      Ehh, not exactly. When selling to other collectors, yeah, the value will be more, but to a coin shop, you will get lowballed in most cases.

      Selling to a dealer you'll get the same but selling on ebay or to a stacker you'll lose part of the premium if damaged. Right now Silver eagles have a 9-10 dollar premium. If scratched could take $3-5 off the premium. That being said normally the premiums aren't this insane.

    • @delav83
      @delav83 2 года назад +3

      Dealers and shops will give you at least $1 more if you resale. If I'm at a shop and it has 10 silver maples. I buy what is shiny and leave the rest. I'm sure most don't care but I'm also sure that there are others like me. That makes my nice coins more liquid also. In the end, capsules pay for themselves.

    me as a beginner, the extra space around the fitted capsules are obviously to allow them to be stacked with others in a tube, others which might have less or more space, but all have the same outside diameter.
    Airtite is nothing unless you let the air out and replace it with nitrogen or something. Those capsules are not even pressure tite, otherwise you could not close or open them because that needs a soft fit. So ambient air pressure and temperature changes will allow air getting out and new humid air coming in. So I keep my capsules in a temperature stable place

    If you buy the kind of coins that I buy, capsules are a must, no black rings for me, direct fit looks better and can see the edges which is important imho. I’ve kept track of every capsule purchase that I make and add it to a spreadsheet and I refer to it as encapsulation & protection totals, that would include a safe as far as I’m concerned. Anyway, keeping your rare coins in capsules or in original mint packaging is very important.

    • @EmpirePreciousMetals

  • @Rob_Fordd
    @Rob_Fordd 3 года назад +3

    One of the best ways to optimize it is by just taking the coins out of the capsules and putting them in flips when you go to sell at a coin/pawn shop, to an online dealer, etc... and saving the capsules for other coins later. Of course them being in a capsules can be a boon if you are selling on ebay. Also buy capsules and such on bulk sites like onfireguy, not on the bullion sites. You can get airtites, even the foam ring ones for a FRACTION of the price buying 10+ at a time.

    In my opinion you should take care of all of your investment. I like how you put them in their own capsules. Eagles will sell for more than silver content the older they get and certain years. Especially when it’s 60-80 years from now. You will thank yourself for doing that. Even 1oz rounds I protect. When you go to sell them it will be easier when they look nice. At bare minimum I think they should go into tubes. If they sit and don’t get moved around they will be good. I hate when people have a bag of “junk” silver and throw it around. The difference between a MS66 to a MS65 can mean thousands with some coins.

    I agree with your assessment. The only coins that I think are worth putting in capsules are semi-numismatic silver and .999 gold. Everything else is not worth it. For silver it's like paying $1 more per coin. Tubes are perfectly fine. Unless you handle the coins every day, the scratches they accumulate will be minimal, not enough to effect the value when selling.

    I have recently switched from putting all my silver eagles in flips, sticking the flips in envelopes into my safe, to now I just put them in mint tubes. It saves space and it's a lot cheaper. At $1 to $2 per capsule that's $20 to $40 per tube of Silver Eagles. If you go crazy and capsulize an entire Monster Box that's $500 to $1,000 right there. That's a quarter ounce to a half ounce of gold for free you could get. So yeah it's all about dollar cost average; spending as little as possible on your precious metals, and stack. Thanks Stormy for the video Merry Christmas to you sir happy New Year and looking forward to your new videos in 2021

      @@EmpirePreciousMetals Obviously not a lot of choices on how to store. What I was questioning was a little more about what warrants a certain level of storage. That is definitely a personal preference. But it seems the value (gold, platinum, palladium, etc) or the premium you pay for the bullion you’re buying should play a big part on how you store your wealth and the price you pay for that storage. But again what is valuable to one person might be different to another.

    The individual coin capsules are a total waste of money IMO. When it comes time to actually melt everything and sell Silver in mass, the scratches, milk spots, and toning will not matter. So $1 wasted per capsule turns out to be 1/25th-1/30th of an ounce of Silver you missed out on. When Silver is $1,000 per ounce, your $1 per coin will have really cost you $40 each. My advice stack Silver high. Silver will be on the Moon Soon!!!

    I agree. I have some superhero coins in capsule. My American eagle are all in Littleton Coin Albums even the proofs that we're not in slabs . I wear gloves you can take the pages out of the binder slid the Mylar pop the coin in nice and gently and put the page back in the binder plus it's easy to steal a coin in a slab or a capsule but stealing a Album is tricky ( my friend showed slabs to two friends left the room trusting his friends. But another person was with his friends two capsules and 3 slabs came up missing. Because he had so many he didn't notice right away. His best friend who also collects put the coins back in the safe he didn't notice they were missing. If they are in a book with slider it is hard to take it out first then pocket the coin and slid the Mylar back so it's not suspicious plus the mylar Sometimes It's tricky because it'll get caught or makes a little bit of noise and people next to you are going to hear it and see what you're doing. One last thing I make a list of coins in the album ( have a paper first binder page so you know what is in it.I trust two people they have seen my silver but no one else lol. No one sees my gold hell no. To many addicts if they hear you have coins and know where u live not gonna be good combination! Lol.

    I only buy circulated silver eagles from local sources. I’m not interested in super special minty collector coins. Just weight. Silver eagles are real american money. I believe silver is meant to be traded, bought, sold. It’s a tool. I like an eagle that’s seen a bit of action, to be honest. At the right price of course. The closer the silver eagle sells to weight value, the better for me. It’s real money in my eyes, not a collectors piece. You can tell the mint may feel the same way because those plastic rolls of silver eagles that are right up against each other vulnerable to scratches, etc. coins are spent and used. It’s money!

    I totally disagree...if you're gonna pay good money for a fancy silver coin like an American Silver Eagle or Canadian Silver Maple Leaf then you SHOULD get the best condition one you can and have it in a capsule so it doesn't get all 'printed and scratched and whatnot!
    And how are the above coins not "numismatic"? Don't people like myself like to try to collect all the years they can...or at least the years of key moments of their life like birth year, graduation, marriage, and whatnot?

    With the stupid premium ASEs carry, I would rather have them in capsules to protect the premium resell value. If I am holding until $50+ per oz, an extra 60 cents per coin to protect it isn't a big deal.

      @EmpirePreciousMetals  3 года назад

    American silver eagles are the most babied bullion there is. I don't think its a waste to encapsulate an ASE considering how huge of a deal people make when they are scratched. Hell, I have 100oz and kilo bars of silver that I know have lost a little value because of a small ding or scratch and if a kilo scottsdale isn't bullion then what is???
