45:13 - "You're not alone in thinking that"... but in _this_ room, you are *definitely* alone in thinking that. 😂 That was very diplomatic of you, Matt. I'm glad he got a chance to further explain his position, and correctly identify the e46. Thank you, Zack, for extracting that. Great show, Steve's always a treat. p.s. "I don't like meth. Do you like meth?" "I'm not a huge fan of meth, but it does work." 😂😂😂😂😂
The sheer amount of chassis dynamic knowledge to be gained by listening to Mr Dinan cannot be overstated. Knowledge that can really only be learned by millions spent testing and tuning. Fascinating I can't get enough! These always get me out in my garage looking under my hood wanting to make adjustments that aren't completely neccesary for a street car.
Awesome to hear that Steve tunes not in spite of the environment but in consideration of it! The backwards diesel community could learn a thing or two (And there are absolutely diesel tuners in Europe that will fit a test pipe or a valve)
agreed on current M cars … older ones had more spirit/soul, meaning, way more analog with a lot more road feel, I love that the company’s forward thinking yet sometimes true forwarding thinking involves acknowledging ones’ own roots and revisiting what made one great
Tune stacking is pretty much the same as the old way Greddy/Trust/HKS Japanese piggy back ECU's used to work... They would intercept signals from sensors and tell the ECU one thing but then overwrite information back to other parts from the engine. Been around since the 00's.
35:17 I think Steve is confusing RB with Renault, which had a mass damper in the nose of their cars during the 05/06 seasons, they won two championships, beating Ferrari and MSC.
Steve is likely correct on his thoughts on the new hybrids. Demand for just about every recently released hybrid model has been pretty poor. SF90, 296, Artura, C63, E-Ray, ect. People just don't seem to have any desire for these systems. I for one would be very hesitant about mid to long term ownership of the new M5 hybrid as BMW's prior Activehybrid lineup are all pretty much worthless now due to hybrid system failures and reliability issues.
1:01:07 I was giving someone a ride home from work and my Bluetooth automatically resumed this podcast when I started the car... "I don't like meth, do you like meth?" Luckily we are engineers, so it was relatively easy to explain lmao
US enthusiasts often forget OEMs are global. M5 has to be PHEV for EU and China regulations. If it was just the US, it wouldn't need to be a hybrid. If BMW was facing just US regulations it'd be a different story.
I've got the big tumors on my lips and inside my cheeks and all inside my mouth are premature tumors i hope that can get really better and well in future but its always difficult to chew and swallow. bleeding will happen often too. i cant help it and wen my ears click its like getting hindering dream bricks hitting in there. can you make it stop please.
The Ferrari 296 has a much longer electric range than the Artura. 15-17 miles of EV only. I hate hybrids as much as anyone …..so it’s super annoying that the 296 is so god damn amazing to drive because it ruins my whole argument. 😠 Seriously, that car is better driving than most every single Ferrari that the internet would have you believe is light years better
I see these complaints on almost every guest appearance and I really don't get it? It always plays out like a regular conversation and I have really never noticed any interruptions.
Hybrids and EVs are not heavy. They are under engineered. The same way you fit a data center from the 70s into a cell phone, we can lower the weight of battery cars. Every race car should have to deal with the extra weight to move this forward.
You’re forgetting the part about the weight of current battery tech. They’re not getting any lighter until sold state is available at commercial scale.
@@Bob_Smith19 Right. Move the tech forward, with racing. Like racing has done with tires, suspension and even weight on ICE cars. Get out of those struggling piles and get with the program!
I love it when you have this man on your show. He knows what he is talking about and is a true car enthusiast.
Last time was a great episode ... Definitely excited to get this one started
By far my favorite guest.
Hard for me to pick between James May, Matt's dad Roger, and Burkhard Bovensiepen
Steve is back. Steve keeps it real.

Steve is back and TST knows a good thing! Podcast is out early!
The past featurings have been some of my favorite episodes! Glad to see this freshie
Indubitably

Mr Farah asked great questions in the conversation about racing car setup and handling. Much appreciated
Steve Dinan is my hero. I don't know how many time I have rewatched the last 2 podcasts he has been on
🎉 early morning release! Great job Zack 👏
I've been waiting for this episode for what, 2 years now? My favorite guest by far and it isn't even close!
35:00 Mass damper was used by Renault F1 in 2005 and 2006. It was banned after 2006 french grand prix.
1st! Loved steve on the podcast even back from when you could hear bong rips in the background while he was speaking lmao.
can listen to Mr. dinan for hours. literally replayed this podcast twice. you guys need to bring Albert Biermann into the podcast!
Thanks for inviting this living Legend

Young Zack in the controulés

Does Carbahn still have the points system like Dinan had in order to get the badge?
S85 will never go out of fashion. If I had loads of cash and loads of storage I'd put a bunch of LCI S85's into safe storage

This guy is great. Love these Steve Dinan episodes!
Clicked as soon as l saw Steve was the guest. I share the same sentiment towards the M5 hybrid.

Zack with no sleep 😮. lol thanks man. 608TT up early for the pod
The guy really knows his cars! Such a great interview!
Steve is such an amazing guest
I see Steve Dinan and TST, I click immediately
good timing
Great conversation.
Totally agree that the M3/M4 aren't the most interesting cars to drive. Giulia QV is where it's at.
good timing! I'm having breakfast 👍

Very cool..just did a 24hr of lemons race and all this applies there too
Steve, dude, brother; please make some parts for my z3, I know Greg from Bimmersrus and he said it’s cool

Hey, Matt. Shut up and let him speak.

Like when you have Steve on but dude has a ego

Drive a Lotus Elan...
@@gnoxycat racing is there. Ever heard about Formula E? Battery in those is half the weight of a car itself.
