I absolutely love how much respect Levy has for Gia. He sees some of what moves she may make, but she definitely sees a few moves ahead of him and he's like "damn, you are a professional"
Funfact: This type of nervousness around stronger players was the reason many players disliked and some players outright hated playing Judith Polgar or Gary Kasparov. Anand was infamous for often being intimidated by Kasparov which contributed at least to some crushing losses Anand had against him. Psychology plays a certain role despite all the rationalization and professionalism over the board. Kramnik at one point gave an extensive interview talking about how he won against Kasparov in 2000, and admitted that it was mostly a psychological trap since Kasparov, the best player of all time, was so much stronger (Kasparov 2849, Kramnik 2770). The thing with the Berlin defense appeared fairly late during his preparation, roughly 6 weeks before the match, more like an accident, but an accident Kramnik jumped on and made a key to ambush Kasparov. The general plan was to play things Kasparov did not excel in or did not like. Sounds simple but Kramnik said in regular tournament chess exactly that was very difficult to do because Gary was (and kind of still is) the leading expert in the Najdorf and the Grünfeld. He also said Gary was the significantly better player and he needed to shock-attack him, gain +0.5 or +1 and hold on to it like there is no tomorrow, which has to do with the statistic nature of chess. Even a player that much stronger struggles with equalizing in only 15 games ...and this is why since 2000 the chess world championship was never again the match of the definitive 2 best players nor was the world champion always clearly the best classical chess player. 12 games is not enough to determine that. 24 is slightly better but technically still not enough to minimize statistical variance. Kramnik also hoped that Kasparov would be more occupied than usual and not sit at the board at his 100% due to all the press work of the world champion and by the fact that Kasparov was involved in the improvement of chess engines via consulting work. Some of the preparation also went against the Najdorf-Sicilian and the Grünfeld-Indian. Kramnik also said that he knew Kasparov was at that time already heavily relying on engines but back then certain things were out of the understanding and beyond the capabilities of those engines so that he tried to achieve positions in which engine preparation would not help Kasparov. Overall, Kramnik succeeded by putting together this very specific anti-person strategy...he was one of the few players openly saying "I am not afraid of Kasparov. Let him do his gesturing at the board. I sometimes enjoy it when he makes a face because i may have made a good move he did not anticipate as much.". However, Kramnik winning led to the absolute BONKERS situations that until Kasparov's retirement in 2005 the BY FAR and UNDISPUTED best player in the world was not world champion, plus, all the obnoxious antics, politics and intrigues by FIDE to stall and to prevent a re-match so Kasparov could never win his title back... I can understand Magnus not being happy with the world championshop mode. And I agree with Kasparov and Karpov who both say the mode should be like back in the days: Play until a certain amount of wins, e.g. +6, draws do not count, have a decisive lead over your opponent, e.g. +2 or +3 (6-2, 6-3), and just have a large but limited amount of games allowing to determine the true best player in classical chess, e.g. 50 games, 60 games, maybe 80 games. Play for the title only every 3 to 4 years. That would make it a real high-end battle.
I tell my gf every time. I beat her most times just because I can keep my cool and stay put when things get nasty for me, even if I'm losing, so I eventually turn things around, meanwhile she is getting frustrated and sees how an almost certain victory gets dragged and consumed in time. That's when she makes a mistake. It's like in arm wrestling, you can win by purely exhausting your opponent

your Mom is such a sweetheart!!!! Love hearing what she's thinking while she plays!
At 9:45 when mom said "This is what Polgar played with me the first time", Levy's mood completely changed 😂
Susan Polgar - to avoid misunderstandings. I'm not sure if she ever played against Judit.
Why's that?
Probably about when he was born.
I thought it was judit thanks
@@v4vun He was just having fun with the opening but Pia (since she already played this line) has a deep theory about it.
Pia's thought filled, soft spoken mumblings are a chess lover's ASMR gold mine! just delightful
Yes im here for the asmr and (i know its not possible) i pray for her to start a asmr channel or just a regular channel (because shes so calm and has a very smooth voice) shes amazing!

