Southside Stacker has a story about an older woman asking for help at LCS to carry items in for sale. She had multiple heavy black bricks she used as door stoppers. They were solid silver! 😮😮😮😮
Great video series not only for new stackers. The only silver I touch with my bare hands is junk silver. I put my bullion and junk silver coins in Tubes and the higher premium coins in capsules.
Not only split your stack but put a small amount in a easy to find safe and the majority in a well hidden one. If a thief finds the first safe it's doubtful they will look for another.
@Roy Stroble Hey...got those in a plastic tube. Just me, but I buy those Academy bullet cans that keep air out and throw in a few oxygen absorbers. I never plan to sell it. Just keeping it in best shape for the kids.
I removed a piece of trim from the interior of a closet, then hid my stash in there. The trim pretty much fit without nails and can be removed at any time. So its in my wall, but accesible.
Safes are always a good idea as a deterrent. You can get cheap small safes & screw them down (in multiple hidden locations) if you live in an apartment...might not stop a thief, but will slow them down, since time is the factor for them getting in/out!👍🏻🙂
All things considered, (yes ALL) a bank's vault (with a Safety Deposit Box located therein) is the best place to store high cost valuables. Seasoned thieves know all about tricky home hiding places (not to mention those so called "dummy" safes). One could purchase an adequate home safe . . . but, wait until you discover what a relatively small TL-15 or TL- 30 safe costs. Do review on the Internet (together with RUclips videos) what reputable safe sellers will tell you concerning how quickly a knowledgeable, prepared burglar can often open an average priced (not the cheapest) home safe in just a matter of minutes . . . using a simple crowbar and a battery powered drill. By the way, many lesser equipped safes are attacked through their sides (not through their heavily constructed doors).
So long as they are heavy. I have known idiots who thought a stainless steel chain would stop thieves. He lost the safe, as well as its contents (I think they also damaged his house removing the chain).

What about the plastic coated coin tongs? Was digging a pond for my farm animals when I was about 4 yrs old & the big spoon kept digging out coins someone had buried in an old glass jar that was busted! I use to keep my collection in zipped bank bags up until they were stolen. After this when I saved bills I hid them in wild places. Under doilies in my cabinets, inside a metal base on a small table, and many times I opened a teddy bear & poked 100's inside & sewed back up , in backs of framed pictures I'd freshly put new backing on, slit in mattress, zipped pillow covers & attached under drawers, etc. But, after time passes I'd totally forget about it until something would jog my memory. I lost the bills in the metal base table when we sold the cabin furnished & only later did I remember my stash! I gave the teddy bear to a nephew & years later remembered the stash but my sister had thrown the bear away. One small stash & a gold necklace was lost when I sold the mattresses & bed as I had yet again forgotten. So it doesn't always pay to hide $$$'s in wild places...especially when one is forgetful like me. Now one time in an old 1800's log cabin I lived in, I kept losing money off my stand. Later on I found a nest made of straw & shredded money & inside was a few coins & my ring. I'd guess a mouse but might have been a pack rat!! But, I learned not to leave money & jewelry out in the open. 🤣🤣

The dealer gave me a tube for my new Maple Leafs. The first time I used it my Maples got all scratched up. It's crazy these stackers are okay with this. Maybe I'll try putting the tube over the stack of coins instead of dropping them in.
