It’s not based on skill or popularity, otherwise all popular bands would have one. It’s based on how a player is doing something unique with it and only it and players want to replicate that particular style in their own song writing. Mascis and Moore etc with unique jazzmaster sounds helped push the sales of jazzmasters back onto the market. Royal Blood are average but unique and he’s already got a sig bass. Wolfe may be an average player but people were searching into her gear as it’s unique with her live performances with fuzz etc and she used only a Sheraton. It makes sense. Players that have a regular sound that any guitar player can get with any guitar with an eq pedal won’t get one as it’s not an individual sound. My take anyways