Pia is so humble and Levy has so much respect for her. A very interesting encounter. Thanks Anna for this 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Levy does know his place
He can talk shit and be over the top - but he can read people and can respect others very much.
Although Levy sometimes seems rude for the sake of content, I do think he is a very kind person at heart
And obviously GM Pia is just so extremely calming and gentle. I love this, you can't not show her respect 😊
This is the first video I’ve ever been able to hear two great players play both talking out loud the whole time. It all went over my head but was still so cool
I love when your Mom and GothamChess play together - both great players and kind people. Make another video of them together!
This video has the most relaxed energy ever. Your mom talking quietly to herself. Levy just enjoying the moment. Lovely people, lovely interaction.
Pia: sits at the board.
Levy: *why do i hear boss music?*
No one nose why
Eye know why
@@tyler1655 Don’t keep it secret - mouth the reason why.

This was such an amazing match to watch. I love that levy was going all out on attacks while pia was silently planning her moves.

Blud wrote a novel💀
80 games of several hrs each is mind melting for even the top GMs. It would be a test of endurance more than chess ability.
This must’ve been recorded in NYC considering sirens blaring every other minute.
thanks for a very informative and interesting comment
Levy perfectly explains why his vs GM performance is so much worse than it should be for his skill level. He gets nervous and loses confidence.
Uggghh she is good. I would love to see her get a 20 or 30 or 60 minute match vs some people. She seems to love setting up rock solid positions
8:23 "do I have 9 seconds?" casually plays killer move
You absolutely need to start an ASMR channel with Pia narrating chess with a whisper.
I absolutely adore Pia. She is my favorite player period. So kind.
I like that after the friendly match ends, regardless who wins, they still are talking about positions and whatnot. Dedication to the craft.
Pia is so nice while she takes your soul. She's so sweet about it that you thank her for it when it's done.
I love how Pia with a very calming voice just completely dismantles Levy.
I could listen to her talk all day🥴
I loved every minute of this. So cool to observe the interplay of personality and chess skills of these two. I only wish this video were longer.
Levy almost panicked early in the first game, but Pia and Anna kept him occupied and he calmed and started enjoying the game. All around wholesome. And Pia's playing style is remarkable!
She’s so generous speaking her thoughts aloud.
Never seen Levi like this before. The respect he got for Anna's mom, how he maintains himself and play is such a classy side of Levi I haven't seen before. This chess game is super fucking wholesome and descriptive/representative for the chess times we're in. Love everything about this vid
You make it less wholesome by swearing.

You and your mom have the best positive attitudes. True chess queens
I sometimes cant believe thats Anna's mother. She has such a calm, soothing voice! 😂
Such back-handed shade, lol.
This was some next level Chess ASMR from a GM lol
When you make your move and Pia says "yes," it's a wrap.
I loved this. Mom is so sweet and this guy was lovely too. So nice to see.
Watching them play is how i picture me and another 300 rated beginer looking stressfully and trying not to blunder
Can we appreciate how gentle Pia is, with the clock button.

She just seems like a gentle soul in general. She seems like such a nice person... So calming and centred
and levy slams it every other move lmaooo

My feeling exactly 😇I also love her keeping on explaining her thoughts, making it so much more instructive to watch. A kind and enlightening vibe she spreads 💛.

Your mother is so sweet to watch. Such a calm, intelligent person. It's wonderful to watch her. Especially, since, I would assume, she hasn't played competitively in years.
Nice games! It’s crazy how good Pia is at blitz when she really just plays classical
She's been playing chess for decades... I doubt she doesn't have experience in blitz.
@@kristianbasile7141 She probably has some experience, but I don't think she spends much time on it at all. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've heard Anna say that before.
Wow that's amazing how quickly she can turn a game around, and with little time left. Very impressive.
This Battle of Generations is really Insane!
Pia and Anna talk so similarly especially 19:35 the way she said "i lost on time, okay yes"

I wouldn't mind a 15 minute game between these two.
losing on time and not beeing able to play the game out is such a dump rule.

Talking about the first game, the fact that they reached a totally new game at the 10th move, with Bxh6, for me is awesome. Untill then, 11 match between GMs have been played still and the most recent in august 2022
Fun fact: until 9th move they were following a game the GM Cramling played in 2014
