I don't think China is bothered about your so called new spice route. It's really amusing to see and hear all this emphasis and comments regarding China's reaction to India's new status as "world superpower" soon to be 3rd largest economy etc etc n everything great and superfluous in India. This new corridor is a non starter and will be buried in rhetoric soon. Every country involved doesn't even have a credible high speed rail in their own countries, much less the capability to build across so many nations except Germany. It's really laughable.. By the way who is going to pay for it? US with new printed dollars? India with its rupees? Europe which is soon going to the poor house? The rich Arabs??? Arabs are the shrewdest business people around n they would be more careful with their spending beyond political summit rhetoric. MOUs don't mean much and can be scrapped in an instant without consequences. It's just political expedient rhetoric. No need to read too much into it and go on and on spinning as if it's a done deal to spend hundreds of billions to transport spices and onions to the developed but soon to be poor nations or luxury cars to a market where d population can't afford to buy anyway.
By the way, the agenda of getting the African Union into G20 was first initiated during the BRICS summit and it was China who proposed this. However as long as it is achieved it is immaterial who claims the credit. China doesn't even bother to mention it. Blowing the trumpet is not China's style or need obviously. As long as suggestion is accepted n success is achieved, it is a very good thing for d host country India

Just to add to the port infra in the west, down south we have Vizhinjam port of Adani coming up which can serve the Indian Ocean region better from the middle east. India have enough options now.

The dedicated frieght corridor passes through this area and the rail link to this Vadhavan port will do wonders for the manufacturing in hinterland India.

    1. Let us talk straight - China missed a big opportunity of having Surat or some other port on India's western coast and link it by road by via Nepal to Tibet. This would have been the cheapest project, provided China settled border dispute once for all. Under UPA, it had the best of times, having bought out the Congress Party.. But it missed this opportunity badly. In fact, had it gone through, China would have by now controlled over half of the Indian Economy in the spirit of Hindi Chini Bahi Bhai!! But Xi wanted Galwan and he did not countenance Modi, the 56 inches hero and the capable Indian Armed Forces! 2. Now, with this new project, Modi-Doval made Gwadar and CPEC redundant and cost ineffective. It is the minimal distance from India to Europe and through well settled countries. It will bring massive economies of scale for transportation. It will also de-risk Red Sea -Suez Canal route, if not redundant. 3. By 2047, Shekhar will note to remember this much hated man, Modi for his enormous strategic vision and as an architect of 21st century India. Of course, Shekhar can continue to remember Panditji too!! After all who can forget him for his monumental strategic mistakes !! 4. Chabhar port is a multinational project much older than Gwadar and was not initiated to compete with China. It is still useful for India for transportation mainly to Central Asia.

The route is chosen because it was only way to surpass less desirable countries or routes and it is cheaper than direct sea routes. It would have be more cheaper if direct rail link was possibility but it is not convenient in current geopolitical scenarios. Just think logically why India is part of it they can start it from Saudi Arabia for much convenience? There are many reason
1 Indian workforce and technicians and cheap labour will be used to create railway line and manage the routes in Middle East.
2 Indian companies and workforce mange ports like haifa in Israel.
      3. India is one the largest market

For example , Europe - China railways have several routes and have been in operation for years. China BRI is driving for building ports ,railway in Africa , South East Asia, South America. Even if India lacks technology then also other countries in this project will help India and do technology transfer. If India have technology to lend on moon then they can also make railway infrastructure with other partners help. This project is for Europe, middle eastern countries and India to provide an alternative route. Perspective of china is irrelevant perspective of countries who are involved in project matters most. A little strange infrastructure. Why would goods from India destined to Germany disembark in UAE, then a train or road way to Israel, then again disembark to be loaded in a ship to Greece, and then again disembark and loaded finally to roads and rails.
    It doesn't makes any sense.

If people want to invest in these ports and railways, great for them. However, unless the Suez Canal is going to be significantly constrained in some way, wouldn't it be easier just to keep the items on ships? That way you don't have to load a ship in Europe or India, unload at one end of the Middle East, load onto rail, then unload from rail at the other end of the Middle East and put the goods back on ships, then unload ships at the final destination. The alternative using the Suez Canal is just load in India or Europe and unload at the other end. Maybe I am misunderstanding the context, but this doesn't seem to be a big improvement in transportation speed or efficiency.

My understanding is, this is not an India to Europe transport route. It serves the interests of all countries involved. They plan to lay power cable from india to Saudi. May be oil pipelines too. There was a talk about a water pipe from India to Middle East.

@@RamasArrow its cheaper for middle east to desalinate water than pump them all the way from India. India itself is under draught so I'm not sure where they are going to get excess water to export.

10years ??? Mostly it’s water route . Infra in india is already going in fast phase . If you see map one more time on land except uae there is very less land route . I would say 40% route already exist . Iam sure Arabs will take this serious bcoz they are the one who proposed . And they have money . I don’t see any blockers . If u see the map one more time except uae railways there is no much work to do. This is unlike BRI. BRI is mostly on land so lot of capital . Money from India is only our infra . Our infra is anyway going in fast phase .

A lot of glorification, but the speaker did not describe the project itself. Thus, there is some "clutter" to be cleared. Piereos port is managed by Chinese company. It is easy to imagine ships moving from European ports to Haifa and from Dubai to Mumbai. Would a railway line be constructed from Haifa to Dubai? Is that the whole "corridore"?

How much try hard to keep BRI alive; the serious point is that the Chinese BRI has died peacefully after the G20 agreement. Basically it will extend to Africa and uproot any Chinese influence. After CCP virus, Europe will not allow the Chinese money on their doorstep. So RIP BRI. Even CPEC has died peacefully thankfully for handsome PM
