I didn't know.
I was aware of his health issue, and his financial situation as of a few years ago...and would periodically think of him.
I was hoping the Industry would help him...but I didn't have much faith that they would.
He was a huge inspiration to me...and equally Herbie Mann.
I saw them both...over, and over in the late 80s, and ealy 90s at the Blue Note, and the Villiage Gate.
I was the young guy up in front inches away.
dave you always spoke i heard you from your first album you taught me to play my oldest brother was born in 52 like you my middle brother in 53 he joined you last thursday night thanks for giving me solace you have been in my heart for so long thru many joys and now thru much pain you always spoke and you speak still
