Me too! I, actually, thought it would be nothing more than a forgettable action movie, filled with car chases and explosion. I could not have been more wrong. it was about a love story full of style, class and beauty, like the video points out. unforgettable!
The cinematography and the soundtrack of this movie are simply beautiful. Great analysis showing us the way Refn evokes emotions and tells the story thru his directing.
Nice review. I love this film so much, i can watch it forever. Truly a masterpiece of film making. Every time i watch it i learn something new, it just keeps on giving.
I love the use of colors in this film after you pointed it out. Once aware, you start to notice little things. For example, in most of the scenes after they meet, the Driver is enveloped in blue, but you can see little hints of red around. Same with Irene, she is enveloped in red, but there are hints of blue around. A good example of this is the scene when they are in Irene's living room in 4:45. Could that be used to illustrate that they have formed a sort of attachment/bond with each other? Also, in 7:00, when the Driver enters the strip club, you can see him walking AWAY from the blue wall and INTO the all red dressing room, indicating perhaps that he has chosen to do good/ committed to protecting Irene? In that same scene though, he uses his hammer to beat the thug, who just happens to be one of the only figures in that room who is wearing blue. This could foreshadow that he has chosen to sever his ties and bond to Irene, where he destroys one of the only fragments of blue in the all-red room that could symbolize Irene. Or it could mean that he wants to destroy the blue (cold/dark) part of Irene that is holding her back. Just some raw thoughts I came up with after hearing your analysis. Hopefully it makes sense.
That is awesome and such an important perspective that you brought up. I do believe it makes sense. We must always remember that in great works of art everything is done with purpose and meaning. So, the camera movements, the lines of dialogue, the acting, the colors of the rooms and wardrobes, the lightning, the soundtrack, and so on... it all carries a meaning and works in favor of narrating, developing and moving the story and its characters forward. So the fact that both of them are also surrounded by each others predominant colors does symbolize a connection and an entrance into each others worlds. Also, in the particular scene of him beating up the guy in blue with a hammer, it could also symbolize him killing that cold/violent part of himself, he wants to destroy the monstrosity that lies within his own being, perhaps. Anyway, really appreciated your view.
Great movie, it's a shame refn only made terrible ones after Drive.......... congrats on the video, truly a lesson.....! you should make one explaining Scorsese or De Palma!!!!
A real human being is a real hero. The scorpion can't help itself therefore it stabs the frog. But scorpions can hold their breath for 2 days. The driver is a delusional guy thinking he's an action hero but you can clearly see his hands shake and in the motel room shootout scene and when he wears the mask of the hero when confronting Nino.
Bien sûr. Merci beaucoup pour vos commentaires. J'ai pensé à le faire depuis un certain temps, maintenant. Je vais essayer de le traduire dès que possible.
I remember not wanting to see this movie because of the god damned trailer that made us think it was just another dumb flick. They did the same thing with a recent movie: the assistant, starring Julia Garner. Why do they always try to make overly accessible trailers for obscure brainy films?
I remember watching this film just to catch up on the hype....Never expected it to be one of my favorite films of all time❤️

I have a hard time recommending this movie to most people but I freaking love it.
