so they say...im not liking this prologue's sound very much. Where's the jupiter 8? Honestly if they made a synth that was 88 keys and had 16 analog voices that was capable of both jupiter 8 and ob 8 sounds, good lord the things I would give for that
That costs a LOT of money, and the higher end analog synths made are already inaccessible as it is. Also people really don't use synths for the reasons they did back in the day... not that many people need a full size, 16 voice synthesizer. Most people use synths for mono/lead or simple chords.
This does show how great the prologue sounds… but when you’re in the same room playing it the vibrations come up from your feet and goes throughout your entire body, it’s fills the room in a way you feel like the walls could shake but it’s perfectly refined, yet not to the point where you still can’t get completely wild with it but still so smooth at the same time. Playing it is an experience in itself than just listening, man does it still sound so full and lush though.
I'm kind of new to synthesizers, and even tho this doesn't have a sequencer, I still think is the best option for me. There's no super complex menu diving like the Behringer's DeepMind series. Extremly complex for me. But here, its just like the Minilogue and Monologue, its all bout twisting knobs and saving presets, even includes a mini screen to see what happens to 'x' wave in your program as you twist the knobs. Personally, I think the price is a little bit too much, but I'm still getting it. The demo was amazing, its the type of sound I'm looking forward too in my own music. Tremendous work, Korg!
Fast forward two years later and I still haven't gotten this. It's expensive as hell.... I will get it though! I still think it's my best choice. Man those sounds....
Good to see they went with a white line on the knobs. I have the Monologue and I'm going to add an enamel stripe on them myself because it difficult to keep track on how they are set.
Oh my god I have been saving for the minilogue for a year and this comes out. I hope this starts being sold before February 20 because I have Got to get this for my birthday
I've been sooooo hoping Korg would come out with something like this. I love the sound and features of the mini/mono but it's too small and not enough keys. this is more like a real professional instrument and less like a toy. not sure if I need one in addition to having a REV2 though.
roberto campos it's hard to choose. I've wanted the Rev2 for months. Now the Prologue has me wondering if it's more suitable or should I stick to my original plan?
roberto campos it seems to me that if you want to play keys then the Prologue is very good. Looks like the Rev2 beats it in the sequencing and arpigiator department.
if this has the exact same oscillators and filter as the minilogue its not going to be as "versatile" as the rev2. The minilogue has a very distinct fizzy sort of tone, it can do "round" bassy tones but thats not its forte. That's why they put that low end comp on this thing I'm assuming. The Rev2 has a very round sound from what I can tell the one time I touched one. I think in the difference in construction quality alone the Rev2 is the right choice though.
Ok, I'm a Korg fanboy, but...why no built-in sequencer like on the minilogue and monologue?! The sequencer with the motion sequencing was such a cool feature on the "-logue" line. I guess they couldn't jam that feature into this synth...
There's a lot that I like about the Prologue so, I'm NOT hating on it since I'm a big fan of KORG synths and I might actually buy it (or the Rev2-16), BUT -- when I heard the words "Ultimate performance analogue synthesizer" I laughed. There is no motion sequencer, only 1 LFO, only 6 arpeggiator types (my Deepmind 12 has 10 arpeggiator types plus a pattern editor for more variability), and no polyphonic after-touch. You can't claim that it's the 'ultimate performance -- anything' when it's lacking many of the basic features found on synths half the price.
That alone was their best feature! Turned the volca’s into Gold. If you have a daw you could record the midi cc and get it that way I guess. But maybe that can be added via a firmware update. Or maybe it’s to heavy on the internal CPU to process it.
Yeah Aftertouch would have been nice, but the missing sequencer is a real shame... Also the tuning issues are pretty severe :/ I still love mine even though it has a few flaws
My complaint with the mini and monologues were that they have no distinct color like say an Access Virus or Moog has. Well, I guess they do but it doesn't really appeal to my tastes. I had a few Korgs over the years and they just didn't do it for me. That said this is a good looking synth! Just not for me.
This may be REAL nitpicky, but I’m a little disappointed that the third oscillator screen isn’t the same resolution as the main readout screen lol I feel like, once people get doing complex wavetable stuff in the open-source platform, that could’ve been handy 🤷🏼♂️
It's super beautiful. But I don't get only having 1 LFO, no modmatrix, no motion sequencer. Shouldn't the bigbrother in this series have been a soundsculpturing monster? To me the soundshaping abilities seem ... well, stripped down to say the least. And why have on board DSP-effects? Is it the Deep Mind-virus striking? Also they made the same mistake as they did on the King Korg in having an arp instead of a prgrammable seq. A huge miss. It's a lot of money for a very simple sounding synth.
@@patrickmeyer556 Look closely at that meter starting @3:35. The Gain knob is being tweaked but the needle on the meter never moves. Either this was an early prototype on which the VU meter wasn't yet functional, or perhaps it was defective?

Like the other guy said, it's the mod and the verb that fill it out so much. The unison modes between the Prologue and the Rev2 are pretty similar for stuff like this. Given the slop on the Rev2 it can actually go dirtier, but it gets a little atonal at that point.
I want that black and brown wood finish baby! Also not a big fan of the shape of the minilogue, so I hope they'll redesign the "logue" line to match the Prologue looks.
Has anyone noticed a buzzing sound coming from the prologue 8 when plugged into an interface? I sent one back because of this, just received the new one and the same thing is happening.
One of the 'darkest' most sad beautiful sound synths ever made . Good for industrial and dark techno also:)
This thing sounds so eighties with the built-in FM oscillator. I think I'm in love.
You don’t see this synth very often, it’s super underrated.
I'll never sell mine if I can help it. And I can't wait for this synth to have it's glory moment in like 10-20 years time LOL
@@itspat87 right lol
That’s why I love it even more
The Prologue is a bigger version of the Minilogue, but the Minilogue has so much more praise

This is the second synth golden age, welcome humans.
Weird Music I was going to say these synth companies haven't had this kind of competition in decades
I’d argue that it’s really just Korg, DSI, Arturia, and behringer.

First thing in years that makes me want to purchase something Korg.
These guys at Korg seem to know exactly what they're doing. Brings a smile to my face... Congrats! :)
I thought at the 1:00 mark it was totally gonna start playing Separate Ways by Journey.

It’s like a royalty free version of that song
I'm not too sure that making it sound like a DX7 was a good idea.
The Prologue has a third oscillator that can do basic FM sounds.
Same!!
I didn't care until he mentioned oscillator panning - then I got interested. Very nice.
The mad men!! They did it.
