I love it when kids' games aren't afraid to go dark. This game went VERY dark with it's themes. Even as an adult, I was pretty surprised at some of the stuff they were allowed to get away with, especially in this level.
Yeah, unlike movies and especially television, video games weren't scrutinized too heavily when it came to content. However, the media started pressing the games industry into lightening things up. They were hammering really hard that violent video games were making kids violent as a consequence of playing. Now, if a game has even remotely any mature themes or violence, it becomes T-rated. Kids games in recent memory are usually devoid of any kind of bite. I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but it is definitely weird looking back on the way things were in the 90's and early 2000's.
The swamp was the most scariest and threatening level. Voodoo, giant spiders, giant mosquitos to suck your blood out and much worse. The early 2000s games like Harry Potter, Spider Man and this game really shaped us kids up to having more manly power to progress through these terrifying and dark themes. I still remembered how when I first died to a mosquito, it was like a resident evil game where I didn't replay in weeks because of how horrifying it was to see Sly just die from blood loss.
@@RatchetandSly lol yeah. Like Spiderman on the PS1 was rated E and in the first mission a police helicopter gets shot down. Not to mention how freaky the scenes with Venom are.

Yeah the imagination goes wild whenever you stare the layer from the far away but for some reason it brings a really nostalgic and actually I don't know how to explain it to be honest with you if you know you know I guess
Maximilian 0 Zero I dont know how but that made perfect sense to me lol, its like when you see it your brain is taking a trip back to a much younger state and remembering what it was like to be just a kid again. its a really comforting and nostalgic feeling that is so specific and hard to pin down what exactly it is, and anymore its a feeling that I get only once in a blue moon
God, the things I'd do to go back to early 2000s when PS2 was literally the shit. Hands down the best system, at least to my extent. I play and beat this game once a year, only because its nice to revist one of my favorite games without having it feel old or boring. This game was just awesome; the soundtrack, storyline, humor, gameplay. Nostalgia kicks in so hard.
It does feel that way doesn't it? There must have been some console wars at the time, though even I don't really remember any. What a great time. PS2, GameCube, Xbox and I guess Dreamcast. I think this is when 3D games really hit the nail on the head all-around. Ratchet and Clank was a marvelous series, Sly Cooper was as well. The Rayman games were still relevant somewhat, and Mario was better than ever. Kingdom Hearts spawned new fandoms and for shooter fans there was Black, Area 51, Halo, Serious Sam, Half-Life 2, Darkwatch, Killzone and who could forget the wonderful TimeSplitters series? 3D Sonic games weren't amazing but they were still pretty fun, and the Harvest Moon series really shined at the time. If anything I guess this was the era where Crash Bandicoot and Spyro kinda toned down. ...I can't think of too many memorable games from the PS3/XB360 generation (or this one for that matter). I guess I liked Viva Pinata, Earth Defense Force games, Left 4 Dead, continuation of Halo titles, Uncharted was a really good series I'll admit. Assassin's Creed II was decent. And uh... replaying old PS2 classics in HD... ..........but hey back on point here at least we got a new Sly Cooper game unlike Jak and Daxter!
With how life is never guaranteed and how America has changed drastically since 2004 before my 10th birthday to today before I turn 28, this song is a great reminder to refocus on how to harness light against the darkness
It's just one of those soundtracks that makes you...I don't know. It gives you THAT feeling...that unexplainable, kinda eery yet relaxing feeling. It's so hard to explain...
This level remains striking. It influenced me deeply, I think - I remember being utterly petrified of this level as an extremely young child, requiring the volume to be turned down on the television. To me, this soundtrack exuded primal evil. Now, it has an almost ritual calmness to it, shadowed by ever-present nostalgia. One of my favourite games ever. I simply adore it - and I have spent who knows how many hours being serenaded by this track in particular. The hours I used to spend exploring or standing around this hub... very precious.
First time I played this game I was 17. The soundtrack felt very atmospheric and cool, but I really wonder what it would have felt like to play this as a kid.
I remember 5 year old me playing this game for the first time, and being scared to DEATH of this song. Now that I'm older, it gives me the chills in the coolest way XD
Out of all the music in my childhood this has stood out to me my entire life. When I listen to this I immediately go back to the days I would play this in my room.
I never played Sly Cooper until last year, once I finally put my hand on the HD remaster on PS3 (I never had any sony console as a kid), and man for a game this old, it holds up so perfectly even today, I wish I could have it when I was little, i'm sure I would have adore this game. At the beggining everything was already perfect but MAN, when I heard this theme for the first time, I knew i would remember it for the rest of my life. Even though I've never played this game as a kid, I can already feel a sense of nostalgia listening to this. Really great fuckin' game.
Those weird groaning sounds in the background make me think of zombies or petrified bodies in the under growth that are just clinging to life and calling out for help.
I never felt so freaked out to play an area in a game before , I literally refused to play this area for a year. I replayed all of Mug shots turf that whole time.
Memories...I remember this song from Ms Ruby...the music mixed with feeling knowing you have no lucky charms left so one mistake or hit and its over.....
I mean it's an illegal voodoo operation complete with zombie chicken slaughter houses, a gigantic Loch Ness Monster guarding the facility and mosquito enemies that can kill you instantly. Scared the shit out of me as a kid.
I heard a random cello chord in a song earlier today that sounded soo familiar. I racked my memory for like 10 minutes and finally recalled sly cooper and the swamp zone. I've now found it. The swamp was always one of my favorite parts.
This theme is really eerie. There is something, something about this theme that makes me think that there is some unknown entity watching me the entire time I'm playing through this level. Mrs. Ruby may be one of the world authorities on voodoo, but not even the most skilled voodoo masters can hope to control the true nature of this dark art.
When I was a kid, this area really stood out to me. It was scary but incredibly rewarding to finish. Especially the boss fight. It's such a great game. It's a fantastic example of what only minor progressions can do, sometimes the simple movements can do so much.
