didn't actually lose on time either (and when he says 'your move' he glances at the clock so I think he knows it). Mike is really guiding her along this time, but this is the only time I've seen her not earn her very numerous wins. Kudos to Mike to being such a great sport and coach, and props to Dada for being brilliant.
Exactly. I pick up that Mike takes his role as a teacher with many kids. I wish I could find the game but Golan was in one of those little kid moods and Mike got on him about "Look at the board!" and then made Golan replay a couple of moves. Seriously, I wish I had adult friends like that, when I was a kid.
Ya it looked like he made it fun for her.
She also hung her knight on the rim at 1:40. Mike could have had a free pawn with a discovered attack. Then at the end Mike told her to capture with the rook at not the knight. That was completely going into overboard trying to give her the game. Even if she captures with the knight it should have been an easy win even after he got in a meaningless check with his queen.
@@ckobo84 this is also why you can't really estimate the skill of those players. All their solidness would burst instantly if an opponent tried to use their mistakes.

I love the talent of this little girl. I wish I could play as well as she does but Mike is such a good, kind man giving a little grief but also much encouragement along the way. In life there are times when winning is far less important than the good you can do being a wonderful human being. I think Mike figured that out long ago.

When Mike first appeared the stream, he was always yelling at this opponents w his catch phrases. I felt like he was annoying and rude. BUT I love it when he plays kids. I believe he really has a loving and kind heart and it shows more when his opponents are kiddos.

Interesting that Mike is almost a master psychologist in the way he banters with these kids. He makes them think, but despite his gruffness I don't think anyone has ever seen him as malicious. I wonder how many winners he has helped create over the years, not just in chess but in life.
